Inside a 16th-Century Farmhouse Nestled in The English Countryside | Design Notes

- Louise Jones welcomes us into her charming farmhouse located in Surrey. Enchanted by its idyllic setting, Louise Jones could see the merits of this 16th-century Surrey farmhouse despite its interior having been stripped of any character. With ingenuity and hard work, and the introduction of pattern and colour, she has given it personality in abundance.
“I was struck by its location,” Jones explains. “It’s in such a tranquil, isolated spot - the scenery was pretty spectacular, so I thought that ticked that box… And the house and garden was a blank canvas!” Watch the full episode of ‘Design Notes’ as we tour Louise Jones’s remote farmhouse nestled in the English countryside.

So beautiful. When I was younger I never understood the appeal of grandmas classic home but really it ends up being so timeless. If nothing changed in this home for the next 30 years I expect it will still feel the same, in a good way
This is precisely what I imagine when I think of an English country house. Charm, warmth, comfort; nothing too fussy or pretentious-just a lovely, homely home.
One of the loveliest homes featured - historic, warm and functional. Absolutely love love!
What a dreamy home, lots of inspiration to gather here.
I didn’t want this video to end! Delightful 😊 I can’t decide whether I loved the garden or the house more! I’m also inspired to have two deckchairs and a frilly parasol in my own garden 🪴 🌿🌸
The colours are so unusual and the overall effect for me was relaxed and informal, despite the age and intricacy of so many of the objects and patterns. Really lovely. Thank you for sharing this with us all.
That’s a perfectly charming home and I love the way she has preserved the original features. Well done!
What a stunning and timeless home. So cosy and yet stylish. What a great eye you have
Both loveable and livable! Almost a dream.
Love it! Very beautiful and "organic". She has great taste. A real home. ❤
What a delightful home. It’s lovely to see so many items that have meaning to the owner rather than have being chosen to be in fashion or on trend as they say. A video I shall watch several times.
Heartachingly lovely, a little piece of heaven on Earth. Thank you Louise for being so generous as to share your home with all of us nosey parkers out here! Loved every square inch of your property, you did a magnificent job and ought to be very proud of what you achieved indeed. I look for historic country homes on real estate websites, my heart skipping a beat when I come across ones like yours-- but then am instantly crestfallen to see how unsympathetically so many of these country houses and cottages have been restored. I've felt like weeping dramatically a handful of times to see what these beautiful homes have had done to them internally. Nobody gives credit to people who care about architectural history and want to return these homes to former glory, restoring a property with sympathy, historical integrity and a sense of erudition and intelligence. Most of them get mauled, sorry, 'modernised'. It's absolutely ghastly. Hats off to you and what you've done here.
You wrote my comment for me!😊 I even had the same word come to mind, heartaching.
@@helenkane8594 We must be kindred spirits Helen. I bet you're such fun to go to flea markets with-- although the downside is that we'd both want to buy the same things, ha!
😊 indeed kindred spirits and I definitely like flea markets.ive watched this video a couple of times, it's so well done, filming, the decoration, keeping original elements, the kitchen created with actual different pieces of furniture instead of a one piece wrap is all so great. There is one grey blue chair in the house I wish I knew the fabric, it's got the pattern in a lighter shade, it's beautiful.
❤
Stunning English country house with all the flowers, dogs and horses. Almost like being in heaven. Love it ❤!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🌱🌱🌱🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏Praha
Tasteful and cozy! I really would like to spend a few days there, enjoying the garden with it's flowers in the day and a fire in the evening!
This is just so lovely and so calming. That kitchen is perfection. I’d so love to have a non-fitted kitchen.
Lovely, comfortable house with a kitchen that is made for cooking and spending time in rather than shiny, cold room for show, because nobody cooks in it. I love the bathroom as I like cozy bathrooms that look like rooms.
i would love to see this home displayed in the evening with the lights etc. perhaps H and G will do something like that in the future? that garden is beyond breathtaking
Colour sense and sensibility for DAYYYYSSSSSS ❤ A pop here, a mute there, a tone on tone, a bold statement in the bathroom, and then the garden. If design was a piece of music 🎶 this would be a piece I'd want to here.❤ Thanks for letting us in.
Thank you for your lovely comment, we are very lucky to be custodians of an amazing place
The most perfect pink color of a sofa!
every corner is cozier than the next! love the modular approach to the kitchen and over use of furniture. what an intimate feel
I loved the horses grazing on the lawn! ❤
Lovely English country house. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I absolutely love this home. Everywhere you look there's something unique, interesting and beautiful. I'm terrified of home design. I know what I like but I'm frightened that it doesn't go. After seeing this, I've decided to not care and have whatever I like! Life's too short.
YAY!!!!! ❤❤❤Another design notes video…. This has got to be my most favorite CZcams channel EVER…. I wished there were weekly vlogs…..
Same
I really enjoyed this video. It was overdue. Beautiful home. I needed a dose of an English country house. I loooove the couch.
Felicity Jacobs, Cape Town, South Africa
Stunning!!!! This must be my absolute favourite! She and I have the same taste…..gorgeous colours….and so very cozy! ❤
Absolute perfection. Everything is beautiful!
The house we lived in when my father was stationed in Essex was built in 1432 out of ships timbers. I’ve love old housed ever since. My husband and I live in a 1793 farm house in USA and bought a tower in Lazio area Italy built in 799. Probably the oldest we’ll live in permanently. We love old.
Cluttered, lovely and warm. Love it!
That bathroom is amazing!

PURE MAGNIFICENCE 🌻
What a spectacularly decorated home. Simply breathtaking and timeless. Love every bit of it.
This is really my dream home. It's absolutely perfect!
A beautiful, comfortable well designed home. It doesn't scream someone designed me and has a lot of money!
That’s because we don’t!
Just gorgeous!!! Literally my dream home ❤
Its' amazing bouquets! 💐🌿 That are making this interior more cozy. I like these vases, the mural in the bedroom, floral textile, pictures on the walls. 💙 Stunning interior!
Sitting room is gorgeous! And the kitchen! Love her style!
So lovely to have a good picking garden to give the interiors a sense of the outdoors. I am a big fan of lots of flowers indoors. I presume that you have ‘help’ in this house, I couldnt imagine having to do the vacuuming - I’d probably just escape to the garden….
I adore the light pink walls with the pink sofa 💞
Very inviting and warm home. I especially love how the kitchen came together, I do not care for fitted kitchens and this kitchen couldn't explain better why. Never saw a sink set-up like that, great idea.
I adore this home! Your choices in the bedroom to take the most advantage of the fantastic Tudor wall painting are wonderful! I also have a dark dining room that's at the center of the house, and it makes for a unique atmosphere. I like the wallpaper in the bathroom, especially as it's broken up with the beams. How fun to have your horses grazing in the garden while you relax. It looks like a charmed life, and a great place to escape the bustle of the city.
What a lovely home
This is what I have tried to create in my somewhat more modern home. It feels like when you come home your house gives you a big hug❣️ I hate clean lines and minimalism, I want to be surrounded by all the things I love❤️ This house is absolutely beautiful.
Wonderful.....What a joy watching
A beautiful home and such an interesting presentation. Thank you so much.
So So Beautiful ❤❤❤🐾🐾Thank you
Fabulous! Beautiful, comfortable, inspiring, interesting. Oh I could be very, very happy in a home like this!
Stunning.
Beautiful home and garden ❤ thank you for sharing 😊
The bathroom is to die for !
And the dining room! It must look so stunning at Christmas time, lit up at night. I was watching one of those 'Country House Rescue' programs many years ago when a blowhard 'expert' waltzed into a grand home a couple had inherited and were struggling with renovating and redecorating and pronounced pompously that 'you NEVER EVER paint the walls of a dining room green, it's a big no-no, everybody knows this blah blah, it makes food look unappetising, it reflects on guest's faces and creates the illusion of a sickly pallor'... She went on and on. I've lost count of the amount of stately homes, cottages and country manors which I've seen with beautiful green walls so I wince at the recollection of this Know-it-All rambling on in that offputtingly arrogant (and ultimately incorrect) way. So much for being an 'expert' hey?
Very cozy and romantic I felt, love the uniqueness of the space ❤
Adorable!
Lurcher, a new word!
A lurcher is a crossbred dog resulting from mating a greyhound or other sighthound with a dog of another type such as a herding dog or a terrier. The lurcher was for hundreds of years strongly associated with poaching; in modern times, it is kept as a hunting dog or companion dog.
ThIs is a beautiful home.love the colours in each room.❤
Would you kindly do more of these DESIGN NOTES videos PLEASE as they bring me such joy????? 🤞🤞🤞❤️❤️❤️
Gorgeous ❤! I would love to live in a home like that.❤😊

Gorgeous, love it! ❤
I love the old nostalgic of the home absolutely beautiful. 💛 and at 1:46 to 1:49 don’t get me started on that beautiful thing he is gorgeous😄
Well she's just fabulous, isn't she. I'm quite partial to horse painting myself.
Thank you, I’ll tell her, I think so too
Love her! Beautiful home and style and I loved it when she said "I am more of a magpie" and "I know what I like". I absolutely identify with those statements and this woman and her beautiful style. Wish I knew her to come experience this property in person.
I helped a bit!!!
Stunning! Wholesome! More like this please.
Wow - loved this. Such a beautiful, warm home. Inspiring!
This! Is so beautiful. I adore this style💯!
Truly special. A house from the 1500's! Don't see that, everyday. I wonder the ceiling height, ground level. Is very low, as things were.
The sofa ... love it and looks ultra comfy! Thanks for featuring.
Beautiful ❤
A visual feast!
I love this!
Absolute Perfection ❤
Absolutely beautiful!!
Lovely!
Love your house esp the kitchen and the roses.
Fabulous!
Beautiful! I love it!
Thank you for the video
What makes that pink sofa so fluffy? Are the cushions stuffed with feathers? It looks like something I just want to flop into. Heavenly!
Beautiful home
So lovely
It's beautiful ❤️
You should do a video featuring Ted Dwane and Milli Proust’s cottage.
Love all, really all of this place, inside and out, especially the two greyhounds ❤
I love this house! Any idea what the paint color on the dining room wall is?
There's no cozier Home Decor like the British Country Style.
Most beautiful home! Does anyone know who makes the gorgeous pink sofa?
Loved it all - just my style (except for Portugese tile in a British Kitchen). Do you like reno youtubes - if you haven't seen "Escape to the Dream" - a British family in France restoring a 1720's small chateau with out buildings and they are very much do it yourselfers. I much prefer English decor to French but they are well worth the watch - the videos begin about 2020. It's hard not to cheer them on - such accomplishments --- but it does get down and dirty as the building had been abandoned over 40 years.
❤
I would love to know who the soundtrack is from!
Anyone found an Insta for her? Gloriously stylish - her balance is just right and I too love Nicky Haslam!
😍😍😍😍👌🏻
👏👏👏👏🌱🌱🌱🙏🙏🙏🙏Praha
Reminds me of my friend Quentin's house although he has a naughty dungeon! But it is hidden behind a fake bookcase
I loved the house, really, but I'm sorry they fooled with the Portuguese tiles from the 1700s, perhaps from the end of the 19th century, using an Iznik-inspired stencil.
I always watch these on mute so that only my eyes are engaged.
I loved the outside, the animals, the flowers arrangements and the building.
I disliked cushions standing at attention on the bed, bed pelmet, the mushed green peas color (so bad for complexion), the art.
I question bathtubs in general in our current climate, and the refusal over cosmetics to use single taps with regulated water temperature.
This is clearly a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. 🤎😌
Amazing! 🫠❤️
