A Hebridean Odyssey: Part 5 - South Uist & Benbecula EDITED - ORIGINAL BLOCKED DUE TO COPYRIGHT

It is the fifth in a series that documents a trip taken in May 2022, in which we visited 16 of the Hebridean islands. This episode is a video diary of places visited, scenery seen and roads driven on the islands of South Uist and Benbecula in the Western Isles. South Uist is joined to Eriskay to the south by a causeway and comprises miles of wild, windswept empty beaches to the west, fringed with vast flat expanses of machair; quiet roads to explore off the main spine road, and mountains, lochs and moorland to the east. There are many catholic churches and shrines dotted around. To the north of South Uist, across a causeway, lies the island of Benbecula. The east side of the mostly flat island is scattered with lochs and lochans and contains its only hill. To the west are beaches, machair and an airport and army base at Balivanich. Sadly the weather was not as kind as it could have been, and rain meant less filming was as possible as I would have liked.

Glad you sorted this video out, building the causeway did help the travelling from Lewis to Barra, think we had to get a ferry from Loch Boisdale to Barra before the causeway was built but then we used to stay two nights on Barra
Beautiful (great recovery). For some reason I always thought of Lochs as a mainland thing - but there are 'enough to shake a stick at' on the islands it seems - obvious really. 😉
As well as numerous sea lochs, these islands are studded with lochs and lochans. A satellite view of North Uist and Benbecula in particular looks like a sieve! These change colour according to the weather - we saw them a deep navy blue through to turquoise.
Started with Part 5;) absolutely stunning views. I LOVE no talking with the occasional written update/location. Music perfect. I am going to look for Part 1 and enjoy your superb treat for those of us who will never get there. Thank you.
Thank you so much Vikki for your kind comments and appreciation of the music. Some don't like it and would prefer ambient sound but to be honest these beautiful islands are so windy that all you'd get would be a howling gale! I sincerely hope that the other "episodes" give you pleasure. Thank YOU.
The music is indigenous to the culture. Violin and harp especially suited, they bring to the incredible views a sense of ancient times. Don't change anything.:)
@@vikkiroig464 So glad you "get it". There are some fabulous composers of Celtic music and I particularly enjoyed using the music Sam Dickens has written for each island from the album The Soul of the Western Isles.
@christinamandacodgerinahat l will look for a DVD. My grandmother was born in County Clare, died before l was born. Iam 79 years old raised on this music. So your superb YT channel is a wonderful gift for me.

How does it compare to Islay
Sorry - cannot comment as I haven’t been to Islay. Only Inner Hebridean islands we’ve visited are Skye, Mull and Iona.
