I had almost forgotten the joys of packing for kids! Both of mine are 42 at the moment on the 11th one will turn 43. I'm glad your trip was enjoyable. They have a Crayola place in P.A. we were thinking of taking a couple of grand kids to....but just haven't yet. We are tipping into being too old for all day out in the sun roaming around kinda adventures.

Congratulations, Brandon! 🎉🥋 🎉 It sounds as though you had a wonderful trip! One of our best vacations was to the Denver area in Colorado. Our older son had visited my parents and they met us in Denver for an event my dad was in. We said goodbye to them and took a short, spontaneous vacation. Unfortunately, my parents took off with my son's suitcase in their car! We stopped and bought underwear and socks. He wore the same jeans every day, just shaken out and sponged off. We bought souvenir t-shirts everywhere we went, so he had clean socks, underwear and a t-shirt every day! lol. I didn't even know we were going to extend the trip! At least I could hand wash most of my clothes, and I'm a notorious over packer, lol! We were young and so much more laid-back then! You'll have great memories of this trip. Take care, Linda 🦋
Erica, you may want to consider a travel med kit if you don't have one already. I have a makeup case with 3 zippered parts and hold a variety of any medicine we could need like nasal, pain, gastro issues, etc. A little sewing kit and a variety of bandages and back up mini shampoo, lotion razors and other things I just have in case we forget. The first time we took it on vacation it proved to be such a great idea and have taken it on every trip since.

We're currently on our annual long summer trip! I have the kids pack 4 warm outfits, 4 cool outfits, 6-8 undies, 2 pjs and whatever specific things we need for activities like swim and holiday. I assume I'll be able to find a place to do laundry about every 3 days. This works for us!
We do road trips and have found that the simpler the better--a little stack of plain paper to color on and they can each bring 1 stuffie or toy. It's ok to be board, but they usually find ways to entertain themselves! Less is more!

I am kind of shocked at how much you packed. You had been much more minimal on your last trip in the car as I recall. To some degree my mind is probably a bit skewed as I travel carry-on only. I would have reversed the kids bags, clothes in the big pouch, toys etc in the front, and I know it varies by airline, but 1 carry-on, 1 personal item is pretty common I believe. I would have checked the boosters, packed 1 backpack per person and 1 carry-on for the overflow/gear, or even 1 carry-on per adult. If the backpacks happen to have a laptop sleeve, those are great spaces to put the sketch books and library books since those likely wouldn't have fit in the front pockets. Idk, just thinking out loud since you were already planning on doing laundry mid-trip.

This kind of blows my mind. Lol. Do kids always have to be doing something every minute? Can they ever have peace like we grown-ups strive for?
I remember having an activity bag for my daughter when she was young to take to restaurants, appointments, trips, etc. Keeping her occupied was better than listening to whining and crying. She was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult but I think all children do well with that type of accommodation to direct their energy in a positive way so everyone is content. My only concern while watching the video was whether the weight of the backpacks would cause any of them to complain!
Granted our kids are grown now so I'm probably in Lala land about what I would pack but the last time we took a 14 day trip with our kids who were 15 and 17 years old and we each only took one carryon bag and that was it. We stayed in a different hotel every other night traveling through Italy and Spain. Since then, we've been on many trips and we only take carryons and I usually have a personal item bag as well. It seems to me you packed a huge amount of stuff, especially liquids/creams/meds (so heavy) I'd love to know how much of it was never used and if you actually needed to do laundry on your trip. Hope you had an awesome time!
I brought too many liquids. I did my hair twice. Sunscreen is gone though so definitely needed that. I overpacked the carryons but did need to do laundry. All in all, it worked out!
@EricaLucasLoves I thought you did a great job packing and preparing backpacks to keep the kids from getting bored. You're very organized. I recently packed to be away for at least 14 days and was flying for the first time in years. It took me 4 days to pack a checked bag, a carry-on, and my purse! I think I could plan a trip for 20 easier than this took me! lol Great job! 👍
