That's one of the most beautiful hooks of any song I've heard yet. It's not something I'd expect on an Eminem-track but it fits so well. Love this song.
People say it's actually about his relationship with drugs and yeah, I can see the hints that it's true. But it works really well as a man/woman relationship-song, too.

Agree! I always thought it must be a sample from a chorus of an existing song, cause it sounds so classic. And Em often sample awesome old stuff. Anyone knows?
@@DaP84 Haha - now I had to google it. Apparently the hook was a written song by the British songwriter Steve McEwan (he also sings it) and they got it to Eminem (which was apparently not easy) and he liked it, stripped the song down and only used the hook (and probably the melody, or parts of it). It also contains a sample of an REM-song ("Drive") and a sample of a song by Nick Cave called "Song for Bob" .
And then I read the "critical reception" and just got hella mad about it because critics can be such assholes. So I keep listening to the song and the more I listen and look at the video, the more I'm certain that it works as a double for drug-addiction as well as the love-angle. Which would mean the critics cited on wikipedia (yes, I was lazy and used that as a source) were too dumb to understand. Which wouldn't surprise me at all.

He was supposed to be in a TV show I believe? A remake of an older western, but in the modern times about a bounty hunter. But that was cancelled. He was also supposed to play the lead role in the film Southpaw, but Em said he'd just prefer to do the music for it and be a consultant if they wanted for it. Makes sense "Southpaw" as Em himself is a "southpaw" writer and uses his left hand obviously. The movie was actually heavily inspired by Eminem's struggles in life and his passion he puts into his music.

This song is a double most of Ems songs are double entendres this is about relationships/drugs. If you want a beautiful example listen to Good Guy, the song is about the music game but it is also displayed as an abusive relationship
And also Darkness it's about the vegas shooter but he also draws a parallel to his own life he is RIDICULOUS with his wordplay and his genius writing skills

This song is a story recounting the death of Em’s uncle Ronnie “who killed himself over some bitch who didn’t want him” as mentioned in Stan. Ronnie was about the same age as Em. He killed himself in 1991 when he was 19 because Ronnie’s girlfriend left him.

I love this cd and this song. Never seen the video though. This song came out right after I had gotten out of a serious relationship so it made it difficult to listen to for a while. Idk if he’s talking about a woman, the industry, or drugs, or whatever, but you can make that “person” anything you want, that you loved, and got burned and broken by and it still makes complete sense. That’s what makes it so damn good.

As a person in recovery 100 I’m pretty sure he’s talking about his Addiction. Honestly every word paints a picture of the pain prior the reason the use and how nobody matters only that drug. Yeah that’s someone who is sick and in their addiction. This is one if my favs and I completely relate!
I think this song is a triple...could be about a female relationship but I think its geared towards the Rap Game in general at that time &/or his addiction....

I know that kind of love but I could never bring myself to kill myself, and that's because I do believe in God, and that's real talk. Believe me God does bring you through the hardest times of your life if you truly believe, plus there is a deficiency but when you get hurt so bad there is that hole in your heart and you don't know if it would ever get filled,but the key thing is to learn from that relationship. And I think he's still in love with her or he's in love with The Way They Were parent believe me I am in the same situation when you're with somebody since junior high and I'm about Eminem's age and you go through everything together it's so hard to break away from that person but I will tell you what time is just a little easier to understand that you're not in love with the person they are now the person they were back then.
