To all the Bengali speaking people, this Indian musical instrument is called Khol in Bangla.
BUT IN SANSKRITA, IT IS CALLED AS MRIDANGA [MRIT (Earthen) + ANGA (Body)], since the body of this instrument is made of earth. SO IT IS CORRECTLY SAID AS MRIDANGA.

@ devkumar....f*** u....because you don't know the music....in western it is 8/4 beat ...not 4/4 always...but In indian it is it combination of 3 taal ardha and some places they got the kaharwa touch also....can you tell me what is the scale just by hearing....not by confirmation with other instrument...because the name c d e....beats 4/4 8/4 or indianly 4/4/4/4 or that staffs are actually discovered 2000 years later of music....I know you have just learned to catch a beat....keep learning....one day you will surely know music has no language

This instrument is called sreekhol or khol, Mridanga may be looks like it but that has slightly closed and low end sound. The sreekhol has a gab and open hi end chanti thats why it has that open bell sound. Mridanga dosent has the gab. And also Mridanga is lot more familiar in South-Indian Classical music where's the sreekhol is lot more famiar in Bhajans, Bengali Folk, Rabindrasangeet, Devotional, Religious Music.. That open hi end of a chanti is also we can see in tabla and it signifies the essence of positivity in life.

As mentioned in the title of the track.. the musician is playing a mrdanga (also known as khol) which is a popular instrument in Bengal. Mrdanga is often deemed as the poor man's tabla. The core body is made of clay. Mridangam which is a popular instrument from Southern India is made out of a jackfruit tree.

For all those, debating about whether it is a KHOL or Mridanga, BOTH are the SAME thing,
it is now widely known as Khol in the Eastern and North eastern states of India
which was previously known as Mridanga when Sanskrit was prevalent,
also do not confuse with Mridangam,
Mridangam originates from the southern states of India in comparison to Eastern/North-eastern origin of Khol
both has a very similar constituent list of items consisting of Jackfruit wood along hollow earthen body with double sided drumheads made up of cow/goat/buffalo skin though modern ones can include synthetic drumheads
the striking main difference is in their structure,
Khol/Mridanga have a larger right drumhead and a significantly smaller left drumhead
as opposed to the Mridangam where although there is a difference in sizes of drumheads, the difference is much smaller in comparison

In traditional Hindu society, going barefoot is of prime importance. One way both rulers and ordinary folk pay respect to the temple deities is by approaching barefoot, a sign of respect, humility, and submissiveness. Since, Mridanga or Khol is a holy musical instrument, therefore it's necessary to be barefoot, while you play it. Regardless, it is solely dependent on one's personal will. Being barefoot is a way to pay your respect to this almighty instrument.🙏@@Pain53924
