I plan on purchasing an apartment here in KL when MM2H finally returns and have actually looked at a few; much like the rentals, many if not most of the apartments for sale are advertised as furnish (including furniture, not just kitchens). I've also done a bit of furniture window shopping (no buying!)... I've found it fun to go to the Home Expos that seem to show up at least once a month at the malls and the convention centers.

Go to a toy store and get the cheap polystyrene or hard foam type large jigsaw puzzle tiles for toddlers. Cats love them and will reduce damage to your furniture etc.
Most tenants doesn't take care of owner's furniture which resulted in damages when they stopped renting. The tenant would then claim the damages are the result of normal wear and tear which is very hard for the owner to prove otherwise. Speaking from experience as an owner. Furnished properties fetch a higher rent but with consequence.

Typically, locals aim to rent out to expatriates who are posted for a few years on a work permit or employment pass. Those people don't bring furniture in tow (like you, they're probably renting out their residence back home) so the idea is to provide furniture like in a service apartment. Problem is, most times they buy crappy stuff and asking a landlord to move it out after they spent money and then have to store at additional cost is a problem. In Singapore, trick is to find a new launch and engage the owner before they furnish it. Saves them money, allows you to negotiate a lower rent and the ability to furnish it any way you want. Love your posts and v nice setup in your apt!

Thank you so much for this video. I had wondered about furnishing an apartment in KL. I looked into a few in my last visits, and I am unsure if I believe the building management on claims about durability or quality for that matter. Sadly the aesthetics ranged from garish to boring. And very little else in between. It is very much like in the US, all walls and floor carpeting in rental units are beige/white and very little else.
I sent my dogs back x2 times for repairs at Harvey norman under warranty ,3vrd time not covered ..then I got them all reinforced etc for a fee to make it last ....

I have a 3 seat gray microfiber couch nearly identical to yours, but I wanted more versatility. I bought it with a matching ottoman so if/when I get tired of the room layout I can change the "L" arrangement from right to left or use it as coffee table by having a thick piece of tempered glass custom cut to fit the ottoman top. The orange accents really makes you living room stand out. Have you hung any of your own created artworks? I appreciate your design aesthetic & enjoyed this video. Thanks Taylor !!
About the unfurnished apartments.. Usually it comes down to preference. Some tenants who are planning to stay long term, they could prefer to have their own furnitures. Makes the house feels like home, i suppose. Fully furnished apartment are maybe better for short term lease or maybe the tenants are not thinking of staying for more than a year. But then again.. That's just my opinion on it..

I think you should have something furniture for ur cats to scratch with. I mean look at cat store & it's rug (for cat exercise /scratch.. 🙂 - you're in professional homes designer level..
Another great video. IF you didn't sell your couch - would they have hauled your old one away? Most places in the US will do that. For custom orders - the US takes a long time - probably 2 months. Another question - why do you refer yourself by your last name? How do you prefer to be addressed (Andrew, Taylor or another name)?

Do you happen to have a full size vertical scratching post for the cat? After I bought one, my cat stopped scratching the furniture. :) Just a thought.

And if I can repurpose somebody's unwanted stuff and help their pocketbook out, I say "Let me see what ya got and let's talk." I had a landlord that kept my total deposit, rm 4,000 for damage to a 13 year old sofa. 🙄

Actually for most Malaysians, we rent apartment or houses unfurnished. Probably when you are an expat, you look for furnished apartment.
But most still furnished!
