- P0449 Customer complaints, engine light and front end noise. Vehicle had a code for a circuit failure within the vent control solenoid. I diagnose and fix the issue.
Check out my new website www.crazedperf...
Thank you. I'm almost 70 and I need these video to show me how to work on these newer cars. I liked how you spoke clearly and at a pace that I could understand.
Oh this was for my husband not me
I have watched over 500 youtube videos .. this was by far the best .. your clear, concise and very professional .. thank you
Thanks for your help!🎉🎉🎉
Great video. I really appreciate how you took the time to explain the what and why of what you were doing. The comparison of how the new part acts vs. the old one was also very helpful. I am now a subscriber!
This was a helpful video, I was able to diagnose and repair my own car thanks to this. Thank you.
Clear, intelligent, easy even for an idiot like myself. Thankyou
Thank you good video. Getting ready to do this on a 2010 HHR
This was very helpful thanks for posting it
Very helpful! Thanks,!!
Thx for doing your thing bud🙏
Thanks Good video nice, front Kissimmee fl
So I will install a shield under The car to keep out. Dust water Thanks for the vidio. Have been chasing. Money lite for some time now now I no what it is I have already fixed it while waching the vidio. 2 minit job
People should be aware, there is a "Vapor Canister *Purge Valve / Solenoid* " and a "Vapor Canister *Vent Valve / Solenoid* " ...
Notice the Purge valve / solenoid is under the hood and the Vent valve / solenoid is on the charcoal canister underneath the vehicle somewhere near the gas tank. Be sure you are replacing the one that is faulty or both if needed. The issue can be either or both or something else...
Yup, however I've only replace one purge valve in the last 20 years and countless vent valves. Also seen a fair share of cracked hoses but those vent valves out in the gravel road country are extremely common to fail.
I did mention hoses I'm pretty sure but may have skipped out on the purge. This one had codes for vent specifically if I recall so why target a purge?
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair Yeah, I just want to be sure people don't get confused. I was googling for "evap solenoid" and "vent valve" and it was always showing shopping results for the purge valve under the hood and not the actual vent valve. And in other videos there seemed to be people getting confused and mixing up the two names and replacing the purge instead of the vent valve. It took a little extra digging to find the information on the vent valve/solenoid just because google was pointing me to the purge valve for some odd reason. Figured since your video actually shows the one I was looking for I'd leave a comment here too. And thanks for the video. It shows how easy it is to fix and how easy it is for dust to mess it all up.
If I were a betting man, I'd put money on Google trying to upsell you on parts.
@@vla1ne Google always shows products related to what you are searching for and not necessarily what you actually need. A family member just bought the wrong a/c refrigerant for a car because he looked at the ads instead of the specs below the ads. I always just look at the stickers under the hood but when your in a hurry I guess you end up putting too much trust in Google...
Thanks for the info.
Thank you
Bro you are very good & professional!!! Thanks for the video! My problem with my 08 Chevy HHR LT 2.4l is the RCDLR!!! I have TPMS light on and brand new factory key&fob but can’t get in learn mode with the fob so I’ve narrowed it down to either the RCDLR IS GOING BAD OR NEEDS REPROGRAMMING. Or the ecu/bcm is configured incorrectly. Please tell me you have a solution for this problem. Btw the fob will unlock & lock the doors and panic button work but after 1-3 minutes it stops working!! Please get back to me if you can help me. I’ve done most of work on my car bc I don’t trust the dealer’s plus their cost is crazy!! Car runs great and it’s just annoying to see when I spend god damn money on scooper Ultra Touring tires and Autel TPMS sensors.
but wont the new vent valve get stuff in it also and fail from the bad canister?
Ive got the 0449 code and when i get fuel my engine wont start because it floods could this be because of thiis valve wont close
You might have another issue all together that's allowing fuel into purge valve. This might just be a secondary issue. The vent valve is a normally open valve so when you fill up it vents. The only time it shuts is when the purge valve is activated if I remember correctly.
Great video that can be improved by removing the section about the noise caused by the bolt. Solving two problems with one video can cause some viewers to stop watching prematurely. I have made that mistake too many times. As you just said: "You can't always win all of them." Thanks for the video!
Thank you for this video. I have a 2006 Chevy HHR 2.4. Keep getting the code to check my gas cap. I have replaced the cap with a new Delco unit and I have also changed the evap purge control solenoid in the engine compartment, but after a few months the gas cap code returned. Now I'm going to change the vent control solenoid thanks to your helpful video. Also the car will run poorly and stall if I fill the fuel tank up, but everything is fine after I use up a gallon or so of fuel. Could this problem be related to the vent control solenoid? Keep up the helpful videos and tips.

Having the same issue with my 2008. Did you ever find the problem?
From your video, I can't tell where that thing is. You started with a closeup on it. Is it behind the gas tank?
By rear axle if I recall.
Actually, he said rear axle (or what goes for a rear axle in a front wheel drive car).
could this be a common problem in the winter ??? my father has the same code
Its a all year around problem. I suppose if moisture got in the solenoid or thewinding has a break that when cooled separates it could be a problem in winter. As far as i know though winter isn't much of a factor. most Common source of the problem is from dusty roads.
Whats the part number on that EVAP sensor? Please..
If the white tabs that hold the tube in is damaged, will that trigger the Code P0449? If so, how can I purchase them?
No the p0449 is a circuit malfunction code. This means it is a electrical issue.
Does it cause it to burn gas
good info
This did not help to take off my code. After clearing the code came back
Did you follow the test and verify your failed component prior to repair? You could also have faulty wires after all. It's not that common but possible. Also, a new part doesn't equal good part. Manufacturing does fail at there job some times.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair What weird about this is I'm slowly getting better fuel mileage, but everything I clear code it comes back. Gained 1.3mph
@@supertrucker1356 Hopefully it's not because your event valve is stuck shut and allowing fuel to go straight into the purge valve thus the intake. That would be uncalculated fuel from your tank into your engine which would mean your mileage would appear better on the gauge but would be actually sucking a vacuum in your gas tank. This could of course damage your gas tank and lead to much more serious problems.
Would it do without the rubber piece ?
No, you will have an Evap leak.
I changed it out, still throwing the code
Any luck figuring out the problem?
Can't see anything too dark
Watch on an actual screen inside a building that the screen isn't being hit with light...
My 2008 Chevy HHR has the exact same problem that you are experiencing. I've got it at a shop right now and this (imgur.com/FPdB0iQ ) is what they are asking for the repairs to be completed. Am I being ripped off?
Unless there is something wrong with the carbon canister they shouldn't be replacing it.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair ...Assume that there is something wrong with it. Is the price for the repairs fair?
@@Rickbearcat I would think so, depends on area but I'm surprised I don't see separate charge for diagnosis. Perhaps it's built in?
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair ...The diagnostic fee was $112.00. Additional. I didn't give this to you because I didn't feel it was a necessary item to include in the question. But, now that I do, there you are.
@@Rickbearcat labor rate in your area must be $120-130 per hr then?
