    Here is a new tutorial. Today about rigging hydraulic pistons in CAT. There aren't many information about this around the internet, so hopefully you will find it interesting :)

    Funny how to use CAT even for a mechanical rig 👏👏👏

    Once in a while I do animations of the mechanical designs at work. It never occurred to me to use CAT. Thanks for this. I think one video that would be useful to many is a tutorial on how to animate an automotive a-arm suspension using CAT! If you want the ultimate challenge try animating a snowmobile rear suspension! I can't even fathom how to do that while making the track deform to the suspension movement.

    I appreciate the english subtitles, but you speak english better than I do, and english is my first language! lol but I do appreciate the extra effort for sure.

    You need to do more videos for this, I am a long time Max user and want to use CAT but there's an incredible lack of support for it out there, I'm most likely going to end up using Blender at this rate!

    Hi Milos, just wanted to say thanks, your channel helped me a lot in this pasty month! Is it possible to use Cat for rigging vehicles? I used this tutorial in my truck model but now I have to deal with the wheels when following a path constraint. Keep up the good work mate, cheers!

    •  Před 5 lety

      Hi Bruno. Thank you, glad you like the channel.
      Wheels, or the whole car rigs are bit more tricky. But it's the same principle of creating a hierarchy and using constraints to drive the bones. Same as you would do with regular max bones.

    Hi, interesting tutorial. I have been looking for in-depth mechanical rigging with 3dsmax standard tools and CAT. Unfortunately, these kinds of rigging courses can't be found online. At least not one that is comparable to cgmasteracademy's mechanical rigging in Maya. It's all character rigging but a mechanical rigging course which explains: controllers, IK, wire parameters, expressions, reaction manager in-depth would maybe something that could interest people. What do you think?

  • @andersonbrandaosudario3425

    Thanks for the video. For this kind of rig, can you add IK controllers?

    •  Před 5 lety +1

      Unfortunately, no. You can only add IK controllers to a Tail bone chain.
      So in this example, you would have to use Tail for creating the rig, or an Arm/Leg bone chains (which have IKs by default).
      This is one of the things I don't like about CAT.

    Keep up the great work :D. I love all your CAT tutorials. Quick question; Is it feasable/worth it to rig a face using CAT instead of traditional bones?

    •  Před 5 lety +2

      Hey Draqen.
      Yes, facial animation is possible and I would say very much worth it, as I like to animate everything in CAT if I am able.
      I will do a tutorial about that one day :)

    • @xcloudx01alt
      @xcloudx01alt Před 5 lety

    Hi sir. I am in high schools and I am planning to go to the United States or Canada to get a degree in animation and VFX after I am done with high schools. My portfolio is almost ready! Well I am just a beginner. Could you please review my portfolio and tell me what do I need to improve on and what to add next? And also could you tell me if I will get an admission or not just by looking at my portfolio? I can send you the links.
    Thanks

  • @MultiBRETTER
    @MultiBRETTER Před 5 lety

    I love all your tutorials! But here I'm stocked with some things I don't get. I was looking for a very simple hydraulic piston rig. Maybe this one is more powerful than I need. Why is CAT needed for this? Why is skinning needed here? If I could find the model on your site, maybe I'd get a better Idea of why it is good to use it here.

    •  Před 5 lety

      You are absolutely right. This can be done without CAT and even without skinning. And it's still a viable solution.
      The reason why I use CAT here is to show other people that it can be done. for the time they need to use it in a character rig for example. Let's say you have a character in some sort of a suit and you need to rig this as a part of it. If you use CAT you would want the whole rig to stay in CAT, and this is the solution of how to do it :)
      I guess I should have mention it in the video as well, when I think about it :)

    So your helpers are not connected to your geometry? alright, thats good to know!

  • @4un
    @4un Před 4 lety

    Great tut! Hey, Milos, is it fine to use mesh of object as custom mesh of a bone? As I see, you always use cubes for bones..

    •  Před 4 lety

      Hey Dmitry, yes it is completely fine to use custom meshes. I don't just because it's extra work and it doesn't benefit me very much personally. I also use 'display as box' option for the bones, to have just the edges visible and that would change the custom meshes back to boxes anyway. So I have no need for custom ones.

    • @4un
      @4un Před 4 lety

      thanks for fast reply! so i will use custom meshes, for better visualization

    • @4un
      @4un Před 4 lety

      @ oh, i have one more issue here.. after I skinned bones and mesh, and im starting to animate bones, and viewport goes to 10 fps.. if i disable mesh and work only with bones, fps come back to 100.. do you know why? :)

    • @4un
      @4un Před 4 lety

      i tried also with dino bird from your webpage, viewport still around 10 fps.. how it is possible to animate and watch animation in real time with mesh. For me only solution is to animate in 3d max cat bones, and if i want to see animation result with mesh and textures i need to export in in unreal

    • @4un
      @4un Před 4 lety

      and for last test i downloaded your model lighthouse keeper with idle animation, pressed play and i get 5 fps 😣 made all meshes invisible - 25 fps.. too low, even just with bones.. disabled scene explorer, 30 fps.. its too low fps for simple model like this and my pc is intel xeon 56 cores, 2080 ti.. im using max 2021.2

  • @jayjaygolden5123
    @jayjaygolden5123 Před 3 lety

    wouldve liked to see the skinning honestly...
