After the western, central and eastern Bhutan was united in 16th century, it became a regional power that influenced Sikkim, northeast India till Ladakh. It defeated Tibet in all its attack and even when they brought the Mongols with them in their final attack. It fought with Mughal empire and also the British. It maybe small but it was badass to take on all those big powers. The political manuevering through those times was done very well by the leaders.

24:40 Yes Bhutan should remain an independent state; as an Indian I believe Bhutan is the last remaining Himalayan Shangri-La & Bhutan will remain so if Bhutan is supported by India 2 continue as an independent country with all kinds of Indian support ; economic, diplomatic, cultural & most importantly military support. Otherwise if Bhutan gets merged with India then it's salient features as the last remaining pristine Himalayan Kingdom (Shangri-La) would be comprised. So the present arrangements with India vis-e-vis Bhutan is the best mechanism..
