  • As part of its largest upgrade since opening in 1973, the Sydney Opera House is improving acoustics in the world-famous Concert Hall. In planning for renewal, acoustic reflectors and drapes were put to the test with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra on stage and guest violinist Pinchas Zuckerman.
Sydney Opera House Renewal works proudly funded by the NSW Government.

What an amazing idea! That's so wonderful to see the acoustic improvements. It's funny how many great halls were built with architecture in mind more than what it would be used for and how the acoustics need to perform.

Since deflectors are 'staggered' formation certain positions will have more early reflections than others?

Are they taking into consideration all the heads and bodies that will be in the seats?

What's the lovely piece being played in the background?

It is the opening of Mendelssohn's Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20. One of my all-time favourite pieces!
