Bless you Rob and TPR - for making this excellent POV and footage of the Southport Cyclone. - You've made the only good quality pov footage I know to exist for this award winning ride. It truly deserved better respect than demolishion by powers that be. It's nice to see that it's been recognised by TPR as well for being one of the classic wooden roller coasters in the UK. :)
Classic historic ride....luckily been on it......then you look around..and suddenly the years are gone and taken so much ...and so many...with them...!!!!....Good job back there we had all that fun...!!!!!
Southport was a mint day out as a teenager so many memories. Cyclone, traumatiser, river caves, gold mine, the slides, wild cat, fun house, the mirror house, pirate ship and a few other flat rides I can't think about, take me back.
I recall going on this ride with my dad in the 1950s and was very scared at the time. Very sad that it has been demolished and with it all the happy memories. The same fate befell the Morecambe Cyclone and Manchester's Belle Vue Bobs. The latter was one of the bumpiest rides ever!
I loved this roller coaster. I especially loved that on a good day from the top you could see Blackpool Tower! Fond memories of going here as a kid and a real shame when the park closed down. No one seemed to know it was going to close down though? Not sure what happened really. Sad and I agree with someone else in these messages the UK needs more Woody's. You can't beat a good woody.
This was my local Rollercoaster, I grew up going to Pleasureland. Only here would such a unique attraction be allowed to be demolished. One afternoon I wandered over and took some photographs of this coaster, unbeknownst to me it was being smashed down the next day. I'm on of the last people in the world to photograph this ride. Contact me if you'd like the pics.
My Late Grandfather and Grandmother went on this roller coaster when it was brand new since my Late Grandfather came from southport, plus most my family went on this rollercoaster
Went on this ride as a kid and god was it rough, it was the first proper rollercoaster i'd ever been on just like many others and its a shame that its long since passed on, a real shame:
I went on this as a kid too. And the Bobs, and the Morecambe one, and some in Blackpool. Pity they have gone. The wooden coaster in Budapest is still in operation though - went on it a couple of weeks ago.
Pleasureland should have been turned intoba heritage amusement park like dreamland Margate. Could have saved the classic cyclone, and funhouse, river caves and crooked cotage. But at least dreamland saved most of theclassics except cyclone
the place looks a lot better now what norman is doing to it, only downside is too many kids rides, and needs to go back to wristbands. i find it too expensive to visit, and rides come and go throughout the season.
LinkAdams I can imagine they will get a large coaster at some point. I could see them getting a woodie, a zierer launch tower coaster (like wicked,) or a chance ride hyper gtx (like lightning run). if they don't get a new coaster it will suffer the same fate as pleasure island in Cleethorpes.
it wasn't fully the parks fault. blackpool pleasure beach bought it out and knocked cyclone down, telling scouts they could burn it. then they took our steel one over to their own park. ive been boycotting them ever since I found out this information...
Alex, I think the reason why the Velkma SLC was moved and this carelessly demolished was because it of cost issues, I point to Arkansas Twister in the US, sure they pYed 10 grand for it, but it cost $900,000 in construction costs, it's sad, but it was inevitable
For a country with very few woodies, demolishing a classic like this is a stupid, stupid move. Why the fuck would they save Traumatizer, a shitty SLC, instead of this?
Hopefully if the new owners of Southport Pleasureland make enough money, and they seem to be doing fairly well, they'll have to good sense to rebuild the cyclone on its former site. It won't be exactly the same but it'd be so cool. Maybe they could even improve it a litt.e. The owners of Pleasurebeach Blackpool knew what they were doing when they demolished this gem.
I don't have any memories of getting airtime on this coaster but it looks from this vid that there is. As I obviously cannot go back and ride it, can anyone fill me in?
Tbh Honest Pleasureland has gone to shit now, since they removed the good rides of the park and now their major coasters or PINFARI coasters!!!!! I didn't mind if an SLC was there biggest ride but a pinfari…...nope!

You can ride this in India, it has its clone in Nico Park, Kolkata, India

Nice! I wonder if any of the coasters I rode as a kid will wind up being historically significant...

Raising a glass of 'Southport Brewery Cyclone' beer in its memory!

Fantastic that you had the opportunity to capture this late great historic ride before it was gone.

The very first rollercoaster I ever went on! Happy old days! 👌
Brings back memories from my childhood! Loved this ride! Also remember the river caves ride too! Great times!
.. and the ghost train was wicked! Great times indeed being taken for the day to pleasureland as a child
My Late Grandfather and Grandmother went on this roller coaster when it was brand new since my Late Grandfather came from southport, plus most my family went on this rollercoaster

Shame it couldnt of been moved to dreamland also :(

LinkAdams the place looks crap now if I was the owner I would make wristbands the admission for the rides

I feel very sad watching this. Was the first roller coaster i ever went on, i was about 4 or 5. It got me hooked on coasters
I miss this ride, I have a few pieces of it in my attic
It’s a shame these were removed, look great fun

i first met Cat stevens and Steve Marriot from the Small faces there back in 1968
Superb video
Lost count of the amount of times i've been on this ride. Pity I didn't know that the last time I went on it would be my last.
RIP :'(
Looks like it just gets moving then it ends
I'll ask....lift hill??
I loved this coaster, why the owner of blackpool ripped it down i dont know you could have probably got a grant to re frub it.
@TCGTrader1997
It's crooked..off center, and drops a few degrees towards the top!!
Hopefully if the new owners of Southport Pleasureland make enough money, and they seem to be doing fairly well, they'll have to good sense to rebuild the cyclone on its former site. Probably the 1st rollercoaster i went or near abouts.
Remember this so well, was scary for me then lol
It's Pleasureland!
Fuck me, there proper rollercoaster enthusiasts
reminds me of a roller coaster i rode at gullivers world called the antelope
Occasionally they would couple up the middle car back to front, so you could ride the coaster backwards.
how was riding backwards for you?
very disconcerting - you couldn't anticipate the drops
lmao what's with that lift hill?!
that's cool
I don't have any memories of getting airtime on this coaster but it looks from this vid that there is. As I obviously cannot go back and ride it, can anyone fill me in?
I definitely remember feeling a sense of airtime as a kid. I remember it terrifying me, not because of the ride so much as feeling REALLY unsafe.
this video makes it look very small and slow but i dont remember it that way :/
@xXtotalyawesomeXx because the owners ripped it down, shame really considering it was built in the 1930's...
IM sad when I was little I used to come to this park and ride this ride eery time
I went including my 5 cent bubble gum!
First time on this coaster
In primary school remember that there were some Scottish punks riding in back cars 1 had green hair
Happy days
10 cameras? Really?
2 trains with 3 cars per train. Riding across of 3 rows avaibile a total of 18 riders per train.
RIP, Southport :(
Jack Horrocks You haven’t been to southport new pleasureland have you?
You can ride this in India, it has its clone in Nico Park, Kolkata, India
I miss the cyclone and traumatizer.
the traumatizer was moved to blackpool pleasurebeach
the same lies in nicco park in India....
Southport fair is awful nowadays.
@edgar180 Thats what happens when they go big business (liberal)
I always thought it was sold to an American outfit.
