- Today we learnt Brits are £10k worse off since 2010…
Tory MP, Dehenna Davison defends this saying:
"Any government would've seen inflation and low growth."
Needless to say,
I had a different view…
Right on Marina, the tory is talking rubbish.
The Tory's have broken Britain
It's honestly exhausting listening to endless drivel. Marina is bang on - EVERYTHING is worse. Noticeably worse.
This typical Tory is living on another planet . Well said Marina
Marina is a breath of fresh air.
Austerity did not work! 800 billion to 2,400 billion deficit!
It killed 100,000 poor people, so the tories probably think it worked.
Funny how the Tory MP makes no mention of the economic damage done by brexit
She lies so easily and you give her airtime !!!!!
Purkiss has beauty and brains. No wonder the Torys don't like her.
Dear God, the Tories just look after themselves and screw the rest of us.
She's a tory she's gonna be lying.
I don't think she sees it as lying, it more that she's Tory and by default she is right, so she does mental gymnastics to convince herself, because they are better than socialism or Labour.
We feel poorer because we are significantly poorer. Record high prices, 15 years of wage stagnation!!!
We have to close the tax loopholes and tax the ultra wealthy!!
Tory’s lie or blame. Never their fault.
Marina, may I say... you are THE BEST
The massive negative affect of tory austerity on health, increased suicide rates and poverty related illness both physical and mental health .All conviently ignored by this tory.
Tories + Brexit = catastrophe
I totally agree with you Marina. Thanks so much.💋
TORYS OUT FOREVER
Silly little Tory. Can't understand the difference between the difference between millions billions and trillions !!
Riles me about the Tories. 2010, £811bn in debt after world financial crisis. We could not manage that.
2023, £2.5Trillion in debt. All is okay though.
Where has OUR money gone?
Follow the money and it will lead back to CCHQ.
Debt keeps rising unless you reduce the deficit back down to zero...and into surplus.
What this Tory is also failing to acknowledge, is that it isn't just about economic growth, it's about wealth distribution. That's why other countries are not in a cost of living crisis. Because workers are paid much better, and corporations are regulated to stop profiteering!!
Exactly, just looking at gdp isn't a good indication of a successful economy if there is high levels of inequality.
I’ve never hated anything in my life as much as I HATE the tories. Thank god I’m old so will be out of this three ring circus soon.
I am no tory but if you think, anyone else can make things better for you like labour then good luck .if labour were in power for the time the tories have been in we would be far worse of .Reform party is the only party to sort thjngs out ,I can't vote for tory let alone labour or worse .
@@michaelbenton2518 You might as well be Tory, Reform are just more biggoted and racist. The Tories are bad enough. Labour had to sort out the mess the Cons left behind last time. It's going to take a hell of a lot longer this time. And you think a party that all it cares about is so called "illegal immigrants" You're having a laugh.
The disdain etched on Marina's face listening to any Tory is hard to contain!
It's a fact that when the Tories won in 2010 they blamed Labour for the world subprime Banking crisis that had nothing to do with Labour policies. Come covid in 2020 the Tories are blaming a covid pandemic that they mishandled anyway on global forces, but the global forces in 2010 don't count, but for their argument they do in 2020. In 2010 the Tories stated that they would in one parliament use Austerity, the contraction of our economy to pay off the national debt. 14 years latter Austerity is still with us. The failure of it is for us all to see too little police, the implosion of our rundown legal system, schools crumbling, health the NHS in crisis a 4% a year contraction in our economy due to Brexit. Rivers and coasts riddled with sewage.
Eventually how ever that Tory tries to tell us things are actually fine no one believes them anymore.
I can remember being in a Building Project funding meeting with Natwest/ RBOS senior management, as his Project Manager and Agent, together with the Project Owner and his Contractor in late 2005 or 2006. I asked the quite modest question of the Senior Natwest Manager present "what is your exposure to the American Sub-prime Mortgage crisis?" All the while knowing full well that he was. My client, the Project Owner, told me to shut up and I did. Two years later, and well into the project, Natwest/RBOS were virtually bankrupt and they pulled his funding (something like £36million) with less than 24 hours notice, and I and his legal team were left to pick up the bloody pieces.
Marina is so spot on!!
Marina is brilliant. Have to say it was clear by the 2015 GE that Austerity had not worked, they had not reduced the deficit and they had not reduced the number coming into the country. Yet the people voted them in with a clear majority. Tories can be blamed for so much and i’d like to see them all in Prison quite frankly but we also have to look at the people who continually voted for them, and those who don’t vote at all as that is still a vote for them. I cannot wait for the next GE and hope and pray the people come to their senses.
marina, please team up with Carol vordaman. You two would be deadly together.
Nice to see a Tory MP still blaming Labour for their problems after being in power for 14 years.
🤣🤣😂😂 Another Tory soiling their selves live on TV.
Dehenna Davison just proved why we're in such a mess. In 2010 when the tories came to power, interest rates were incredibly low, they could have borrowed cheaply and invested in the country, but their insane ideology was austerity, which has destroyed public services, so that they could give private contracts to their donors.
Rishi Sunak has given out £800 billion since 2020 (£16K for every adult in the country) they now owe that money, and high interest to the super rich (billionaires across the UK are around £720M richer each!), making the government and us burdened with debt. They have ruined the economy, public services, housing, the NHS, education, pushed rents up and all the while allowed water and energy to make massive profits, the likes of which have never been seen before.
We are all poorer due to Conservative corruption of the highest level. Anyone who wants to understand this should watch Gary's Economics on here.
Xactly this. If they had taken on cheap long term debt and invested just think of all the things that could have been less costly down the line: more energy security when Ukraine crisis hit, more resilient economy with industrial base during covid, lower inflation, better NHS. The list goes on. Sadly there is no innovation or foresight from this govt
Marina was spot on and absolutely superb. Especially when the tory kept trying to interrupt
Austerity is LITERALLY taking from the poor to give to the rich
She still blaming labour 😂
I was 11 when Blair came into power. The country felt better when they left, (financial crash included). I was 25 when the Tories got back in. I'm now 38 and EVERYTHING feels worse.
Agreed! I'm the same age. Even with the banks that collapsed and the pound tanked, food and utility inflation wasn't that bad, especially compared to how it is now. Probably because we still had EU free trade
@@carlcassidy185 Brexit is a massive part of this. Worst part is, before the Tory party made it an issue, it wasn't an issue.
New Labour was a disaster. Left massive debts, massive welfare dependency and added another one million
mainly non-jobs to the public sector....plus unfunded trillions of pension liabilities with it.
Millions of benefit hungry immigrants poured in from both the third world and EU. No wonder all the money ran out by 2010.
@@KILKennyLaDa9898-js2nr - Torybot5000 desperately putting out fires in the chat..... We all see you.
Blair opened the borders with disastrous effects. Brown boom and bust, insane borrowing and wasteful spending, colossal debts, bloated public sector, massive welfare dependency giving us NINE MILLION economically inactive today.
I have never been worse off than under a Tory government.
Are you old enough to remember 2007? I do and that was a labour government. I was living on a council estate watching single mothers pump out babies on Blair's ridiculous welfare that bankrupted the country.
@@williamsulman2646ummm in 2007 the national debt was 35% of gdp. As of Jan 24 it’s 96.8 % of gdp. Where did all the money go ?
@@user-rc7dg3np9cobviously it was Brexit. If you voted for it we all got a cheque for a few mil in the post.
so you want me to go through a list of the government expenditure from the last 17 years?
How much free time you got?
I don't know, and nor do you. Its probably gone up a load of noses. I'm sure labour would be much better. Only gotta look around the world. See all the other western countries not in lots of debt. Oh hang on. It's almost like the entire western world has been living beyond it's means for decades.
No NHS, no welfare state. That's the future and you all seem to be gagging for it 🤦 I don't care, I'm prepared. I will pay private. What are the rest of you gonna do exactly?
I believe in the NHS and a safety net to catch you when you fall. Not everyone has the means to go private and as a tax paying society, it’s right we have that imho.
@@user-rc7dg3np9c and who is it catching these days? Last time I tried to see a Dr it took over a month. It took my old man less time to die!
You think it's so great then you pay my share. Cos I want my money back and I won't use it.
I'm surprised Dehenna is even showing her face on TV after the failure of Liz Truss, who she kept boasting would be a great prime minister for Britain, not to mention we know she's resigning this year at the General Election. Trying to get her last minutes of glory as an MP no doubt, despite being all 'Britain is going to work and soar with Brexit now done!'.
Growth is meaningless if you are already at least 10% behind those other countries.
Love that Marina sat there quietly and didn't interrupt her before ripping her a new one...
Angela Raynor was spot on with her assessment of Tories, so was Nye Bevan…
She is deserting the sinking ship🐀
Purkiss OWNS all Tories because she is telling the TRUTH!
You do a wonderful job Marina. And you come across with warmth , style and integrity.
Wow …………..absolute wow ! Food banks , zero hours contracts , brexit , off the scale mortgage payments, inflation , how lucky are we ?
We’ve been in this ‘austerity’ since the tories for over 15 years now ,the public get poorer and the Tory politicians and their mates are getting richer of US!
When you compare your health with a corpse you will always feel like your doing well.
Marina purkess is ace
You can't beat her 👏👍🙂
Energy security - some of us are old enough to remember Thatcher selling off the essential utilities infrastructure...
I love how the Tories, after 14 years in control, still blame Labour for these problems as if they have been powerless to do anything about it during these 14 years.
Sadiq Khan Has been in power for 8 years and still blames Boris...
@@B-uk8eoif you're talking ULEZ, then it is only fair that credit and blame are shared with everyone who played a part!
Absolutely brilliant, she destroyed the tory lies
I thought that PFIs that were introduced by John Major weren't the best way of raising money for hospitals, schools and infrastructure, but at least it got built.
Where are the 40 new hospitals promised by the Tories ?
We can see where the money Labour spent went, but I can't see any improvements funded by the Tories.
Even now they want to give tax breaks to people that will help the wealthiest more than those who are desperate.
But if there's money to spare now, shouldn't it be used to reinstate all those things that 'had' to be cut due to austerity ?
Austerity was used to break services that the Tories didn't like, didn't use and don't want us to have in the future.
"Im alright Jack" said the compassionate Conservative to the good samaritan
Whilst passing the food banks...
100% correct Maria.
Excellent exposure of poor management of the country.
That was brutal Marina
The super rich (little Richi) are better off across the whole period.
That poor MP, who found herself stuck in a wet paper bag and she still couldn't find her way out of.
Tories keep chucking their gaslighting excuses and Marina keeps batting them out of the park!
After 14 years of the Tories everything is Britain is broken. The Tories couldn't run a bath let alone the country.
The tory gets absolutely rinsed by inconvenient facts 😅
Tory mp said austerity worked well! OMFG! End of conversation!
Keep up the amazing work Marina! You're a legend!
Funny how this show on Ch5 consistantly has current/ex Tory MPs, Brexit/Reform party members and yet rarely ever has any representaives on from Labour, Lib Dem, Green etc...... Mmmm??
I've been retired for nearly 4 years. I've lived in my home for over 27 years. When I retired I had the same income as when I bought the house in 1996. My house is apparently worth 7 times what I paid for it. That very fact is a disgrace from which I take no comfort as I'm not about to move to a South Seas island where the money I have apparently accrued might have some benefit, except I have no wish to live there. The fact that average rent paid across the UK is now at over £1800/ month and increased by 8.5% in the last 12 months is also a disgrace and should be a matter of national shame. Only after 14 years do the Tories think it's time to introduce a Bill to protect renters. Most Tory MPs own properties which they rent (and quite a few of those have been bought and paid for by taxpayers). This country is a farce critically damaged by liars and thieves.
Tory times are always hard times….unless you’re rich.
Professor Jo Michell of UWE Bristol suggests that reductions in government spending (Austerity) when the economy is under performing can actually lead to higher levels of public debt and lower growth. New research backs this up "Attempts to reduce debt via fiscal consolidations have very likely resulted in a higher debt to GDP ratio through their long term negative impact on output."
Austerity was a complete failure, we've had low growth and increased inequality, which is why we have ended with an economy that only benefits the very wealthy.
Fantastic Marina.
When I hear someone say 'I've always voted tory' I want to ask if they feel any shame or blame
What do you expect from a council house Tory. Northerners who have ever voted/vote Tory are planks.
What a star Marina, wish we had 650 of you making up our parliament this country and the people would be in such a massive better state. Your without doubt by far the best and most astute panellist they have on the show. Far more intelligent than any of them by a long way !! Love it when your on and for some actual truths spoken 🙂.
@Marina, the difference in the national debt is almost equal for the £140bn the tories have been borrowing per year for 14 years, that's £1,960bn. The money's in their bank accounts. We need labour to audit them.
Marina is a champion. She is so good at debunking the tory lies and spin.
This tory voted against feeding school kids during school holidays. I live in Bishop Auckland, which is her constituency, and she's never been seen.
She's buggered off and still taking her salary as an mp, but she's never off the telly.
THAT'S THE COST OF MAKING TORY BILLIONAIRES!!!
EVERYONE ELSE BEARS THE COST!!!!
Tories: "We are the party of personal responsibility"
Also Tories: "We blame Labour for this because they didn't foresee this coming 27 years ago"
Go Marina!
anytime a politician equates public spending with personal or household spending it's time to be suspicious. 5:51.
For two years under Chancellor Brown, the national debt decreased. Debt was only that high because the banks were bailed out, at our expense.
Marina is the Darren Jones of journalism, just brilliant.
Davidson chucked her job because of migraines. Shouldn't she just soldier on? That is what The Tories tell clinically ill people.
Why does the MP sound like I have my video set at 1.5x speed?
#GeneralElectionNow
She’ll be 10k worse off in a couple of months
80k a year. But they get a few bob if they' lose their seat as compensation . A plum deal if you ask me.
Not even that we're 10k poorer it's the state of national services that we pay for. Disgrace.
They really do think the governments budget works like there household budget.
Well, they're corrupt and abusing the taxpayer in the government budget, and also exploiting their personal expense claims, so for them, it is true!
Typical deluded Tory.
Well, that's yet another tory that got rinsed
They clutch at straws and lie in every single interview.
Time for an election, enough of telling us we are so lucky
Furlough £70 billion. £120 billion last year on interest only on the national debt!!
Was furlough the only cost of the lockdowns then?
@@williamsulman2646 what do you think?
@@stevenoneil1232 considering I nearly got arrested for wanting to see my dying father more than 10 mins. I think I lost as much as anyone over those years.
@@stevenoneil1232 Definitely not. The £37 billion wasted on the failed test, track and trace system; the £22 billion odd wasted on NHS PPE and sundry supplies that were deemed unfit for use and which still costs us money to store and dispose of...
You have to remember that each year MP’s take around £2500-£4500 pay rise so yes they are having a great time, problem, what problem !
Sick of hearing about this NOTE left by labour! Every chancellor has left this note - as a joke - for years … not just labour!!
Also, he actually must have handled the crisis ok, because other countries copied his strategy. More important was that the crisis was caused by the unethical practices of tory bankers like Rishi Sunak, who, bizarrely, is now pm.
and that's how all conservatives should be treated when talking about fiscal policy.
Marina you're a star !!
Tory minister who is a brexiteer has no answers on financing! they cannot when the cost to the UK seems to increase each day!
Got to Love Marina❤❤❤

The last time Japan was thought of as a high growth economy was when Back to the future was in cinemas
This whole credit card analogy really winds me up. If the country could be compared to anything, it would be a business, and a business prospers via investment and looking after and incesting in its' people and delivering great products.
If a business makes it's own trade harder, lets directors and investors embezzle money and causes it's workforce to die off of be unable to come to work while having no plan for the future and using outdated technology then it's obviously going to struggle.
2.54 trillion in debt should warrant an investigation and people should go to prison.
Fun fact:
In 2010 the average MPs salary was £65,738
In 2023 the average MPs salary was ££86,584
Seems like the only people that benefit from UK politics is UK Politicians...
Rising to £91,000 this year.. Unbelievable
