A Civil Rights era classic! Another powerful songs from that era dealing with the Civil Rights era are "If you Had a Choice of Colors" and "We're a Winner" both by the Impressions.
This is an important American Classic. His label didn’t want to put this out because of the political climate ,but the country hell the world was so moved it became a anthem ☮️

It was harder for a Black man to get a good job back then. There was still a lot of segregation too. That's what he's singing about.
A year later Sam Cooke was shot and killed. Change didn't come for him.
