- R.I.P was my first experimental horror short that I made back in 2013. It still baffles me how it has reached 200k views and although I am thrilled about the exposure, this was made before a time that I was knowledgable about filmmaking. I just wanted to take a moment since it's been 6 years since I posted this movie. (You all will read that it was posted in Dec. But I actually posted it in July bu scheduled the release for December) I appreciate you all taking the time to watch and comment on my movie. I'd like you all to take a moment and realize that it's just a movie that you paid zero dollars to watch. Relax, take it easy. I made this movie back in 2013. I had just turned 19 3 months before we shot it. I was a kid that knew almost nothing about anything film related. And yet, you'd be surprised how many people can't manage to shoot their films with a crew of 2 people, a cast of 5 and a location that doesn't belong to them. I'm 25 now and have made films of higher quality now that I believe to be better than this but the audience are the judges. Check out my channel and watch 2 of my latest "Eye to I" and "Original" I hope you'll see the growth. Also you can check out my IMDB and see that the fruits of my labor haven't been totally wasted :). It's been a crazy ride which is why I'll forever leave this movie up and never delete any positive or negative comments. I'd like to see where I came from 10 years from now. The effort the acting the camera the plot. All the background effort we dont see thumbs up to you all

The whole movie looks hilarious. Terrible cinematography. 😂 But overall it was cool.
I figured the baby would play into it somehow.. I know of people said the acting was bad, but for me the kicker is that none of these people felt like they were actually friends, the dialogue had nothing in it. and even tho it's good to keep some mystery in the story, things like the blood, that guy in the stairwell.. some of this has to have meaning or else it's just random creepy things that happen with no significance.
The only thing scary about this (besides the acting) was the boyfriends haircut.

I kind of want Phil and Alex in every horror movie, just on the sidelines like "Well, this is awkward."
I can't give any constructive criticism, because I know nothing about film, but I really liked it. It was very scary and Phil's seizure with that weird silhouette and the special effects was really amazing. Seriously, this was scary and a lot of fun.
(I seriously loved Phil and Alex. You guys rocked it! *cries* I thought Alex would live!)

Even the door was trying to prevent them from going in. Pretty much the smartest prop in the movie!

SPOILER! I watch every horror film I can find, especially indies, and I came back and watched this again because I kept thinking about it. It's a very disturbing film, and certain aspects (like the dead friends standing and chasing) are particularly eerie. Yes, it scared me badly and thank you for that!:) Lily

I thought this was a horror movie...the dialogue is cracking me up! I know it's low-budget, but it's funny!

You clearly put a lot more thought, effort and skill into this work than many of the horror shorts I have seen. The only improbability I have seen in the first eight minutes is that five young people getting away for a weekend of fun would not be sitting like quiet, well behaved church mice as they drink (LOL!). I am confident you will produce even better stuff as you acquire more resources/funding.

Shaphat Haha, I understand completely man. When I look back at this film, there are quite a few things I wish I would have realized. We rush filmed this whole thing in 3 days and caused me to make a lot of mistakes. At the moment, I am working on 3 different films, one of them being a feature film and I plan on using this film to not repeat my mistakes. It's hard for me to believe it's already been well over a year since this film.
I actually have to disagree with this statement growing up i was pretty fun and out there but sometimes people woukd wonder why i had not drank anything or became so quiet at parties...to which me and a friend who was like me woukd answer...we are drunk...and people would be like you get quiet when your drunk? And we were like yep..and then we fall asleep. Of course that wasn't always the case but a lit of times yes
"He's not breathing" but continues to call his name like he's trying to wake him up lol and no CPR
I think this is a good project for friends. The chemistry between the actors was nice.
I really liked Alex and Phil. Darren, you're a very talented Writer and director. I loved the character development. It's not easy to flesh out the characters in such a short time span. You made me care about these people, well, except Tim. lol! Good job. all around.
I also really liked both the opening and closing songs. I will definitely look for your stuff in the future!
Now, I have to agree with others that the acting and some special effects could have been better, but I think the plot was interesting, there was obviously quite an effort put up into this, and some scenes were genuinely creepy, especially the ending. And yes, Phil and Alex were just great. I really like watching these short horror movies on CZcams; a great chance for new filmmakers to put up their work and show their talent. Being an aspiring screenwriter myself, I find that really enjoyable and inspiring. Maybe we should team up sometime LOL Keep up the good work, you are talented. Looking forward to watching more of your short movies.

Well, I enjoyed it and will subscribe to your channel Darren. Do you only perform your own stories or do you branch out to other horror stories as well? Like an "Urban Legends" story, with your own spin to it? I think you have great potential. keep doing what you do and who knows? Maybe you'll replace "Stephen King" Of course, you will have to work REALLY hard for that! hehe! Good luck and I will be watching! :D

Appreciate it man! It's funny because I have had a few people tell me how much they like Alex and Phil. I have thought about having those two in there own little comedy film but I am trying to build a bigger fan base first. I have no problem making films and getting no money in return but it does suck a bit when no one's at least watching the film.

"Aahh...not to break the awkward silence or anything but it's getting pretty hot in this car" nice delivery man right after the nice easy music breaking in the film and then the expression of disappointment by the friends upon seeing where they are. i feel like they died in order of who started to dislike the house itself and they were marked by the blood in that order, but im honestly not sure, it was just sort of random, but if some aspects were to change and it had more of a storyline, it would be much better.
Nice first movie. What bugged me the most is that everybody made every wrong move in the book, not a single person just walked out of there. I'd be screaming I"Il be waiting at the car".

Come on it wasn't that bad. Their banter was realistic. Although I expected them to shout surprise/Happy Birthday at the end.
My best critique is:
1. Definitely invest in a better camera, because you have good ideas (the shot of you all standing in the darkness was great)
2. The flashback at the end was kinda cliche and changed the mood, same with the silly scenes... I know it was for character development but it gave off a totally different mood.
3. Little more backstory on what started it all, like the waving in the window?
4. Little more realism in the character interactions, seemed a bit stiff.
Other than that, awesome job! I'm no film specialist but just coming from the audiences point of view.

The acting is not good, but I liked the guy who played Alex. The brothers Justin and Tim were not good at all. I liked the story. Unlike others who didn't like it. The cinematography could have been better.

Watched this and I was entertained! Even though a lot of the technical aspects could use improvement and you could make the story a little more believable, it's clear that you have a cinematic eye for how to put scenes together and you have some original ideas too. As a fellow filmmaker, I'm looking forward to seeing your future progress!
Thanks Manuel. I am currently in the progress of improving my tech to make things better and more fluent from scene to scene. And trying to improve my story writing abilities but that's something I have to get more patience in haha. But thanks and future projects will be coming soon.

dint know what the pattern was, but it seemed that house was picking people to die randomly. I liked the concept tho. The music was good and I liked the sound effects.
Im gonna guess that the "pattern" had to do with who the blood touched. It's less a pattern but that's the only thing that makes sense. The ceiling had it's period on the first guy to die (phil?), then tim had some on his forehead, i honestly wasnt paying much attention after this point but i assume alex had blood on him, and the girl had a blood smear on her head when (justin?) Held her and he had a blood smear on his forehead at the end.
