    Fifteen years ago, I was high on pot walking through the mall with some friends and we smelt cinnamon rolls. Followed the smell which led us to Macy's where they were demonstrating a Zojirushi Bread Maker. Walked out with $300.00 less when I bought it. Fast forward to now, it still sits on my counter popping out one great loaf after another. Also use it to bake pound cakes, jams. Well worth the investment.

    I’ve been using a really cheap bread maker for 7 years now. Originally the loaves were pretty heavy but still far better than shop bought bread.
    Nowadays I have adjusted the ingredients and mixed up the different flours that I use and achieve fantastic soft aerated bread that is just delicious. Occasionally I buy a loaf in a shop and never fail to wish I hadn’t.

    I've been using a Panasonic bread maker for over 24 years. I'm on my 2nd one as I wore the first one out. They are almost indescribable and very consistent with results. Yes they are more expensive but they won't fall apart like the cheap ones.

      Does a bread maker exist which can make bread from 2kg of whole wheat berries made into flour ?

      None "fall apart". What can happen is rusting of the paddle spindle and bearing. I don't read any comparisons between the mechanical quality.

    Just made another loaf from our Panasonic machine we received as a wedding gift from my Mother (God rest her soul). Our wedding was August 7, 1993. You do the math.

    I bought a higher end £200 odd bread maker from Panasonic ten years ago. I have used it every other day since. I worked out the machine paid for itself in six months. I love my machine. I'm interested in Panasonic technology and like the new functionality of testing the room temp in the new Panasonics. The rest period gets the flour to correct temp. The automatic yeast dispenser is useful on a delayed time. So yeast does not react ahead of time.

      Only half of the user continue with their machine, so I bought mine second hand at half the price, paid itself back in 2 months.

    The Rapid programme on the Panasonic does a simple loaf in 2hrs, there's also an Italian recipe (also 2hrs) which uses olive oil instead of butter and sugar which tastes great.

    Many years ago, I had a Panasonic but found it lacked flexibility. I wanted to allow a nice slow rise.
    And I grew to dislike the smell of the faster fermentations - which you also get in many bakeries.
    Now I do all my bread preparation by hand - and it really doesn't take much time or effort. Then bake in my air fryer. For small quantities such as I need, it it fantastic and uses far less electricity than the oven.

    I will give you a hint how to make the cheap bread maker produce exactly the same result. Put the ingredients in the right order - liquids, then flour, then yeast. Also sift your flour... Bread making machines are very simple devices, and any of them can make a basic bread. If you have issues, most likely it's just incompetence. I've used a couple of cheap bread makers, and never had as bad result as yours...

      I agree with these tests that they pretty much think about it on the day. Surely with the Murphy Richards all you need to do is after the dough needing has finished start again for however long you need. The only issue between the final test was that the morphe Richards didn't have a long enough kneading program. Obviously it's nice to have a convenience for the Panasonic but if you are making speciality bread you're hardly likely to be out of the house. Maybe the same goes for the initial rise of the first loaf as well maybe just needs a little bit longer than the programs. It's crazy how these have gone up, I remember the premier panasonic used to be about £100, some years ago.

    Panasonic bought 12 years ago, still putting out great loaves. Paul Hollywood rated the older version on this same show with the same presenter years ago, and he was shocked how good it was and couldn't really fault it. Blind tests on the High Street rated it more or less as good as his handmade loaf. I'd highly recommend a Panasonic model. The timer is awesome too. Waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread on the weekend is wonderful.

    I have a Panasonic bread maker for making gluten free bread and it does a pretty good job. It bakes big loaves and the GF setting seems to work with the mix I use. Biggest issue with mine, is the blade is baked into the bread and has to be extracted with a chopstick. Making gluten free anything is a dark art and the best GF flours actually contain wheat starch which is < 20ppm gluten so they bake and smell like bread. There are some good Italian bread mixes but most of the stuff in the supermarket isn't that good.

    The initial mix and kneading i do in a stand mixer. After covering the bowl for a while to prove, 5mins of increasing to knock it back, before a second rise in a warm oven, then crank ut up to cook it. This is for sourdough bread. It sounds time consuming, but most of the time is proving/cooking. I'm not convinced but the 'time saving' claims of these machines. I used to make yeast based bread using one, but it was pretty ordinary stuff that came out and not significantly less faff than the machine

    Older Panasonic here. Amazing bread for the last 10 years. Went to a thrift store and saw the same model almost new looking and bought it for $20. Best 20 bucks I ever spent

      haha I just posted something similar. I have a SD 253 still going strong after many years and a spare in storage that I found at a second hand store at a similar price to yours.
      What a bargain.

    I started with a cheap maker now have the same Panasonic in the vid game changer if you want to make bread every so often then buy cheap if your doing weekly like i do the see above :)

    There are other models in the current Panasonic range which are much cheaper and have the same programmes used in this testing to make the loaf and the Brioche. Why did the gadget show pick the most expensive Panasonic to compare with the Morphy Richards when they could have done the same thing with the Panasonic SD R2530 which is £60 cheaper, or the Panasonic SD YR2550 which is £40 cheaper?

    One important factor for all bread is the quality of the flour. Canadian bread flour always gives better results than cheap supermarket flour. My Panasonic bread maker is the best kitchen gadget I have ever purchased, it always gives consistently good results.

    I had a panaso if bread maker for years. Brilliant. Recently purchased a Murphy Richards and was very disappointed so sent it back. Can't afford a panasonic so hand make bread. Thankyou it's just what I thought.

    I have had a Panasonic SD253 for `15 yrs. It's pretty much the same as the one tested in functionality & still going strong.
    I was also lucky enough to find the exact same model in a second hand store for just a few dollars so have a fully functional replacement in storage, good to go if ever needed.

      They're "pink pralines". It's almonds cooked in pink caramelized sugar

    I have owned 2 Morphy Richards budget bread makers and thought they were great but then I bought the Panasonic and what a difference it made, there's no going back for me.

    I think you really needed to also make the breads by hand, to show which is the best way. I have a medium line automatic bread maker and .... I use the bread maker in winter as a proofer more than anything else.

    After seeing the beadmaker recipes nearly all required milk powder, I just went on to make my bread by hand.
    All I now need is a scale, mixing bowl and oven and have les to clean up.
    I could not even give away my Panasonic machines, so they went to charity.

    Totally agree, I have the top of range Panasonic bread maker and absolutely love it. Used to have the Sunbean top of range, which lasted faithfully for thirty years. This new Panasonic is the bees knees 😆

    I bought a panasonic last year. Initially, mine came out just like the panasonic one in this video. Now, same recipe, same program, and the loaf now doesn't seem to rise as well and comes out like the budget loaf.

      This happened to me as well. In my case all I needed was new yeast. Easy bake yeast does not keep long once the tin has been opened. I now use sachets rather than a tin.

      ​@@jonroue7214 I agree that the sachets are preferable. You can also keep yeast in the freezer to dramatically extend the shelf life.

    Gosh, just buy a heavy cast iron pot from ikea and make your own sourdough. I struggle to see the benefits with these machines.. what are you saving here?

    Why would you not test like with like i.e. two breadmakers in the same price range, rather than a top of the line vs a budget model? I'm looking at buying one now and I want to see reviews for two comparable models.

    Ridiculous! The difference in price evaluated on the basis of a particular recipe that is not even an everyday loaf of bread! There is no comparison of the quality of the two machines. Which, for example, is heavier? That could indicate better materials used, more steel, less plastic, or a higher powered motor and more rugged gears and belt drive. Are the two bake pans of equal quality? Have the paddle spindles and bearings been compared? Do the cases become equally hot to the touch, or is one better insulated from the baking heat? Are the warrantees equally protective of the consumer?

    I went thrift store shopping in the US, as I'm American. I bought one used for $15 USD which is roughly £12 depending on whose counting.
    I dont know which brand but the price was good. They can be expensive new depending on what you are looking for.

      @@davidbrooks9576Still the same product. Quality and performance. They used to be made in Japan but the machine hasn’t changed. Panasonic obviously has high quality control. Japanese are the absolute best for gadgets that actually work properly.
      Panasonic invented breadmakers and they do it best, in my experience of owning breadmakers over the years.

    I really do not understand why people waste money buying bread making machines when its so damn easy to make bread these days with the instant yeast you can buy. You don't even need to knead it.

      @@matthewvanrensburg3824 True, but instead of actually being in the kitchen all the time you can just load up the breadmakers with the ingredients, and go away. Read a book, go shopping, play fortnite, etc. And after a few hours the bread is ready. Especially useful for people who are bad at baking/cooking and have two left hands.
