It was a good video for about two minutes; then it turned into a bizarre, stories-of-this-guy's-old friends, "Oh look at me, I make myself laugh", thing. - Simon Whistler recommended this trash, and I don't see why. This is about 20% "fact", and 80% really cringey attempt at comedy. - Glad you can laugh at yourself, nitwit, nobody else is.
I also found this channel through Simon Whistler, and I love it. Different take on the fact videos, more of a fact with cometary, which I really enjoy.

How do you like a comment more than once lol : )
As an American, my favorite stereotype is when a Russian man once said. "Heey.. you American? Cowboy bang bang!" And he busted out with the finger guns. Had me dying
Hilarious, but a few decades late.
I hate to break the news to you, but that guy was threatening you.
Omae wa moe shinderu.
I needed this story thank you 😂
When i was in high school we had a Russian kid was like bald 6'3 i told him hey say what is bad about moose and squirrel and he said it so mounths later he sees rocky and Bullwinkle and he socks me in the arm out no were and just tells me "dat was not funny" and just walked off....we got hi as hell after that
My English Xbox friend learned I was from Texas and asked if we actually had cars or just rode horses everywhere
I am Mad Scientist, so cool son of a bitch
As an American... that Italian guy is spot on and it's hilarious! I didn't know how much I needed that video in my life
Kelly i know right? i was listening and it sorta sounds like music that just is playing to quietly to hear the words but you know it’s english, its trippy
Spot on.
I feel the exact same way and I'm an American as well.
It was almost like a pre-cursor to American Hip-Hop on wax.
The guy's flow was on point too.
(hi, Kelly) that guy was amazing. And yeah, he sounded like some inarticulate US pop star.
As an American I would dance to that a bit
He sounds good
I'm born and raised in Stockholm Sweden. In my 31 years I've never met a single person who doesn't like Swedish Chef.
In Germany, the Chef was called Smoerebrod the Danish Chef.
In Denmark he was the Swedish Chef.
My friends in Copenhagen thought the Swedish Chef was absolutely hilarious, but when I told them the German version of the Muppet Show had him as Danish, you could have heard a pin drop (until someone said BASTARDS!).
PS I love Swedish; Danish and Norwegian people. No offence intended.
As I swede I find this utterly hilarious
Why wasn't the norwegian chef in sweden and the the finnish chef in norway and the icelandic chef in filnalnd
Ingen fara.
I mean... As a Norwegian I don't think it sounds similar to the north Germanic languages at all, compare that to that italian guy who I'd say actually nailed making something sound like american english.
drageben because Finnish has absolutely nothing to do with the Scandinavian languages...
As a Swede, I am not offended by the Swedish chef. He brings joy to people, thus he is a hero of my nation.
That Italian guy's American impression was amazing- I'm an American and I think it was spot on
I'm a Swede who moved to England and when I first heard about the Swedish chef (from every single person here I met) I found it hilarious, but I gotta admit that nowadays the fact that people will still mimic that chef when they first meet me is just getting a bit old 😅 luckily my accent got good enough that people can't tell I'm Swedish anymore
I'm from Wisconsin, my brother told me about a friend who invited him to the gym with another buddy from the south. The southern dude was convinced that my brother was in on the stupid accent joke and was horrified when he found out it's really the southern wisconsin accent and couldn't believe we can talk knowing we sound like that. Which prompted my brother to bring up my speech impediment, which people used to mimic for years (until I learned to mostly avoid letting it slip out) and said "my sister talks a lot for someone who sounds stupid with her speech impediment".
"Guy Fieri is the American version of Swedish Chef"
I love Guy Fieri even more now
I think a better comparison is "Americans wouldn't like it if there was an american stereotype pastiche that spoke gibberish... with a canadian accent."
but Minnesota exists
IoKnight as an American, that sounds hilarious.
I mean isn't there muppet eagle
There is! It's Sam the Eagle
Well, the average Canadian sounds mostly like an average American. A boot v. About are the only differences that pop up regularly, so I don't think that analogy holds up...
Plus Brits seem to think all Americans are from Texas or Kentucky, and frankly (as an American,) I find that hilarious.
Americans aren't usually too sensitive about being made fun of for our culture since we usually do it to ourselves before anyone else gets a chance.
This "Italian guy" is worth of a separate video, Adriano Celentano is a pretty fascinating character :)
I think why we don't like the Swedish chef is that we sort of expect him to give us some recognition humor, but then he doesn't because he really doesn't sound Swedish to us in anyway at all... He is more like some random thing that somebody slapped "Swedish" on...
I thought he was danish. Because here in Germany he is called Danish Chef.
At first I didn't realize the Italian guy wasn't singing in English. That is by far the funniest thing I've heard all day! Additional detail is I'm American.
Most Swede's wouldn't use so strong words as upset or pissed off, we would just clench our fists in our pockets and move on :P
What a hint of self loathing there Xerdoz. Obviously your parents didn't teach you manners.
Arthur's fist
Här här! Like a real Swede!
Concerning dubs and sweden: We dont dub that much stuff. Mostly cartoons and shows where the major demographic is 10 or younger. We put subtitels on everything else.
This places The Muppets in quite a strange place. The movies from the 90's and 00's have a swedish dub IF they released in the theatre. I have memories of seeing the muppet christmas carol with a swedish dub as a kid, but at the same time Muppets Tonight aired with subs.
Fraggle Rock, muppet babies and Sesam Street was dubed. We also made our own Sesam content under the name Swedis Sesam (no street). I have never seen the old films (movie, caper and manhattan), the muppet show or any other old stuff dubbed to Swedish.
And we like the Swedish Chef, we just don't think it sounds like hes speaking mock-swedish.
I don't think it's weird that the Swedish chef isn't that popular here in Sweden. The joke doesn't work as well if you know Swedish, because then he really doesn't sound that Swedish. It's just generic gibberish. Other Muppets are way funnier.
Also, in Sweden humor that makes fun of Sweden is really popular so our standards are high for comedic parody of our culture.
Johan Glans is splendid.
To be fair, we often find jokes about sweden from other swedes to be funny. If it's a foreign person doing the joke the standard must be pretty high to be acceptable. It's hard to make quality jokes about a culture you're unfamiliar with.
TheRedAzuki I'll have to check him out then.
TheRedAzuki Glans sounds like a dick :^)
The words a gibberish but the got the speech pattern right.I thinks it is really good. When I have issue is the Inga from Sweden sterotype with the lederhsen and the semi-germanic accent.
I'm Swedish and I looove the Swedish chef, it makes it even more hilarious hearing the fake swedish accent when you speak the real language!
'Americans would hate it if there were a character like this mocking them' - no, Americans love characters like that (and by the way the muppet show had one: Sam the American Eagle; granted that was a very different time and a very specific stereotype)
Americans love when Americans mock other Americans. If someone from Sweden made a character that mocked them, then you'd never hear the end of it.
Only Americans without a sense of humor would complain, but the rest of America would life their ass' off!
Josh Griffiths Not all of us are so sensitive😂
Josh - You'd never hear the beginning of it, because we wouldn't notice.
notoriouswhitemoth We elected a clown as our president who mocks us every day.....I think we can handle Muppets.
Me, a Swede, and all my friends like The Swedish Chef. Take care, or as we say in Sweden: Bork bork bork.
As someone who speaks both English and Swedish I can say that Prisencolinensinainciusol sounds way closer to American English than the Swedish chef sounds to Swedish.
the story of the swedish chef i've heard is that it was a swede with the Dalecarlian dialect which was very nervous and for a foreigner it sounds possible that you may sounds like the swedish chef
I'm Swedish and I love the Swedish chef, but I have been asked multiple times what it is that hes saying.
Who are these Swedes who hate the Swedish Chef? Everyone I know likes the character.
Maybe they love the character, but just hate that it doesn't has Swedish accent? That or the people that get annoyed when everyone knows just the same 3 things about your country.
That would kind of describe my feelings towards him. I don't mind neither the character nor the fact that Henson found it hilarious. What bothers me is that the first thing I get from Americans if I mention I'm swedish is some kind of gibberish loosely based on the Swedish chef. Also the thing with Americans actually thinking that Å Ä Ö doesn't make a word sound any different and use it to make their Twitter names look cool.
The casual racism that noone thinks is the least bit racist whilst at the same time getting all huffy about Apu from the Simpsons is to say the least stupid and at best hypocritical.
Yeah, I think he may be the most popular muppet in Sweden! Never heard a bad word about him.
It's more that we hate the combination of all Scandinavian languages and spelling mixed together, and with a bit of German thrown in.
@DarkyInside Believe me this isn't the oldest comment that I've been responded to during this months. And at least they know 3 things, if they still remember most probably only thinks of earthquakes and the 33 miners when thinking of Chile (y las tortillas de papa con chorizo son exquisitas)
the inspiration of the swedish chef is actually a nervous dalcarlian chef, the swedish chef talks with more of an dalcarlian accent than any other swedish accent
Saw that fake English song a few years ago, apparently the guy made it because he was stick of American songs getting into the charts and girls loving them but not knowing the words.
Think they did an anniversary special or something and reshot the video.
" with no clue what it actually meant." is the best part. Just like listening to a foreign song and hearing words in your language that aren't supposed to be there. It kinda turns into a Weird Al rip at that point. Japanese ( English translation) → what you hear in English
Saikou (the highest) → Psycho
Binbou (poor) → Bimbo
Kichinto (accurately) → Kitchen toe
Ranbo (violence) → Rambo
Dou-itashimashite (your welcome) → Don’t touch my mustache
Itadakimasu (expression of gratitude before meals) → Eat a duck I must
Big deal. I'm French and I love most French stereotypes. I used to lobby against it, but it was quite a challenge and I ended up surrendering
4:15 - The Muppets have never been dubbed into Swedish. We just put subtitles on it, like everything else
*edit... Ok.... It seems like the movies have been dubbed...
Yeah I dunno where you get your facts, mate, but I'm swedish, and I have the swedish chef song as my ringtone, and I know several other swedish people who love swedish chef.
Hil0 "Several other Swedish people" aren't that much of a sample, really. It isn't any more factual than this video. I'm firmly in the "hate the Swedish chef" category myself.
The source used is in the description. It notes that the character is not popular in Sweden and that a common criticism from Swedes and linguists is that he doesn't "sound" Swedish. Which is exactly what the I say in the video. I guess you're an exception to this, which I guess makes you special. Treasure that feeling.
not saying it's more factual, but the video makes it sound like *all* swedes dislike swedish chef.
Hil0 I do like meatballs though. :-)
I am surprised to learn that Swedish folk might like the chef.
He's very over the top. I could easily have imagined that most Swedes disliked the chef a lot. Glad it isn't so.
If the Swedish chef was the American chef he’d speak in a Canadian accent. That’s basically what it’s like.
I typed pri in the search bar and immediately this "prisencolinensinainciusol music video" pops up. I love it.
I like your show, I would suggest sound balancing, and editing out any dead air.
As I like your work, i will stick around and watch the channel grow.
You have a real shot at this, keep it up!
mrscary3105 Wow. Now that youre here, this channel actually matters. Lets hope he takes your Sage advice so it has a chance!
As an American, I happen to love Prisencolinensinainciusol because it's a great window into what an American accent sounds like to non-English speakers.
1l5 years later: bollocs! I am Swedish, and I love the Swedish chef!
As a Swede, I can confirm that the Swedish chef in the Muppets is actually French in the Swedish dub.
They can save the Boba fet movie by having him take his helmet off and talk like the sweedish chef, "No disagratahoo? Bork bork bork!"
shipyard is "Schiffswerft" in german, Schifffahrt actually means just "shipping"
silentguy123 There are all sorts of words used differently, so maybe you‘re just not custom to it. English might not be my first language, but i found it in two translation books. just because you have never heard of it, does not make it untrue. ^^
edit: the proper translation of "drive a ship" would be "ein Schiff fahren".
Prisencolinenasinainciusol by Adriano Celentano is IMHO much more refined than the swedish chef. Swedish chef is more like mumbling stuff while Celentano's song uses actual (fake) words which repeat (on the chorus). Also, it's a great song and funny clip.
I'm sure that Adriano Celentano (the italian guy) is just a time-travelling Sacha Baron Cohen
As an American, I will say that you nailed Guy Fieri perfectly!
Thank u for that song. It's one of my favorite songs of all time now
I played Prisencolinensinainciusol for my Brazilian husband back when his English wasn't so great and he legit thought it was just a song in English that he couldn't understand.
Now everyone in the house is awake, thanks.
I always wanted to make my own alcohol with this dude on the label and call it Flerbin Bourbon. The tagline would be "herr shi-burr, bork bork!" like it was an endorsement.
5:46 The Muppet Show isn't for kids (not really), it was meant to be a puppet variety show for adults, though I'm sure kids enjoy some of it.
7:28 as a filthy American i can say he's got it down pretty good lol
Guild Wars 1 has language support for "Bork! Bork! Bork!".
I'm American and I love Jeremy Clarkson's impressions of Americans.
JetTunic0857935 we don't call ourselves the melting pot for nothing.
That end bit had me on the floor 😂 that is exactly what we sound like 😂 funky cowboys 😂
Well i like him and i'm Swedish.
Came for the Bork. Didn’t expect a ride into flavortown
Well isn't Sam Eagle kind of the Muppet joke version of Americans?
That Italian guy was spot on! Sounds American to me
Idk. The italian dude sounded more like a british dude trying an american accent
Prisencolinensinainciusol! Alright!! :D
As an American, I was really trying to figure out what that Italian dude was saying cause it REALLY sounds like English
As someone who grew up with Danish family, I can absolutely confirm that Sweden is the butt of so many jokes, and they get INCREDIBLY pissy about it. Then again, Denmark is also fantastically pissy about being made fun of, especially by Sweden. Eating your chips with mayonnaise instead of ketchup or remoulade (a less tart tartar sauce) will earn you death-glares from fellow Danes because "it's what the Swedes do". I love it.
For the record, the Muppet Show itself admits that he doesn't actually speak Swedish. They bring it up at least twice.
I am Swedish and every time I watch the swedish chef I'm like "What the f$%k is he saying!"
I wasn’t paying attention to the video and saw the Italian guy but just heard his accent and actually thought he sounded American then I heard you talk about it after he finished and had to go back and rewatch lol
In Sweden we rarely redub shows or movies other than kids shows and kids movies, and movies are oftenly available in the original language during the theatrical release. The Muppet Show was no exception and was on during prime time, in english and with subtitles.
"Americans would hate a piss take of them"
One of my favorite parts of Green Street Hooligans is when they go:
"Watch out, hes American. They bruise easily"
I laughed so fucking hard at that scene. Not only do we not care when you make fun of us, we actually love it. Like the spirit of a roast, or Don Rickles.
Pretty sure that Italian dude mumbling in garbled English wrote some of Nirvana's songs.
Music at the end is loud af
But I love swedish chef! (Although he really doesn't sound remotely swedish, more danish or norwegian)
"you don't speak the language as much as you chew on it and spit it out" ~ Stewie
And that song is fucking hilarious.
I love Guy Fieri! And the trash can nachos at his restaurant are amazing!
You little twerp of a presenter. I'm Swedish and I love the Swedish Chef. Always have.
Buzz McFly Don't be rude! You're the odd one out. The rest of us just cringe.
Shocking, I know. Someone who likes funny stuff.
A Swedish friend of mine has had Swëdïsh chëf as his profile pic forever and he generally loves him. Never met anyone who actually hated him, either.
I am Swedish-American and I LUV the chef
Same! That was my fave muppet growing up!
I don't know why but when you mentioned the song by that Italian guy I instantly thought of "Shaddap You Face" by Joe Dolce.
I had the great idea to boost the bass on my headphones during the end card. The song feels great
I learned something today and that is that I am terrified of The Muppets. Thank you Karl
that song is badass btw!
I'm more offended that you think we're offended by the swedish chef lol
That Italian dude absolutely sounds like he's singing in American English but I just can't quite make out what he's saying. It's hilarious and brilliant at the same time!
that italian dude is a fuckin bop
HOLY SHIT I CANT BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE ELSE KNOWS ABOUT PRISENCOLINENSINAINCUISOL. I heard that song for the first time when I was in 4th grade and no one else I’ve ever met has known it. It’s great to hear some of the story behind it.
Honestly I almost wish I saw more American stereotypes. The best on I saw was in this Kdrama and this dude walked around with his blond hair and his surfboard and just...I can’t explain it, he had the most dude bro voice ever and I think he left to just go party and drink down at the beach. I mean, it was beautiful.
Jim just always looked like a family friend, who u wished was family
Just saying... Schifffahrt does not mean shipjard (that would be a "Werft"), it means the use of ships for transport or travel (as a noun).
Denise Nova
While it can also mean that, it also has the more general meaning of "the use of ships"
The dude doing the gibberish song to sound American -- it sounds TOTALLY American. He nailed it.
I can't help but think of The Thing, where Kurt Russell keeps calling the Norwegians 'those crazy Swedes'
Actually I am swedish and swedish chef is one of my favorite characters so you're wrong
I'm going to download that Italian song, shit bumps
I like where that subscribe is placed at the end. I just might touch it.
If someone in another country created a character poking fun at how we Americans talk, I will fucking lose my shit. I would be laughing so hard, that I'd probably piss my pants. It would most likely become one of my favorite characters.
If someone already did, please let me know and point me in that direction!
I have no idea what that guy was saying in the song but it sounded damn good
I'm American and I laughed until tears we're streaming down my cheeks that was so fuckin' funny!
The Italian dude just sounds like a person from the sums ngl
Once for a class we where looking for the most unreadable name possible so we named if after that faux American song
Boomhower from king of the hill
I am from Sweden and I love the Swedish chef
That suggestive "Subscribe" on Karl Bigwood....
That Italian guy rocks!
Could you imagine the show Vikings, but with everyone talking like the Swedish Chef?
The Swedish Chef for us Swedes leave the same kind of feeling as probably Nigel Thornberry for you brits or some character like that, if they were as popular and were named after you nationality as if it were legit :P
I love that Italian song
The voice of the swedish chef is actually a painstakingly re-edited and put together mix of old ABBA songs. It might sound expensive, but a certain swedish furniture giant secretly bought all the rights and made it a reality. Sadly, the evidence got lost in the war. But you can still find traces of it on old LP discs, especially the 2nd edition ones. Played back at exactly the right speed some portions of it will be phonetically identical to the words spoken by the swedish chef, even down to coughs, sneezes and garglings.
However, a short while before airing the original recordings were lost. That is why they had to voice him the way you described in this video. As a swede I can confirm that the video is otherwise totally accurate.
I'm American and I always say if you can't laugh at yourself you shouldn't laugh at anyone else. That said, I have an excellent sense of humor!😂
i have a pair of boxers with the same exact pattern as that shirt.
