They even planned to use it into the 90's with ERA with a laser rangefinder as well as thermals. they were forced to retire it by the army as they were introducing the improved M60A3 and M1 Abrams. I can only imagine a reality where desert storm had M103 in combat.
This actually almost happened. It was named M103-SS, with not Just ERA armor, but It also was equipes with 1gen thermal sights, rangefinder, Gun 2 plane stabilizer and even a New Gun: The 120mm Gun from The Abrams, with The M900 APFSDS, that pens 542mm.
It probably wouldn't have done very well in DS-1, it wouldn't have a good fire control system and an IR searchlight for night fighting would put it just about on par with the Iraqi tanks it would have been fighting. Sometimes you have to let the things you love go, just like the US army doesn't use the M1 Garand anymore.
The whole reason for two piece 90mm ammo was that it was actually easier to reload. Otherwise the rounds are so long that handling them insde the turret was very difficult. So if anything, the T32 should have a faster reload than the Super Pershing. It's kinda the same with the T-44-122. They used one piece 122mm shells in order to store more ammunition but handling those shells actually made the RoF a lot worse than on the IS-2 with two piece ammo.

DIsclaimer if you think about buying the F-89B: It absolutely LOVES to rip its wings in hard turns, you WILL rip in it if you constantly keep your afterburners on, so maybe go easy on it, and don't forget the air brake, its super useful.
The M48 should really have a faster reload speed. It has a huge turret, much bigger than the M47, so having it reload in 5sec (which it could IRL) like the Vickers would make it substantially better, at least at long range over the M47.
Also the M48A2 needs to go to 7.3 or 7.7. Or the M48 needs to go to 7.0. Its straight up bull shit that Germany gets a straight upgrade to an American tank at a lower BR. Edit: If they did get the fast reload they should both stay at 7.3. 7.7 is abit too much since there would be directly better tanks like the Vickers MBT.
@@resistivewig610 I unlocked the ammunition pretty quickly. After they buffed large caliber APCR, the round is quite decent. Which is funny because they removed APCR from the Jgpz 4-5 but after the buff it’s certainly better than 90mm HESH.
I actually don't know why the German M48 is 7.0 if the American and Chinese M48s are 7.3 while being LITERALLY THE SAME. Hell, the C actually gets side skirts and a stronger engine while weighing slightly more (but the engine strength makes a net increase in hp/t). It is RETARDED.

1:04:18 One thing you forgot to mention about the T95 is its roof mounted .50 cal has roughly 80 degrees of elevation and nearly 360 degrees of rotation so if someone is flying straight at you with bombs its not very difficult to shoot them down
For the next one, it would be pretty neat if you also include a short segment on how to grind through the rank, which tanks to research first and which ones to save to get later. I know you do sometimes mention this in the overview of each tank, but a standalone segment showing the best/most effective way to grind through each rank would be awesome
Another thing to mention that I’m not sure Oxy is considering; the actual grind. I went for the M48 because I’d still have to unlock it, even if I went for the M47, and then it’d set me back a few months of idle play. Same to the M60; I feel like it just makes for easier grinding since it’s at a higher BR and can research the 8.0 tanks a little better.
When he gives the "get it" or "consider it" option I usually think of it as spending the silver lions to crew it cause yes you still need to buy the tank but considering crew training costs on rank 4 and above there are tanks I buy but do not crew simply because they are too similar to the last one or not worth actually playing in my opinion
I’m still very upset that the M48 is the only members of its family that gets the backing breach armor. The M60 is missing it, iirc the M47 might have had it, and I know all the variants of the M60 should have it, too. It’s a minor thing, but it’d make them way more defensive against jank shots and APHE.
The T32 and T32E1 suffer from Gaijin's refusal to take US ammunition issues seriously. The T50E1 would make them more reliable at fighting vehicles in their BR range. The T43 should be significantly better at penetrating sloped armor. The T44 is still under performing significantly. Gaijin's refusal to address these issues, while also pushing for a light/medium meta, mean both T32s are dead tanks.
Just completing 7.3 here so perfect timing. Was genuinely struggling to understand some of these M tanks so this helps me tremendously Tom. Many thanks for your ongoing efforts!
The good thing in 7.7s is that they avoid the 9.0 premium dumping! One of the main reason I picked up the Magach after i had a decent experience in the Italian M60A1 and the lineup it has. 7.7 is a popular BR, many nations has a lineup on it and even on the next meta 8.3 BR most of these tanks still do fine.

The one thing I think you could touch on more is how the vehicles fair against ATGM's since we see absolutely massive amounts of them at this BR and up. The ability to tank ATMG's is the M103's biggest advantage and the only reason I can still use in uptiers ime. But overall very good, as per usual.

Everyone appreciates good War Thunder advice as well :3 I can already tell that US Rank 6 is going to be fun to watch and I'm okay with it being 2 hours long or even longer than that. It's quite nice to learn about things that I could've missed grinding through the US tech tree from your vids.
I know a lot of people have mixed opinions on the T32 but I absolutely love it. It’s in that class of vehicles which I really like playing, which is mobile heavy tanks with good guns, but I feel like the reload is a pro for me. My problem is I always end pushing forward and dying because I over extend, but these long reload tanks force me to play more conservatively and in a weird way it helps, it did get me my third nuke after all. I just love tanks like this!
I totally abandoned the line with the M47 before getting the M26, instead focusing on the MBT line that culminates in the Abrams. I have the Magach 3, so I knew what the M48/60 were like and assumed the M47 was a different turret but more of the same thing. After watching this video, I realize the M47 is more like an armored M41A1, which is one of my favorite tanks in the game. Nimble, fast turret, great round, good reload. I will be researching up to the M47 next to create a killer lineup with the heavies as backups.

I play the 7.7 M60 at times, and i actually love this vehicle. I can't exactly disagree with oxy's points, but from my personal experience this tank's amazing. I use it as a backup for the T95E1 (I still don't have the M60A1) and as main vehicle for an occasional 7.7 lineup

A thing about the M103s APBC shell, it doesnt do reliably well on angled armor because the ricochet chance for APBC is higher than APCBC, because the extra cap on APCBC allows for better performance against angled armor. So APCBC will pen what APBC will have a harder time with. Just food for thought Oxy. Great video though, i havent played my american lineup in a hot minute cause ive been too busy with germany so i need to get into it, and these videos are giving me tips on their playstyles before i jump back into 6.7 america and 7.0 america
some of the best videos on this subject, and your observations put words to the vague feelings I've been having about some of these tanks. Length is not a problem--you've chaptered it well, and the thouroughness is really nice to have when you're looking for it. Also beautiful editing and composition, as usual.
35:48 This entire clip is insane. Imagine being the crew inside that tank hearing these large caliber shells just bouncing like rubber balls off the turret.
The m103's APBC shell might not have a cap, but i'm still pretty sure it shouldn't randomly riochet on a panther's upper front plate... That is still a 23kg slug of metal going at over 1000m/s hitting it. Even a non pen would probably break the entire armor plate. And considering the M103 was pretty much made to defeat Soviet heavy tank armor it would be very wierd if the shell if fires where so bad against angled armor, as that is exactly what the sovies heavy tanks had a lot of.
A warning to those about to get the M46, and are "average" at the game. The M46, M47 and M48s have by far the worst stock grind in the game. I have no clue why Gaijin hasn't changed the the ammo research for these tanks, you need to go down lines (kinda like a mini tech tree). And about the M46, when you finally get the good shells. The thing honestly just doesn't play too well most of the time. At long range it's all but useless because of Germany and Britain. That armor will do nothing from Long 88s which can easily hit you at over a kilometer, while you have fun trying to aim your 90, and lmao 20 pdr APDS is the easiest thing to shoot at that BR. Close range, sure it's decent as a flanker but god help you if you run into anything that has a bigger gun than a Panzer IV. Without HEAT or APHE even the Panther will give you a run for your money (trust me, meeting a panther head on by accident like 3 times tells ya something). I find the best playstyle for the M46 is as a big light tank. You're fast enough for it and have the armor of one anyways. And as a con, I very much would put suffers in uptiers, 7.7 in an M46 is brutal. And I'm not tryna bash on this tank, the M46 is one of my favorite tanks of all time, it's just that in War Thunder, it really doesn't deserve to be at 7.0, it plays like a 6.7.

Having a lose streak through my Patton lineup, but somehow Gaijin decide to drop a free talisman for my M46, definitely worth it as i found out that from all Patton i played M46 is the most enjoyable one

I won a game thanks to that mesh disrupting a missile hit. that allowed me to deal with the tank to my front and then swing the gun to remove the bradley that missiled me to the rear, ensuring that no one was close enough to the cap to change the outcome. still killed me by fire (spent both extinguishers trying to save my last remaining teammate only to lose him to a bomb), but thats besides the point.

35:48 This entire clip is insane. Imagine being the crew inside that tank hearing these large caliber shells just bouncing like rubber balls off the turret.
The m103's APBC shell might not have a cap, but i'm still pretty sure it shouldn't randomly riochet on a panther's upper front plate... That is still a 23kg slug of metal going at over 1000m/s hitting it. Even a non pen would probably break the entire armor plate. And considering the M103 was pretty much made to defeat Soviet heavy tank armor it would be very wierd if the shell if fires where so bad against angled armor, as that is exactly what the sovies heavy tanks had a lot of.
A warning to those about to get the M46, and are "average" at the game. The M46, M47 and M48s have by far the worst stock grind in the game. I have no clue why Gaijin hasn't changed the the ammo research for these tanks, you need to go down lines (kinda like a mini tech tree). And about the M46, when you finally get the good shells. The thing honestly just doesn't play too well most of the time. At long range it's all but useless because of Germany and Britain. That armor will do nothing from Long 88s which can easily hit you at over a kilometer, while you have fun trying to aim your 90, and lmao 20 pdr APDS is the easiest thing to shoot at that BR. Close range, sure it's decent as a flanker but god help you if you run into anything that has a bigger gun than a Panzer IV. Without HEAT or APHE even the Panther will give you a run for your money (trust me, meeting a panther head on by accident like 3 times tells ya something). I find the best playstyle for the M46 is as a big light tank. You're fast enough for it and have the armor of one anyways. And as a con, I very much would put suffers in uptiers, 7.7 in an M46 is brutal. And I'm not tryna bash on this tank, the M46 is one of my favorite tanks of all time, it's just that in War Thunder, it really doesn't deserve to be at 7.0, it plays like a 6.7.
I thought the HEATFS serves well even in an uptier when meeting Maus.
But at that BR, I honestly prefer T92 for lower silhouette lol
ST-A1/A2 have the same gun and it's the same ammo line ressearch thing. :(

Damn, how long has it been? I watched this guy's russian tier list way back in 2020 and I've stumbled upon him again. Although, I no longer play war thunder, this surely does bring back memories.

The m103 is a surprisingly good close range fighter. It’s gun is so powerful you’ll get a lot of people panicking and placing bat shots out of fear

The F-89B at 7.7 is my favorite CAS plane in the game. If you get a downtier it's truly remarkable how much damage you can cause.
Having a lose streak through my Patton lineup, but somehow Gaijin decide to drop a free talisman for my M46, definitely worth it as i found out that from all Patton i played M46 is the most enjoyable one

12:00 im going to slight push back there. I won a game thanks to that mesh disrupting a missile hit. that allowed me to deal with the tank to my front and then swing the gun to remove the bradley that missiled me to the rear, ensuring that no one was close enough to the cap to change the outcome. still killed me by fire (spent both extinguishers trying to save my last remaining teammate only to lose him to a bomb), but thats besides the point.
