  • Tucker and Jeff came together to discuss Ozone's latest addition to their wing lineup-the Ozone Flux V1 Wing. They started with their initial impressions of this wing, which is a deviation from Ozone's previous models. Historically, Ozone's designs have been considered middle of the road, with the V2 being a notable improvement from V1 and the V3 as a slight modification of V2. However, the new wing presents a shift towards high performance, targeting users interested in racing, high-speed riding, and power gliding.
    During testing, the team was particularly impressed with the wing's speed, especially in racing and jumping contexts. They observed that the wing handled well even when powered up, functioning efficiently in both high and low wind conditions. When driving upwind, the wing demonstrated above-average performance, and the team felt it was notably fast.
    The construction of the wing also played a pivotal role in its performance. Its design emphasizes speed with its quick profile, low drag, and efficient upwind. It incorporates innovative materials, diverging from the standard canopy to a premium canopy with varying weights. This results in a longer-lasting shape and better resistance to deformation.
    The frame of the wing is designed with a light, stiff material similar to Duotone SLS, making it durable and efficient. Another remarkable feature of the wing is its handles. They're strategically positioned to align the user's wrists with their forearms for more comfortable usage. Additionally, there's a soft covering on the handles, which makes them user-friendly. The handles have a unique locking mechanism that secures them when the strut is inflated. Overall, the team's review was positive, praising the wing's stability, smoothness, and performance, especially in challenging conditions.

    Had a few goes on the Flux 5m - solid and stable power, fast, amazing upwind performance and feels great in the hands. All that while being nicely light and great in the waves using the surf handle. Overall super impressed - nice one Ozone!

    Hey Tucker, we chatted a couple months ago and you recommended the Unit or Flux for me in Maui. I tried both and went with the a 3.0 and 4.5 Flux. I love them. They go up wind great and flag well on a wave. The range is amazing. I’ve been out on the 3 when it was averaging under 17 and when it was averaging over 30. It handles lulls and gusts amazingly. Because of that I went with 2 wings rather than 3. The handles are the best I’ve tried, especially because I like to pistol grip the front handle. The construction seems really solid and I expect the durability to be significantly better than my Cabrinhas that feel apart in a year. The only thing I don’t like is the LE handle which isn’t stiff enough for me. Thanks again for your advice.

    Amazing detail in the review! Really wish somebody compare it to the new 2024 Duotone unit, not the 2023

      The Flux and Unit are pretty different although the 2024 D/lab does make it a little more similar. The Unit has more grunt and lift while the Flux has more forward traction. Not as much as the Mode pro but more comparable to the Slick D/lab. Flux has more top end range and upwind ability vs. the Unit. Luffs similar to the standard unit but a little more stable IMHO. - Tucker

    Thanks guys. V nice review. How does it compare with North Mode?

      Great question, my friend. 🤙🏽 The Ozone Flux represents a shift from their traditional "middle of the road" offerings, focusing on a high-performance design suitable for racing, high-speed riding, and power gliding. This new wing features innovations in materials, transitioning from a standard canopy to a premium one, and emphasizes speed and efficient upwind driving as its standout attributes.
      On the other hand, the North Mode Wing emphasizes broad usability. It caters to a wide spectrum of riders, from novices to professionals. Key features of the North Mode Wing include a leading edge handle, an XL strut, dual inflation valves, and a novel, lightweight material distinct from Dacron. The feedback from users underscores its stability, comfort, and balance, though there is a desire for more size variations.
      Both wings promise high performance at competitive price points, though they seem to cater to slightly different audience needs and preferences. Hope this helps. Good winds! -Aaron

    Rode 5m yesterday in max 33 knots gusts 2,5 meter waves, still behaved impeccably well. I weigh 82 kg myself. Perfect in surf, best tacking wing I’ve ever used.

    @MACkiteboarding Hmmm, ok... sounds a race wing. Howsabout best wing for bumps, waves with low end grunt for big guys? Been on and fairly happy with 2022 Units, but they're getting bagged out- looking to redo quiver.

      I just bought 7m Ozone Fly for my lightwind setup. The low end grunt is very good. I just rode it in 8-9knots with North HA1050 foil. Before I got the Fly v1 I used F-one Strike CWC 6M as my light wind wing and sometimes when it is very light it not easy to take off with that foil because you need to get above the stall speed. But the 7m Fly is much easier compare to the Srike. And it is a lot cheaper too.

    Dear friends at MACkiteboarding
    Thanks for this review.
    As this wing appears to me to have a more 'high profile' kind of shape, how does this Ozone Flux compare to the Strike III?
    Do you need to adapt your pumping skills in a similar way, to get on foil with little wind... ?

    • @MACkiteboarding
      @MACkiteboarding  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The Flux has a bit more lift than the Strike, it's also stiffer, so I find its easier to get on foil and more "true to size". -Tucker

    • @RonKolijn
      @RonKolijn Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@MACkiteboarding
      I ask so since I own a Strike III and still struggle to adapt to this 'new pumping technique'. I need to be almost overpowered in order to take off, but then on foil, I could really do with less m2 of sail in my hands. So now I'm doubting to maybe switch to a Flux... or continue a bit more on the Strike III to finally nail that new pump...

    • @MACkiteboarding
      @MACkiteboarding  Před 8 měsíci

      @@RonKolijn It could be a board issue if you are riding a low volume board or something short/wide which struggles to build speed.

    What wing would you say is the best for surfing waves that still has great upwind capabilities?

    • @MACkiteboarding
      @MACkiteboarding  Před 10 měsíci +2

      The Ocean Rodeo AA glide for sure but if you don't have that kind of budget, the new Strike V3 is quite good as well.

    • @MACkiteboarding

      @@karinam9427 The Swing is more grunty for new riders or those wanting to ride a smaller wing. It's slower and not as good upwind. -Tucker

    Has anyone sprayed a wing with a hydrophobic coating? I think that would be a great application of the tech.

    • @MACkiteboarding
      @MACkiteboarding  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes, I have and it works well. Keeps the wing lighter since it doesn't absorb as much water and protects it from the elements for a longer life. It does take a good amount to do a whole wing and you'll need to re-apply occasionally so you might consider a couple of bottles. - Tucker
