  • During the heat of the summer fish will often feed at night. Shrimp and other bait fish stack around lighted areas creating a saturated zone for feeding predator fish. In this episode we cast translucent colored lures in and around dock lights to catch limits of redfish and speckled trout.

    You're making great content. Kayaks are sure making trips like this less of a pain than launching/loading full-size boats. And you're a lot less likely to attract the attention of the Karens who want to tell you you can' fish in their water. 😁
    Hot water can't hold as much oxygen as cool water. We're entering those months when O2 in the water becomes a factor in selecting spots - or time of day. I do a lot of my fishing at night during high summer, and a lot of that without any sort of light.
    Here's something you can look into. Not only does warm water hold less oxygen, but trout in particular require more oxygen when the water is warmer. So they need more oxygen, and less is available. If my memory serves, a trout's metabolism uses something like 4X as much oxygen in 75 degree water than it does in 40 degree water. Also keep in mind that plants produce oxygen during daylight hours, but at night they actually consume oxygen and release carbon dioxide.

      Appreciate the kind comments. Youre spot on with the water temps and limited O2 in back lakes. There are some nights I throw top waters over grass flats with no lights like you mention and slay trout and reds, but those are just for me. Go Pro cant function without proper lighting.

      @@Jacemang_Outdoors Oh, hey, I wasn't saying anything like that. Maybe I should have stopped with "You're making great content". I was really kind of admiring the fact that you were up at some ridiculous hour when the water was cooler, and not attracting attention in a kayak. Even four strokes make noise. (You were sort of keeping your voice volume down, weren't you?) You've got a lot of years to stay that mad at 'em. I never thought I would say it, but it gets harder to roll all night further down the road. When I learned about trout metabolism rising that much in warm water, it was sort of an eye-opener for me and I thought I would pass it on.

    It doesn't take much skill to catch fish on green lights at night. Placing your cast, matching what their feeding on, that's it

    • @Jacemang_Outdoors
      @Jacemang_Outdoors  Před 9 dny +1

      Umm? The intent of the video wasnt to showcase "skill", plenty of competitive angling accolades on the wall to reflect those accomplishments. Its fun just to get a tight light and share those experiences with others. Thanks for watching.
