The description you used about the travelers notebook feeling like a book really resonated with me. You put into words how I feel about mine. It’s “my book” my life, my year, my month, my ideas, my goals, my way. It’s my life in my little book.
When you explained that there could be too much compartmentalization, I was so glad I'm not the only one. I was thinking of using a binder but I knew I would divide every little thing and probably even use organizing my sections as a way to procrastinate. I really do enjoy having things in their own place and with the travelers notebook I have the separation but it won't get too complicated or overwhelming.
That morbid comment was not as nearly morbid as you think it sounds...that is one of the main reasons I plan...if something were to happen to me tomorrow, Josh could pick up my planner and know exactly what was going on...my kids could pick it up and read memories, notes and see what my life was like!! Those things are important!! I totally get it!!!
I'm starting to feel left out for loving my A6 rings😪😊. I bought a TN insert and found it difficult to write on the small pages. I'd rather open the rings if I can't write around them. I especially love being able to change things up more easily.
I’m in a recollections planner currently but moving to a B6 TN on the first of the year...for all of the reasons you mentioned!! Good video thank you!!! Would it be ok if I gave you a shoutout on my channel??
I snip the holes so that I can pull out a page to write and or switch placement. I enjoy planning in rings and journaling in travelers notebooks. Thank you for this video!
I went back to rings for 2020 and looking forward to it. I also have a Hobo Weeks, which I love! Thank you so much for taking your time to explain both!
Totally get what you mean by feel! I love the physicality of my standard TN. I love how it fits in my hand and how the leather cover molds around the inserts. When I’m stressed, especially at work, I find myself rubbing the cover to sooth myself! LOL!
I'm with you back in the day I loved rings. But for me I learned my planning style and where I wanted things to go. The TN is less hassle than lose pages also I must have been rough but I would stretch out my holes or rip the page. The paper feels loosey-goosey if that makes sense in rings. Like you said I like the book feel. I have my old ring binder as my house binder where I do need more tabs and flexibility of moving or taking out pages. It was fun thinking about the days of rings but you do forget sometimes why you made the switch. Love the video as always 🤗
I suggest starting with a basic bullet system. There is a very easy system that uses symbols and lists to help keep your life organized. Alot of bullet journaling has turned into a creative outlit, but the original bullet system is extremely functional and a great way to start using in a tn.
Having been in rings long ago and trying rings/coil/disks/BJ over the past few years, I have been in a Leuchturrm A5 since one book July and I TOTALLY get what you mean about not wanting things separated. It really helped me through the Fall to see what I wanted to add back in. I've also been back in a Cousin A5 the past couple months also and am playing with what I want in each of those. And I've added a standard TN, inserts planned: weekly overview/task list, cooking/baking, garden. I'm still figuring out where/how dailies will be (TN or Hobo). I'm being mindful of planning vs. recording.
With rings, and fighting with them while writing, you can put a notebook or something under the pages to raise them up closer to the ring height. Or move your most used, current pages to the centre of the binder, making the page stacks the same height and easier to write across. That being said, I do prefer a bound book with a supplement insert of months that can go in my purse. I like the notebook bullet journal because it all stays together. I don’t have to think about how to store stacks of inserts or loose leaf pages afterwards. Just date the spine and put it on the shelf. I always try to keep one monthly planner that’s just the months updated, then when/if I change systems I can make a note in that month like “dailies in blue rings...” or whatever. Sort of like bujo threading. Makes it easier to find related information if needed later on.
bought 2 jenny penton books....2020 and Notes....they are so much 'fatter' than the tomoe river inserts I am used to, but have watched a lot of your videos and was/am inspired!! only a few more days of older inserts and I am excited to try those two. to start. They replace my Hobonichi weeks with tiny space for everything...and after nearly 3 years of those I will be back to regular TN freedom!!! thanks!!!
I'm going into a hobonichi a6 techo. Last year I tried A5 but I hate heavy handbags, so I tried A6. I also love day to a page! The only downside is that it looks too much like a notebook... I like my planners to look like planners! Currently trying to think of ways to make it look more planner-y! :) Thanks for the video! I always enjoy yours!
My edc is and has been an A6 or pocket but my home book is an A5 but lately I’ve been finding it to heavy to carry around or pick up ( I have arthritis in my hands) so I’m going into standard size notebooks. I can’t do rings being left handed. But you’re right the feel of the book in your hands, especially now the standard size, it’s great. I carry my travelers notebook all around the house now. Lol.
I love to write. So, I find traveler's notebooks to fit that style better. The rings and spirals work better when I just need to just plan and schedule for work.
AuntTambo - I am going to try! I ordered a chic sparrow notebook last week that holds the weeks and has a string too so I can add an insert - hoping this will work for me! Now just playing the waiting game until it gets here...
Interesting video. I keep thinking I should move into rings again (It's more logical for future planning and not having to move information from journal to journal) but can't get excited about it. I'm currently bullet journaling in a B5 Moleskine and it just works for me even though it's too big to carry everywhere. Funny how even if something isn't really the best option it can be more important that "it feels right".
Best comparison video! 🙌 The printing and cutting paper for rings is very annoying to me. I love the flexibility of rings and want to love them but....😬 Can you do an updated setup video of your planner?
I’m glad it was helpful ❤️ Stay tuned for September when school starts again and summer vacay is over and I’ll definitely be sharing my updated set up!
If it’s not avail now, it probably will be soon- it seems like planners are being made everywhere now. Which is great when we want something specific like that 💕
I love aura Estelle hybrids!!! Best of both worlds, but I prefer rings and I’m picky about closures. I love snap closure trying to force myself to like elastic closure cause I love pelle studio’s but im not feeling the closure
I'm a coil girl. I had an A5 it was ok but I wasn't loving it, I tried travelers notebooks and Just couldn't be bothered with all the different books and no tabs and I felt lost. I rather have one book or binder. I recently tried an Erin Condren Life Planner and fell in love and don't see me going back to the A5 at all. I like the look of a TN but I just can't. I'm an EC girl. Love the video!
I really love the feel of a bound notebook but I like the look en some seperation so travelers notebook is the way for me! I get what you say about the size changing, it is really hard I find, to find your size. For 2020 I am using a cahier size (or moleskine large) and this is basically a a5 slim. I think I will enjoy this size since it doens't feel so big as a5 but still has the same height and is wider than the regular which i find a little bit too narrow.
I am just not a rings fan. The rings get in the way when writing and is too bulky of you use big rings which I need to house everything. I much prefer the lighter TN.

Haha, ok good.

Rings is always going to have a special place in my heart 💕 You can definitely change things up so much easier.
I also love that when I finish a notebook within my tn I can store it all in one. I don’t like all the loose paper from a rings
It is easier to store books rather than paper, that’s for sure.
I just got the Aura Estelle B6 rings and strings hybrid for 2020! I found that I love both so much I could never decide between the 2.
You said it perfectly...that’s the season I’m in right now!! “My life is like spaghetti” perfection!!
I’m in a recollections planner currently but moving to a B6 TN on the first of the year...for all of the reasons you mentioned!! Good video thank you!!! Would it be ok if I gave you a shoutout on my channel??
Oh fun, I love trying new systems. I hope you really enjoy!
Absolutely feel free to share; thank you so much.
I agree! When she said that I was like, I know exactly what she means!
I snip the holes so that I can pull out a page to write and or switch placement. I enjoy planning in rings and journaling in travelers notebooks. Thank you for this video!
I remember doing that, now that you mention it. ☺️

I love it 😆
Great video!! I've wanted to see a video about rings vs. strings for a long time, I am glad you tackled it!
I couldn’t believe I hadn’t put it into a video yet 🤷♀️

So much yes 😆
I love both. I use a bullet journal and rings. :)
I’ve been wanting a travelers notebook, so I’ve been watching videos about them trying to learn how to use them.

I just bought an inexpensive TN on Amazon. I decided to use for goal setting. I’m liking it so far.
Having been in rings long ago and trying rings/coil/disks/BJ over the past few years, I have been in a Leuchturrm A5 since one book July and I TOTALLY get what you mean about not wanting things separated. And an A5 Filofax for reference stuff and other stuff that I access infrequently.

Great tips and advice!! Thanks for sharing.

It’s so fun to carry it around 😆 Only we planner people get it.
I love to write. So, I find traveler's notebooks to fit that style better. The rings and spirals work better when I just need to just plan and schedule for work.
Yes to loving the feel of the notebook!!! I'm trying to use a Hobonichi Weeks but miss my TN already!
Tammy Werking Can you put your weeks into your TN? Maybe best of both worlds?
AuntTambo - I am going to try! I ordered a chic sparrow notebook last week that holds the weeks and has a string too so I can add an insert - hoping this will work for me! Now just playing the waiting game until it gets here...
That’s a great idea! I hope it works out.
I'm super torn between a pocket planner and a passport size travelers journal I mostly want them as a wallet

You did a great job. It’s not working for me to break everything down. So combing thing’s seems a better way right now. Thanks
Best comparison video! 🙌

I love the rings and the TN, wish I could find a wide A5 that have both.
If it’s not avail now, it probably will be soon- it seems like planners are being made everywhere now. Which is great when we want something specific like that 💕
Hey I think aura estelle just came out with an A5 wide with rings and strings :)
@@hannahplannedit2101 I'll check it out, Thanks.
I love aura Estelle hybrids!!! Best of both worlds, but I prefer rings and I’m picky about closures. I love snap closure trying to force myself to like elastic closure cause I love pelle studio’s but im not feeling the closure
Yes, the closure was hard to adjust to at first when I moved from rings to strings.

So glad you found your planner peace!!
I am in love with your gray pen. Can you tell me where to get that?
The grey pen is actually a highlighter called a Mildliner. You can buy them at Target or Walmart, or order online at amazing or jetpens.com 💕
I am LOVING those dividers with the coffee theme .... where did you get them ??? 🤩🤩
Sadly the shop closed and no longer is on Etsy 😩😩😩
Where did you get your travelers notebook?
It is from foxyfix.com ☺️

That sounds like a perfect solution. I hope it goes well for you 💕
Rennie Plans That’s a nice size 👌
Rennie Plans That’s the size I use and it is perfect for me. Plenty of room on the page but still not too big.
@@queenp7268 I really love it too! It is so perfect!
Ring planner I make my own planner
Very nice 😊

kymochoa12 I agree!!
