Tory MP, Dehenna Davison defends this saying:
"Any government would've seen inflation and low growth."

It's a fact that when the Tories won in 2010 they blamed Labour for the world subprime Banking crisis that had nothing to do with Labour policies. Come covid in 2020 the Tories are blaming a covid pandemic that they mishandled anyway on global forces, but the global forces in 2010 don't count, but for their argument they do in 2020. In 2010 the Tories stated that they would in one parliament use Austerity, the contraction of our economy to pay off the national debt. 14 years latter Austerity is still with us. The failure of it is for us all to see too little police, the implosion of our rundown legal system, schools crumbling, health the NHS in crisis a 4% a year contraction in our economy due to Brexit. Rivers and coasts riddled with sewage.
Eventually how ever that Tory tries to tell us things are actually fine no one believes them anymore.

I can remember being in a Building Project funding meeting with Natwest/ RBOS senior management, as his Project Manager and Agent, together with the Project Owner and his Contractor in late 2005 or 2006. I asked the quite modest question of the Senior Natwest Manager present "what is your exposure to the American Sub-prime Mortgage crisis?" All the while knowing full well that he was. My client, the Project Owner, told me to shut up and I did. Two years later, and well into the project, Natwest/RBOS were virtually bankrupt and they pulled his funding (something like £36million) with less than 24 hours notice, and I and his legal team were left to pick up the bloody pieces.

Yet the people voted them in with a clear majority. Tories can be blamed for so much and i’d like to see them all in Prison quite frankly but we also have to look at the people who continually voted for them, and those who don’t vote at all as that is still a vote for them. Dehenna Davison just proved why we're in such a mess. In 2010 when the tories came to power, interest rates were incredibly low, they could have borrowed cheaply and invested in the country, but their insane ideology was austerity, which has destroyed public services, so that they could give private contracts to their donors.
Rishi Sunak has given out £800 billion since 2020 (£16K for every adult in the country) they now owe that money, and high interest to the super rich (billionaires across the UK are around £720M richer each!), making the government and us burdened with debt. They have ruined the economy, public services, housing, the NHS, education, pushed rents up and all the while allowed water and energy to make massive profits, the likes of which have never been seen before.
We are all poorer due to Conservative corruption of the highest level. Anyone who wants to understand this should watch Gary's Economics on here.

    • @jamespeters7775

The list goes on. Sadly there is no innovation or foresight from this govt

I've been retired for nearly 4 years. I've lived in my home for over 27 years. When I retired I had the same income as when I bought the house in 1996. My house is apparently worth 7 times what I paid for it. That very fact is a disgrace from which I take no comfort as I'm not about to move to a South Seas island where the money I have apparently accrued might have some benefit, except I have no wish to live there. The fact that average rent paid across the UK is now at over £1800/ month and increased by 8.5% in the last 12 months is also a disgrace and should be a matter of national shame. Only after 14 years do the Tories think it's time to introduce a Bill to protect renters. Most Tory MPs own properties which they rent (and quite a few of those have been bought and paid for by taxpayers). This country is a farce critically damaged by liars and thieves.

New research backs this up "Attempts to reduce debt via fiscal consolidations have very likely resulted in a higher debt to GDP ratio through their long term negative impact on output."
Austerity was a complete failure, we've had low growth and increased inequality, which is why we have ended with an economy that only benefits the very wealthy.

This whole credit card analogy really winds me up. If the country could be compared to anything, it would be a business, and a business prospers via investment and looking after and incesting in its' people and delivering great products.
If a business makes it's own trade harder, lets directors and investors embezzle money and causes it's workforce to die off of be unable to come to work while having no plan for the future and using outdated technology then it's obviously going to struggle.
