    It's telling from the comments the love and high regard Steve Marriott has still got. I saw him in '84 at Portsmouth Guildhall half full with old fans and mods, he got everyone down front and was excellent, sadly missed.

      I saw him in ‘88 in a his pub band across the road from the Oval. Wearing dungarees, a voice that belied his small stature. Humble [sic] as. A rare privilege for me, not least because of his untimely tragic death. Only the good die young. The original Ar’ful Dodger’, inn’t. Even makes receding hairline look cool. Also saw Paul Jones with his The Blues Band in some outta the way dancehall few months before. Saw Bob Geldof with Boomtown Rats in Wellington (old) Town Hall in early eighties. This is one helluva nostalgia trip down memory lane for me. By the way, I want to have PP’s babies. … and I never knew PP was an Ikette. Huge pipes that Tina. Best stuff she ever sung was with Ike.

      As much as I loved Steve there was a certain karma to his lack of success. He dumped on his mates Kenny, Ronnie and Mac after Ogden's Nut ect. The SF'S could have been huge after that album, but Steve chose to split the band and none of them had the success they could have had if they had stuck together.

      @@RicTic66 No they weren't making any money for starters, (thanks to the mismanagement of their finances by D. Arsehole Arden) and he wanted a more raw blues sound. The others didn't want to change much. So he moved on to Humble Pie. When Rod came in their hits were few and more pop /soft rock but then Rod used them as backing for his career soaring solo efforts. Their biggest success was with Paul's _Maybe I'm Amazed_ so they lucked out in a percentage of the royalties on that one. It's such a shame that Ronnie Wood didn't team up with Steve in the Small Faces because he is a brilliant blues guitarist.

      I recently read somewhere an interview with Jerry Shirley. He says that the day of BandAid, Their band "Packet of Three" was in a hotel somewhere in Europe watching the show on TV. He said Steve wasn't upset at not being there and that they all agreed to donate the evenings earnings to the BandAid charity. People always say "poor Steve", playing in pubs and small venues, but from what I've read,
      he was quite happy. Steve never was interested in being a big star, just wanted to keep playing the music and entertaining the people. Bless him...

      @antster1983 Před rokem

      Oh he certainly knew about Mike Read pulling "Relax" off air (prior to the BBC deciding to ban it anyway), the notoriety of it sent it up to number one.
      Mike said in _Smash Hits_ (having been voted 6th Biggest Prat of the Year by their readers in their annual Winners' Poll due to the whole farrago) that he got on well with the band but he wouldn't play "Relax" on his shows (on radio, or _Pop Quiz_ and _Saturday Superstore_ on television) because they were all aimed at family audiences. However, Mike did play "Two Tribes" and "The Power of Love" on his radio show (and "Two Tribes" was featured in a question in the previous series of _Pop Quiz),_ and the band certainly never held a grudge otherwise Holly wouldn't have agreed to appear on the show (same also applies to Holly's bandmate Nasher in the Christmas edition).
