  • This video I'll detail my monthly spending, as I've lived in Pattaya, Thailand for 3 months now. The cost of living in Thailand will fluctuate depending on so many factors which I will dive into, such as:
    Accommodation In Thailand, Laundry & Misc, Food in Thailand, Visas in Thailand, Phone & Internet, Gym membership, Entertainment & Nightlife in Thailand, Transport, and Tipping.
    If you're trying to budget and planning on moving to Thailand, you'll want to make sure the points I cover, you've taken into consideration. Is $1000 a month still possible to live off in Thailand? The short answer is yes, but at some cut backs which I cover.

    Video corrections:
    - Tipping is not the "Norm" in Thailand, I worded this wrong, it's most in tourist areas and for specific things such as restaurants, taxis, drinks etc.
    - Travel insurance! I purchased mine in bulk before I come, but it is something you need to factor in when coming here.

    You don't need to tip if you don't want to brother. Tipping is more of an American thing. If you like to tip then keep on keeping but it's not expected in Thailand.

    Sorry not sure who told you to tip but it is not a think across Thailand. It may be in Pattaya at Girl Bar but the rest of Thailand is not like that. Yes you can leave a little extra bit it is not expected.

      I'm Thai,Tipping isn't a rule, but it's an act of kindness if you like the person who served you well. It's about giving money to the person you want them to not share, such as a masseuse or a waiter. Tipping is up to you. I'm Thai. I go for a massage. If the massage is good, I give it. If it's bad, I don't give it. ,Restaurant waiters who come and provide good service, give it. For them, it is considered an encouragement in service work.

    Great info and advice. Regarding visa, just saying "education visa" answers a lot. It's a great way to avoid a lot of visa hassles while also (forcing yourself to) learning the language. Or of course there's the self defense (edu) visa, which is fascinating and interesting.

    This is a decent lifestyle. I'm kind of stunned by the comments below where people say that you spend way too much or they can live cheaper than that. Some can. But the important part is that if people choose to retire in Thailand they are required to prove an income roughly 50% *HIGHER* than your budget. Properly done you can live nicely in Thailand on the retirement minimum.

    • @TravelGlitch
      @TravelGlitch  Před 7 měsíci +1

Whar made you choose that scool and what are your experiences so far? what do you recommend - using an agent or do all on your own? pros and cons 😊

      I won't be doing a video specifically on any visas purely because it'll be swamped with questions that I'll probably get wrong 😅 with my ED I study online, although can in person, I just chose the cheapest one around as I didn't have the budget for some of the schools with more teaching hours. There is so many teaching schools, takes a quick Google and that's what I did, I didn't use any visa agents, just visited the schools personally and enquired

    I’m living in luxury studio in Bkk with a Thai girlfriend. I spend about $1500 month. Few hundred of that is to help support the GF because their wage is like you said 400-500 baht a day.
    I had EDU visa but now tourist visa. But you can only boarder run so much. I got pulled out immigration last time but they let me slide because I stay out of the country min. 30 days. So 2 months in Thailand, 1 month out. I don’t do much nightlife, only when friends come in. Had a motorbike accident so no more of that.
    My friend got Elite visa before price doubled. Another friend boarder runs been here 1.5 years. Don’t know.

      I feel like you also have to be realistic though that it can be a lot harder for a foreigner who clearly looks like a foreigner to get the market rate for housing. A lot of people are going to see you're a foreigner and quote a higher price than they would for a Thai because they are hoping you won't know the local rates or be as willing to haggle with the language barrier + how cheap it is compared to housing in your home country. Often the best way to get the actual market rate is to bring a Thai friend along who can help argue down the "foreigner upcharge."

    i feel like you are overspending by A LOT. Being a young guy and having achieved some sort of financial independence and a clear vision, i am very happy and proud for you. On the other hand, if i was in your place, i would be renting something less expensive and luxurious and in general spending less (gym membership is ok, cause you're an expert here and its related to your work). I believe that a young guy needs to also look forward and think about the future (like saving some money or investing) instead of spending some of that money on rent (do you really need a pool XD??/did you have one in your home country). Living in another country like its a continuous holiday/vacation is fun, but reckless :) Its just my two cents and directly related to my frugal nature. Having said that, i am coming to Thailand for the first time this January for 30 days and god will be my judge :D

    • @TravelGlitch
      @TravelGlitch  Před 7 měsíci

      I respect the opinion! Although downgrading from a 11k baht apartment to even 8k is a big negative jump, but possible. I save in some areas so I can be comfortable in others 😁 my spending could be less but my income if projected to increase overtime, so big savings and future plans will be more set in stone in time.

    The main question is: Is it legal? Thailand has very strict rules and requires a work permit for most activities. It is a huge difference if you are a digital nomad and travel for 1-3 months to Thailand and work remotely from there or if you stay there for on an ED VIsa to study. Also you have to pay your taxes in Thailand iff you stay more than 180 days. You should be careful, getting in trouble with Thai authorities is properly not the best idea.

    • @leigh7507
      @leigh7507 Před 8 měsíci

      Working online while being on a student visa is not legal but almost impossible to enforce. Look into digital nomads. Most of them are on the old tax dodge, and I actually dont blame them. Its actually easier to do if you hop from country to country every 2 or 3 months.
