i like to think that hero is secretly very soft at heart like soft for children and animals bc his mother was soft hearted and maybe hero looks a lot like his mom and alex looks like their dad and hero and their dad didn’t get along bc hero was more gentle and thoughtful about other creatures and so he picked alex over hero to teach about fighting and hero did learn how to fight later on just not when he was younger (thats just a theory thooo)
