- With the 2020 Indianapolis 500 coming up, we look back at one of the most interesting stories that the brickyard has produced throughout it's history. Fernando Alonso first went to the Indy 500 with McLaren and Andretti Autosport in 2017 in a bid to win the triple crown of Motorsport. He fell flat on his face after failing to qualify in 2019 and now he's back again in 2020 to try to finish what he started and cement his name alongside Graham Hill in the racing history books. We also have Kyle Cuthbertson from RacingNationTV as our special guest to provide his insight.

When he raced the indy500 in 2017 he had a chance to win (or top 3) so that's why when his engine broke down i almost broke the windows from how loud i screames "NOOOOOOOO"

@@triplecrownracing It also doesn't help that Alonso brought so much success for Honda's biggest rival, Toyota. Toyota practically made Alonso the face of their endurance team.

You make it sound like Mclaren and Alonso had a falling out when that wasn't the case. His contract ran out with Mclaren and didn't renew. Looking at it now, he may have cut ties with Mclaren because his talks with Renault started as early as Abu Dhabi 2019. Alonso was and is still in good terms with Mclaren. Secondly, I don't fault Alonso for wanting to go with another option after McLaren's disastrous 2019 Indy 500 try.
Mclaren are still open to working with him. Even Zak has said that he's still open to another Alonso/Mclaren drive outside F1 if Alonso's Renault contract permitted it. Although Alonso has now squashed that and has said that he won't be doing another Indy 500 race for at least 2 years. Also, Honda are a bunch of cry babies and I'm glad Alonso's time with Toyota was a successful one. After Toyota's 2016 heartbreak of their car stoping in the last lap at LeMans, they deserved all the success.
I'm not saying McLaren and Alonso fell out per say. But I'm guessing the reason he decided not to renew his contract was because of McLarens underwhelming performances.

@@triplecrownracing true. One Japanese manufacturers loss was another's gain. I think Alonso nailed it with Toyota. Seeing he's off to Renault next year, Nissan may get a chance at him promoting their products.

The Honda F1 motor had the same power as a Gp2 engine , when it did not hand grenade .
Plus Ferrari was/is a management 💩 show.
