David went out with me for a month or so. 39 years ago I was 16 and he was 17. I have only just realised who he is now. He did not talk much. He seemed "different". I made him smile. Most people I talk to about David Gray say that his earlier stuff was much better. His new material is heavily over produced and lacks the "rawness" of earlier songs. It's true that he is able to get away with dodgy lyrics due to his clever interpretation

It's true that David Gray has written some dodgy lyrics, especially in the past. That's because he concentrates too much on the aesthetic rather than that sincerity that an audience can relate too. Having said that his voice is great and he's capable of great songwriting when he gets it right. I personally think that this type of music would work better with a "live feeling" rather than a heavily over produced sound

He's famous but not overly famous and I think he likes it that way. He doesn't sell out areas but more like theaters and that keeps the show intimate. Slow motion was after white ladder and that album was fucking awesome. Over produced? Please!!!!! Music is music if it's good it's good. Musicians change to keep it fresh not just to sell out. David never got huge Fame and that's part of the appeal. Draw the line album was great as well. Name the lyrics you talk about that are sub par by your standard. I believe his lyrics are better than 99 Percent of what's out there. As far as mumbling I understand everything he says. Maybe the accent is what throws you off.
