Loved the analysis of the dev team vs higher ups dichotomy. The devs are almost always the MOST passionate people about these games, and oftentimes all they need is a bit more time and money to make something great.

If I remember. Ed O’Bannon main complaint wasn’t about video games but jersey sales. He saw people on campus wearing his jersey and never made a cent.
The articles i read said it was first brought to his attention with the video game, and from my sources the lawsuit was centered around name image and likeness in broadcasts and video games. Im sure he wasnt too hapoy about the school selling #31 jerseys in reference to him, but i didnt find that anywhere in my research. Good question though.
In light of this, it makes complete sense why outfitters stopped producing jerseys of star players and opted for more generic number choices (e.g. #1). Around the time of the lawsuit Michigan was still selling #16 (Denard Robinson), #98 (Devin Gardner), and #77 (Taylor Lewan) jerseys in large quantities at MDen. The last year under adidas, they appeared to stop releasing other player numbers and only had #1 and #4 (for Jim Harbaugh). That continued when the school switched to Nike/Jordan. Since then more numbers have become available again, coincidentally just as NIL became a thing 🙃

As soon as I saw that Bill Walsh College Football screen come up I knew it was going to be a good video. That's where it all started for my old ass. I had played Tecmo Bowl and Super Tecmo on Nintendo, but BWCFB was our introduction to having college football in a game!
