  • I was excited when this was announced...so here goes. My look at the RevX from Excalibur.
I am not sponsored by anyone! But I do share what I like and what I don't like. And I like a good coupon code to save a few bucks as much as you do (see below). My "perfect" crossbow setup these days includes:
Killer Instinct SWAT X1 (starting 2023)
Burris Oracle X Scope (since 2022)
Dragon Claw arrows from Wyvern Creations (good outfit, been buying different gear there for years, these arrows are great in the SWAT)
All of our crossbows use the following, 100% of time:
Burt Coyote Lumenoks (since 2012 or so) (save 10% on lumenok.com with coupon code BUNJIE )
Swhacker #251 3" cutting diameter crossbow broadheads (for our last 20 or 30 deer) (save 10% off select broadheads including this "perfect" model using coupon code BUNJIE2324 on their website: swhacker.com/discount/BUNJIE2324 )
Bunjie (The Original Bunjie, The O.B.) is my 2010 Excalibur Axiom that got me hooked on crossbow hunting. This was my "one gun" for more than a decade and Bunjie's reliability is the reason I ONLY hunt with a crossbow. After killing dozens of deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired, but still gets out every year and even killed two deer 2023--and a woodchuck at 81 yards!
Bunjie and I have written two books: The Death by Bunjie Crossbow Method ( amzn.to/3zJbAI0 ) and The Death by Bunjie Crossbow Story ( amzn.to/2Peq4aC ), both available on Amazon.com with those links.
Check out the Gear Page on our website, deathbybunjie.com. Again, I am not sponsored by anyone! But you can see what gear I like and don't like on that site. And if you buy from Amazon.com using one of those links, Death by Bunjie receives a small referral fee and you DO NOT pay more! How cool is that?
Check out the Death by Bunjie podcast, Talking with Bunjie! It's available on deathbybunjie.com or on the podcast app of your choice.
    Facebook much? deathbybunjie
Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. This crossbow was also a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of our story as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow back in 2020 when I began the Quest for a Successor to Bunjie. Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows), a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at around 400 fps! This crossbow helped expand the Kingdom fo Bunjie by introducing me to compound crossbows and showing me they're nothing to be feared, and also helped me get my first deer on public ground. This crossbow also inspired the "Rule of 400" that I talk about from time to time: a crossbow that can shoot a 400 grain arrow at 400 feet per second is the definition of a modern crossbow--producing over .7 slugs of momentum and over 140 foot pounds of kinetic energy, the envy of the archery world.
Again, I am not sponsored by these companies. I am sponsored by Friends of Bunjie! (I'm not asking for gifts whatsoever--please don't feel like you should send me stuff! But I do appreciate the support I've received over the years! I'm just trying to express my appreciation for that.)
This channel is the result of combining my interest in filming and hunting...and music, too! The soundtrack for this channel is provided by my band, Yankee Militia. The albums "Live Free or Kill" and "Zombies Gotta Eat, Too!" are available on Amazon.com and elsewhere. A third album is in the works.
If you've read this far, then there is only one thing left to say:
    All Hail Bunjie!

Love the videos...keep em coming. I have the Bulldog 360 . Bought it new and still use it. Gone thru 2 strings. But yes, I have to use an external crank and have just gotten use to it. I shoot BE 18" with the Flat lumenock. Calculated at 450grs, Actual 438grs. The only reason I would ever change would be to have an internal crank.

Another mind stimulating crossbow video by our man Rich.
I think this new Excaliber is a tad overpriced compared to what else you can get in that price range. But like its Great Grandfather, the Original Bunjie, I have no doubt it will become a dependable 'Go To' bow for many happy hunters.
    Thanks once more Rich!.

Hi Rich, Thanks for the vid! I’m in the same boat as you Burt Coyote Lumenocks for the win! Lumenok did come out with their own flat nock to fit the Rhino grooved aluminum piece that fits into the CF trigger but from what I’ve been reading with a BE arrow with just a standard GTF flat Lumenok will work and can be shot as well on the CF triggers…

It’s definitely a good 25yard+-..hunting rig! The most notable thing is how little noise this beautiful thing produces 😊I still have the 16”(quill)arrows that came with the x-bow. I have 3 new, never used for Gen if she wants them. Heck by now they’re probably older than she is! Lol

I handled this bow at the Outdoor show in Harrisburg. It had a great feel to it. The rep did a demo on the crank and I think it's much better than the original Assassin. The only knock is that the crank is in the right only. Left handers will have to spin the bow around. Lumenok has a version of the Rhino nock out now. 👍

Today, Excal seems like Oneida Eagle bows (compound vertical bows) where time has left them behind as to today BUT....
Everything about these bows are as relatable to why they were sold as to when they were sold.
Easy to use and easy to work on. Does the job all the time, wherever it is used....

I've been looking at replacing my old Excalibur Equinox. I like the simplicity of Excaliburs but I think Mission is doing simplicity better these days. Can service the strings / cables yourself on a compound crossbow, no fancy stuff to break, and still cocks with a rope. They also have the problem of reporting their speeds with a 350 grain bolt though.

I have a Mission Sub-1 in camo. It's a very nice crossbow but it's very expensive and my most expensive one to date. I got mine on a super sale and it still was a pretty good penny. Once you break into that $1,500 - $1,750 territory you are shelling out some dough for sure. Most of my crossbows are under $1,000 and many under $750. I only paid $600 for my Excalibur MAG 340 for reference as well.

  • @tythomps
    @tythomps Před 5 měsíci

When the 2 original 400TD's came out, they spec'd them as 325 lb draw weight. Since the RevX has the same limbs and speed, I would also expect it to have the same draw weight.
Though very good chance 325 lb was an understatement back when the 400TD's came out. Dykman was still at the helm then. The new crew is trying to be more true to form with actual cocking effort.
Oh and the equally heavy draw Assassin 400TD and Assassin Extreme dis have rope cocking grooves, but only Hulk Hogan could rope cock them anyway. No sense including it in this new stock design. There's also a slight chance a rope cocker could be used behind the crank. Haven't had my hands on one yet though.

    • @JohnDoeEagle1
      @JohnDoeEagle1 Před 5 měsíci +6

Once you get into 350 - 420 fps "speed" is not that important anymore. That is plenty fast and powerful enough for anybody. You are going to start breaking stuff once you exceed that threshold. The limbs delaminate, crack and don't last, neither do the strings and cams. I want a bow or crossbow I can shoot a lot year round and not just 5 shots the day before opening day to confirm zero without it being broken.

First thought, got to wonder if the big buck crossbow people are actually listening/interviewing real hunters. Doesn't seem like they are. Not giving people what they're looking for. Simply put.
Second, I've yet to run across a crank I like. Way too long to crank and too much effort. Actually don't mind using the rope, plus it helps keep you in better shape. Lol.
Third, not seeing a big difference between the big buck crossbows or the middle range boys. I know from handling some of them, quality is better in certain areas. But overall, has never been enough to make me spring for them.
I have a Barnett and a Killer Instinct. Actually very happy with both. I use both of them in different situations. Meaning, one's better in one situation than the other. Be at hunting from a tree or ground blind, type of thing. The Barnett was easier to get used to. It's so smooth & accurate. Killer instinct has more power, but the trigger takes time to get used to. Almost like a double pole type of thing.
I wonder how many different crossbows guys/gals have? And wonder how long they have them for? Do people switch out every two, three years? Or are they loyal to what they purchased for 10 years or so? Just a thought!😮
This is neither here or there.

Not just because you're getting older but you're losing it like the rest of us. (Opps, sorry). Or most of us. I just couldn't help but laugh at the beginning of the video. Good stuff. It can be done, but when you can add 100fps for the same or less money with a modern crossbow, I'd take that...the benefits in penetration and deer not jumping the string are huge for me. Just my thoughts.

I haven't seen one of these in person, but based on the pictures and the information they give on the website, the anti-dryfire system on this xbow is not new. It is the ceasefire rhino nock system. They launched this tech on the Micro 380 from 2022. I have one and it came with those same arrows. This new one probably has the same little detent ball underneath the scope rail where the arrow goes. When an arrow is nocked and fully seated against the string, the detent is pressed by the arrow. This unlocks the trigger and helps keep the arrow in place against the string. YOU DO NOT need to use the rhino nocks with this system. Excalibur just wants you to buy their pro flight arrows with their special nocks. I use the same lighted nocks that Genevieve has on her arrows. The Nufletch Ignitors and they work fine. Overall, I think this new bow looks great. If I wasnt happy with my 380 I would be considering it. I might buy a crank though for when Im doing repeated shots for sighting in or practice. However, I like the small footprint of the rope for hunting. Just stick it in your pocket, Kingdom of Bunjie style!

I am a newbie. I shot at a deer with my micro extreme and the arrow must have hit the scapula. It bent the blade on the mechanical broadhead and there was no blood on the arrow. It fell right beneath the deer. The deer was bleeding but got away. Now I am thinking it might be from my 250-grain arrow with 100 grain broadhead. I have the rhino nocks so I can't buy new arrows, but do you think I should use a 150 grain broadhead? It made me sick it was a 30-yard shot and I was aiming for the vitals.

Up the weight to around 2.5X draw and you don’t have that problem especially with the high output. There is not a speed bow in the world doesn’t fail. Hell Ravin tells you they fail in the manual that’s why you have to limit your shots. They are not a target bow… so if you do that with your excalibur you have to treat it the same way. 5 shots a year no crossbow breaks within 25 shots and that’s 5 years of shooting.

You kind of hit the nail right on the head! You can't decock with it, and it clicks. In addition to that, it's extremely heavy. I think it's made of cast iron. Not kidding! Furthermore it doesn't even have as good a reduction as the charger cranks. Genevieve was unable to crank her crossbow with it. It was an afterthought, a rush to Market to accommodate new high draw weight Limbs and it was quickly discontinued as it should have been as soon as they came out with something better. I'm not saying that compounds are better or automatically should demand a higher pricepoint, but from my neophyte view, it seems a simpler product with less parts should be significantly cheaper.
