Glad I happened on this video. I have the exact same separator, it was in mint condition, came with all parts including manual and cleaning brushes. Did not appear to have been used very much. It was nice to see you explaining all the parts and operation.

I was just gifted one of these. The older gentleman I received it from didn’t know how to put it together. He gave me a lot of milking equipment so I was excited to come across this video. Mine has the hand crank and also has electric. Excited to get it all cleaned up and check if the hand crank works.

Cleaning out the basement, and found this (a 3S). Always wondered what the hell it was! Family ranch here in MT, here since 1896.

This was really helpful, thank you! I'm pretty sure my separator has all its parts. The only thing I'm missing is a milk flow stopper/regulator in the main bowl. My biggest hold up was the plate cap was jammed in the main cap. The whole thing wouldn't seat correctly on the rest of the centrifuge so I couldn't thread that nut on top. I got a screw driver and carefully tapped out the plate cap. I was then able to put everything back together and get everything to seat properly so that nut would then thread on. I'll have to do some major cleaning because of rust and buildup but that shouldn't be a big deal. I think I can get the rest of it going by putting in some fresh oil. I can turn the hand crank so nothing is seized up.

Any chance you could share the dimensions of the o-ring? I recently acquired one of these, but didn’t come with the o-ring. It appears nearly impossible to find them. I am sure one of the many o-ring manufacturers could make one for me, but I don’t know the inside diameter, outside diameter, and thickness. I could make some decent guesses based on the metal part it will fit in, but it would definitely save some time and effort to get the exact dimensions. Thanks so much for sharing!

I recently got one of these and it’s in rough shape. I think my bearings are ok because I can turn the handle but it’s very tough. I can’t figure out how to take it apart to get to the bearings. I unscrewed it but it won’t come apart. Any suggestions?

Great video, Thank you! I just bought one yesterday. I’m missing a shelf and the lock nut on the centrifuge. If you have any resources to share I’d appreciate it. I’m also looking for the factory paint or paint code.

Say you wanted to replace the cork gasket - what would you do? My separator works wonderfully, but leaks some oil, so I'd love to get a new gasket for it.

I bought some gasket material at Napa auto and made a gasket with a hammer tapping the edges of the corners and it cuts through the material.

I have a 2s and a 3s, and I have problem trying to regulate the density of the cream, the 3s is hand powered, and the 2s have a motor. Any advice?

According to the original manual, which I just saw in a museum yesterday, the ideal cream will be obtained at 48 RPM, and on the hand-operated model, that speed is indicated by hearing a small "clink" every second or third rotation. A faster rotation gets thicker cream, and a slower rotation has more buttermilk mixed in.

It’s funny you say “where do you get one”, because I’m actually selling one and I watched his video to see how to put it back together so I can sell it. Lol
