Why didn't they explain Garner's absence from season 2? Did they honestly think the audience would forget about such a memorable central character? Also, why would their PI firm now be working for Tieg instead of for themselves? Who was Tieg? Why did all of their story lines involve the paranormal instead of more realistic PI cases? So many unanswered questions and season 2 is well underway. This show had the potential to become so much better but they ruined it.
They could have given an "in-series"-exaplanation for Garner's absence but in reality the actor wanted to leave and focus on other projects. But hey, 19:55 shows the police guy from Charmed! :D
Studios do away with characters all the time and never explain it in story. I can think of several well known iconic tv series starting from the 1960's that did just that. For example: Mannix - 2nd season everyone except the main character from the 1st season was eliminated with no explanation, Burke's Law - the ENTIRE series and even the name changed in the 3rd season to Amos Burke Secret Agent, Wild Wild West - in 3rd season Artemus Gordon is never heard of again, Gunsmoke - character of Chester disappears and never mentioned after being a regular for 9 years just to name a few. Baywatch Nights changed drastically in season 2 just like many other American tv shows that had lackluster ratings in 1st season. In other countries, shows are given time to prove themselves, but in Hollywood this is what typically happens if 1st season ratings are not good enough for the studio execs.
With the success of The X files, they wanted to go in a paranormal direction. I loved when they did. It made the show so much interesting. However there were some bad writing and cheesy stories in some episodes. I still enjoyed for the most part

They shake hands in the closeup shots further up the beach at the end of the swash zone, where the waves are only ankle-deep, at most- then get struck by lighting while still shaking hands with the water halfway up their lower legs in the middle of the swash zone. That cut also makes the dozen or so bikini babes and beach studs who are between them and the ocean magically disappear. The guy in the wetsuit in the ocean behind Mitch teleports several feet to the left and is now accompanied by another bloke with a bodyboard. Continuity! I love how the random beachgoers they used as extras in the scene stare at the camera and crew in front of Mitch and alien boy, while they're walking through the background. Watching camera crews and actors work in the wild sure is excitin', yo! But seriously, filming the beach scenes must have been a nightmare on some days. On regular "Baywatch" you can spot people do the weirdest things in the background sometimes. At least one guy actually intentionally mooned the camera, the editor missed it when they worked on the footage, and it was broadcasted in the episode. They had a random completely naked toddler in another episode. That footage was reused for yet another episode, but they censored the child's butt with a black bar that time. Someone must have told them in no uncertain terms that it was not acceptable. Also great: Alien boy says he's on McConnell Street. The street sign in one of the next shots clearly says "McConnell Avenue". Nobody gave a damn anymore when they made season 2. And you can clearly see the wire they lowered Hasselhoff into the ground-level shot with, in the "Mitch gets thrown off the roof" scene, before he gets up. Good job, all!

It was already "broken" in season 1 to be fair. The ratings were falling and the studio executives decided to give it the X-Files look to try and salvage the show. I do think they made a mistake as the story lines got more ridiculous as season 2 progressed, and they should have kept the same theme as season 1, but just made the story lines from season 1 more in-depth and less predictable. Ditching the humor and character interrelationships between Garner, McBride and Buchannon was a mistake. The Teig character of season 2 was awful, and could never fill Garner's shoes.
It was a good show but from viewer's prospective it was creating new lows for the show's production the regular was better. Plus when they started bringing in zombies and ghost and crazy people david hasselhoff as executive producer himself knew that baywatch nights had it's run that he had just enjoy orginal show as his go to.
Who else doesn't consider the series based in the same universe as Baywatch? Mitch in this series isn't the same Mitch in Baywatch for example. I know their meant to be but its so bad I don't want it to be.
Didn't Mitch tell Stephanie, in the original Baywatch, that he was going to be a part time Life guard so he can be a private detective? So technically, this is canon.

This really is a poorly written, badley acted pile of..
I love it
Mitch Von Malibu gets chased down an alley by a telekinetically controlled dumpster.
It's amazing!
I'm glad they didn't turn Baywatch into The X Files
They kind of did this series anyway ha

Yeah Season 2- Garner?/Tieg?/Creatures?/ Good cast

season 1 was better this season is the reason it was no season 3 , don't fix it if its not broken.

It began to be silly... why is the change?
Part time head life guard/part time private eye/full time father? The premise was already silly. They just decided to embrace it and go all out.
