    Quite clear here that Jose was giving Mata a challenge, he wanted to make things hard for him to try and get an extra level from him, like what he did to Joe Cole, Arjen Robben and Shaun Wright-Phillips. That says to me he actually thought higher of Mata than Oscar or Hazard or Willian, because he hasn't given them that kind of test. He wanted Mata to have a point to prove because world class players can go even further with that kind of motivation. I think it's worked with Torres. But with Mata, Juan is university educated, he's probably genuinely too intelligent for that tactic, and maybe felt, I don't have time for this guy's ACME mind trick, I need to be playing, I've got nothing to prove here, he's just standing in my way. So it backfired and you can count it up to a mistake for Jose, rare as those are, he probably regrets Mata leaving but if a player asks to leave you can't hold onto them. Jose will always have a harder time with intelligent people, guys who think for themselves, he needs people who run on emotion and faith to be able to manipulate them to greater success. He's an incredible manager. But Mata will be hugely successful for a number of years at United, he won't be set back by the move.

      @stevemccambridge5947 Před 10 lety +2

      errrrrm... no. He doesnt like mata because he has no work rate and doesnt do defensive duties. Chelsea have been much stronger without him and £40m in the bank.

    • @Rodgerinho
      @Rodgerinho Před 10 lety +3

      If Jose didn't like Mata, he'd have made it VERY clear. He wouldn't have said he thought Mata was a great player, he wouldn't have lied like that, he's had players he didn't like before. Mata has a top work rate, and if you watched the Newcastle game, he made some great tackles, he can defend at times, but who cares if he doesn't, guy's a creative genius, his assists are in the top 5 in Europe, and he was Chelsea's best player 2 years running on merit.
      As far as Chelsea being stronger? Well I caught that Aston Villa game where they lost because they didn't have enough creativity to score and effectively threw away the title. Mata might have helped there...
      That £40m....that's the same amount you threw away on Shevchenko and Kalou. Well you only made £12m on Mata. So that's £28m you still threw away on flops. Oh and £55m on Torres. £83m. Oh and the cool £28m to bring Villas-Boas to the club, and then subsequently sack him 6 months later. What's that, around £5m a month. So we're up to £111m that Chelsea are down, even after they sold Mata. I could add Mutu, Crespo, Zhirkov among others. Don't talk about money Chelsea have in the bank.

As manager hw felt his team performed better when Mata wasn't in the team. if he kept Mata, then he's not doing what is best for the team. also when he can afford to let one of his best players leave it sends a message to the other players, about how hard they have to work

    For those who says mourinho is a disgrace forgets Brian Clough and his comments about other managers, his attacks on other pundits. Sir Alex is no better, he is also a master of mind games. Wenger is no different he lies and says 'I didn't see it' whenever there is a penalty against the other team. Ppl dislike mourinho because he is arrogant, so what? It makes football way more interesting as it creates tension, rivalries etc. This is what makes football great as good as mayweather is for the sport of boxing. If you don't like it go and watch tennis or swimming.....

    I respect Mourinho a lot, and whatever happens happens and the club moves forward, but I always thought we have found a successor to Lampard in the form of the brilliant Mata, he already has the great passing ability, free kicks, all he needs to learn now is to a bit more aggressive because of his stature compared to Lamps, and more importantly his skills at scoring and finishing goals. Mata = Lampard
    El Shaarawy= Kaka
    I hope McEachran finds his way back home as well.

    he is the best player in chelsea's squad for the past 2 years i agree, but he bascially doesnt fit in mourinho's philosophy. we all doubted his decision but he proved that he doesnt fit, and we're better off without him to be honest. Next season, will be more proof that selling mata was a very good decision, because trust me, oscar hazard and willian will be much much better by next year.
    also, mata fits in a side like united who have alot of possession. last season, he was amazing, but because of him chelsea were very slow and narrow, which helped other teams defend very easily against us. With oscar, willian, and hazard, our counter attack is much better. they are more quick, skilful, and can find space in tight areas. mata is an amazing passer, but he slows down the attack and doesnt fit in counter-attacking football. willian, hazard, and oscar can play in 3 different positions, they switch between the three positions all game, and that makes it very difficult for the other team to defend against. mata is good, but he just doesnt fit in mourinho's plans.

      Manuel Pellegrini was left rueing a personal record against Mourinho that now stands at seven defeats and one win in nine matches........Charlatan,keeps winning or is it swindling,just how does he do it without talent?Us mortals don't know ASSIR,please,please,bless me with your wisdom

      This record is while Pellegrini was at lowly Malaga, and Moronho was swindling and destroying the all-mighty Real Madrid. Listen, I've no more to say to you as it looks as you are a Mou fan before anything else.

    I'm starting to loathe this guy. Sold Mata, De Bruyne and barely plays Luiz, He's so self centered. Notice how he brings up his past success' whenever he feels under pressure. And why is he bad mouthing Gullit, doesn't he know that guy did a lot for Chelsea.

      +mkraider96 sold Mata, De Bruyne and Luiz and wins the league after selling them... yea i think he knows what he's doing and as much as i love Gullit, Jose has done a lot more for Chelsea

    Jose Mourihho's got no right to slag off Rudd Gullit. Jose Mourihho made 94 appearances for 4 clubs in 7 years in his senior career. Whereas Ruud Gullit made 465 appearances for 6 clubs over a 19 year Senior career scoring 175 goals!
    Jose Mourinho is the better manager but he should of let some of the dead woods go instead of getting rid of Juan Mata!

      Are you referring Mourinho as a player? Don't remember seeing him played professionally.

      You can't base foptball knowledge off players, most of them have one braincell to their name, players that develop into managers, and good ones, are the smart ones.

      cosmicbubble12 I haven't done a survey, but i observed the best managers seem to be a defender or defensive midfield player.
      Would be nice to research and form some stats on it.
      But my personal best managers are South American E.g Jose Pekerman and Marcelo Bielsa.

    Mourinho can ruin a player's physical abilities. He is there to wear them and tear them out, because his style of play is rustic. It has no innovation when it comes to making a connection between using players abilities, intelligence and measure on the field.
