@@moem1531As a Michigan fan, I agree. ESPN has every opinion on. You just have to articulate your opinion well to be able to be respected. Jeff Saturday did better than Dan Orlovsky, and Molly did point out Desmond Howard’s rebuttal in terms of judging Michigan’s execution and how that would override anything Connor Stallions provided, but there’s still too much of this “well other people did it too.” If you leave that part out and focus on how Michigan’s execution was indicative of sign stealing having a negligible effect on performance (versus if Michigan players themselves were doping, for example), and if you focus on the fact that you want Ohio State, Penn State, and USC players to be able to get some sort of compensation from the NCAA for having wins vacated for far less than this scandal then you would be standing on firmer ground.

The Michigan kids should be allowed, and will be allowed to play out the season. Once the investigation is completed and the big ten and ncaa renders their decision, it is then possible the kids might be stripped of their accomplishments. Of course this might seem unfair for the kids, but it’s also unfair for kids of other universities, so it’s ultimately the coach, ad, and university at large will be responsible for that. It’s all together an unfortunate situation, but it needs to be dealt with slowly and fairly.

Stephen A made an excellent point honestly. You can't imply he's guilty and not punish the team. Even if they didnt know they benefited.
Implications are the jury now, which is a great way to operate moving forward.
Nobody is implying he’s guilty because there is absolutely no proof Harbaugh knew anything so this will never go anywhere. But Ohio St and Ryan Day and his brother have some answering to do in the offseason.

Michigan is America's team because of what the players do on the field. The defense could give some NFL offenses problems, Corum is one of the best RBs in football, McCarthy is the best QB in football in spite of the inflated stats in the Pac-12, and the offensive line is massive and athletic. Michigan's only missing piece is a dominant WR or two.

Jim Harbaugh was a starting QB in the NFL for the Colts and Chargers, led the 49ers to the Super Bowl and was robbed of a championship by the refs, brought Michigan back to prominence for the first time in over fifteen years, and now has an all-time team on his hands and will win the national championship despite having to deal with the NCAA and Big Ten doing everything they can to derail his season.
Paul Finebaum has never faced any of those obstacles nor does he have any of Harbaugh's accomplishments. He's just some loudmouth guy from the south.

Knowing a fastball is coming on a strike count isn’t comparable to trying to figure out signs in football with 11 guys moving for a few seconds during a play and all doing their own job. Sign stealing doesn’t matter if your team is better because they will just dominate anyway in such a physical sport. Michigan has a better O and DLine than almost anybody they play. THAT IS WHY they’re so good.

Michigan probably was good enough to go undefeated and make the CFP w/o cheating but that can’t excuse it. If you cheat on a test and it turns out you were smart enough to get a 100 anyways, that can’t change the fact that you got caught cheating. Even if all the other kids in the class weren’t good enough to get a 100, no one is going to be happy that you got a 100 while cheating, whether or not you would’ve gotten it anyways. Finebaum didn’t play or coach. I’m a high school coach of nearly 30 years and blessed to have been very successful. Predominately as a DC. I met Harbaugh in Fresno at a camp at an inner city school in which he knew not one kid was a D1 prospect and yet treated each kid as if he were the best player. He charged the school in Fresno almost nothing. He wasn’t quirky or in any negative way that media idiots and hypocrites portray him. Harbaugh treated local coaches as peers, as equals. I’ve been to countless clinics and camps by college and pro coaches and Harbaugh is by far the most genuine and attentive. It’s amusing how non athletes and non coaches pretend to understand the psychological or spiritual aspect of the gridiron, let alone the intricacies of strategy, operation, tactics and techniques. Finebaum and Cowherd and company don’t know and will never truly know football and the bond between players and coaches nor the relationships between players themselves. Did Michigan break the rules? Yep. But filming signs and signals on game day is legal and it’s gone on by everyone for ages. And it guarantees little in an edge, as we’ve multiple sets of signs and dummy signs and all usually change often. If a staff is smart. The sun with Michigan is having an agent on the opposing sideline. That’s inexcusable. No doubt. But Finebaum passes judgment on Harbaugh as if he knows 100% Harbaugh was aware as to what extreme his assistant would operate. If Harbaugh is FOUND guilty, then so be it. And the NCAA better start hammering every program. Something tells me Finebaum has political and ideological differences with Harbaugh beyond the gridiron arena. A panel with how many former players and coaches here? I rest my case. And I reiterate that Finebaum and his ilk wouldn’t know how to put on a jock let alone conduct a practice or evaluate a team in anything other than a superficial standpoint. No reply read….

To not acknowledge the accusations against ohio, Rutgers and Purdue while focusing on the accusations against Michigan is disingenuous. Jeff also saying that this is widespread is something that they all know, especially being insiders. They know plenty of dirt including pay for play schemes that have been an open secret for years. Stealing signs is legal and happens literally in every program. There are specific analysist and coaches who's whole job is to steal and decipher signs. A staffer on Michigan went above and beyond which is against the rules and he should have been fired. Michigan absolutely deserves punishment for breaking the rules but saying that they gained a competitive advantage that was enough to constitute coaching bans or expulsion from the playoffs of they beat ohio is ridiculous. This has been known across football for years which is why schools change their signs from game to game. Pretending this is why they have been dominant recently is laughable. They got rid of Don Brown and finally recruited some winners. They are proving it in the NFL, Hutchinson, Ojabo, Mazi, Dax Hill, Kwity, DJ Turner, Metellus, Bredeson, Nico Collins, Hudson , Moody , Oluwatimi , Ruiz, Uche, Thomas, etc. All Harbaugh guys starting and making plays in the NFL.

Harbaugh knows the signals, tells the players the play, and they follow the order. These are college young men, not 5 and 6 year olds. They knew it was cheating and said nothing. So Yes, they get punished too!

What knowledge do you have on how sign data is implemented in the gameplan? Do you think players rewatch the hundreds of hours of footage the scout team uses to build a sign database? You cant seriously think that? Literally nobody except the sign scouting team watches all that crap. They are simply shown random game film of a play, and what signs might tip that play off, they get literally zero info on how that team came to that conclusion. In most cases, the decrypted sign data isn't even trusted until the actual game starts and you get conformation that what you have is correct.

The point that nobody is making is that in the coaches meeting they draw up game plans, where they look over tendencies and matchups and etc. In the making of a game plan there has to be a why and how. WHY do you want to go with this scheme and game plan and HOW did you come by drawing this up. All of this is funneled through the HEAD COACH. You’ve been at the pinnacle of the sport, you know good and well the analytics and data has to be supported by what’s on film. The problem is you have the exact signage and possibly the literal verbiage of the other team’s plays, checks, and situational substitutions. Granted everybody has taken a step back this year for reloading and building chemistry with new starters and freshmen, but somehow Michigan has come out blowing the doors off of every team. With all this being said no matter if they make it to the championship game where they would without a doubt face the Georgia Bulldogs, they would still lose that game.
