      I agree with SAS completely and knowing one person with actual Bipolar disease and another with schizophrenia 90% of these people are out here talking BS simply because they had a mood swing (because there situation changed)
      when you actually know people who have to be medicated to sleep because if not there bipolar kicks in at the loss of consciousness and they litterally take on different personality and will stay up days on end till they pass out on there driveway. It makes it hard to take these celebrity cases of convenient disorder seriously.

      To be fair he landed in Cleveland, with a head coach who DID NOT want him, the odds were so stacked against him from the jump. I would like to see him on a different team with a coach who actually is willing to give him more time to get his legs under him, the coach he had did not wanna play him period, yes he had chances but they were brief and not very ideal for a rookie to be able to learn and develope in the league.

      Mordero 96 I have profound respect for the mental health community and those who live/suffer with mental illness and conditions. It’s hard to bash the guy for getting help to address his issues but as SAS said, it’s different when someone is just sharing their journey than when they WANT something. It’s unfortunate because people want to help others but people also want to take advantage of other and circumstances.

      I AM MATA No one said for a fact he doesn't, dumbass. If you actually paid attention to the video, sas was saying there was a cause for concern, and that sometimes people claim "mental disorder" when they want sympathy. It is a proven fact that a lot of people that claim to have a mental disorder, we're lying, which ruins it for others, who really do have mental disorders, because they garner the attention of the masses, and take away the sympathy from people who actually need it. Of Manziel really does have a mental disorder, than I hope he gets the help he needs, bit don't be so quick to feel sorry for someone, who a year ago was living a life completely different than someone who suffers from bipolar disorder

Secondly, he wasn't making excuses, he recognizes that he has made mistakes. But in the interview they asked what changes have you made and he answered the question. He didn't say "I did this cuz I'm bipolar", he said I'm taking my medication for my bipolar disorder.

      Honestly you can put Kaep, Tebow, and Manziel into the same category of below average quarterbacks with HUGE media circuses that follow them all for different reasons. The locker room distraction alone isn't worth bringing to a championship or competing team. Not everything is about talent. They're a business at the end of the day. Money talks.

    I realize Stephen A has to play a certain character on this show, but I fully agree with him here. He is being himself in this segment. In most cases, people come to the end of a mindset once the behaviors are no longer lucrative. Living inauthentic is a decision, not always a medically labeled disorder. My channel speaks on this often.

    • @truecrimejungle
      @truecrimejungle Před 6 lety +12

      yeah, I 100% agree that the theory makes sense. However, in johnny's case it not only makes sense, but he's using a medical condition that's very easy to diagnose and very hard to fake. Substance abuse alone is much more widely used as a reason for sympathy, I disagree bi-polar is widely used for that.

    • @jazbethea6849
      @jazbethea6849 Před 6 lety +5

      I think if I’m understanding you correctly you’re implying that the poor behavior on Manziel’s part was a publicity stunt. I can’t buy that though. The behaviors he displayed ruined his career. They weren’t just little things here and there that made him an edgy bad boy. He torpedoed his pro football career. I think that would be a counterproductive outcome if this was all just a show for fame.

    • @EVERETTOVERTON
      @EVERETTOVERTON Před 6 lety +1

      Jazmine Bethea allow me to explain. What I'm saying is we all possess some form of God-given talent, but if we live and behave unconsciously, we will pay a huge price. I think one can torment themselves to a point of then tagging a medical label as the reason. In some cases, yes, people are legitimately bi polar...and a proper diagnosis and treatment is necessary.
      But when any person lives wild and crazy, full of unhealthy ego....and undisciplined...they will squander not only a career, but even their own spirit man/woman....which no one really want to go inside....but quickly to the doctor.

  • @TheTruthiest
    @TheTruthiest Před 6 lety +1

    I have a doctorate in the field and I agree with Stephen A. Smith. Bipolar disorder is the most over-diagnosed disorder in the field. That's been proven with numerous studies. Over half the people who come to me and tell me they have bipolar disorder don't really have it. Many people are diagnosed with it when they really have substance abuse or personality disorders. I don't know the details of Manziel's case, but he seems to fit that pattern.

    • @el_duderino_man
      @el_duderino_man Před 6 lety

      TheTruthiest So, you are accusing your colleagues of over diagnosing, but who is to say it isn't you misdiagnosing patients. I feel like humans care too much about one another careers and not enough about actually living and enjoying life. Give the dude a fucking break, he's a college graduate and he is still supporting himself financially. That's a successful man in my opinion. He does not need to go back to the NFL.

    Stephen A’s point is a powerful and controversial one, but also, I think, an important one. It can be dangerous in two ways. 1. He can say that and ppl might think he’s not taking mental health seriously. 2. He can say that and be protecting mental health and not letting it be used as an excuse for ppl who trying to get sympathy from the public. Awesome topic and so much to digest. I usually don’t like Stephen A’s points he brings up, but this is a good one

When I was boozing and partying I turned into a loud mouth asshole. When sober I'm a completely different person. We all are. That was Johnnys personality disorder.

    I have bipolar and when good things happen I can still feel like shit and believe I don't deserve good in my life and I would just want to self harm because that's what made me feel good. Bipolar is not a light switch. I was listening to Stephen A and he had a point. It didn't matter if I'd drink, I'd always feel like abusing myself or if I'm manic then that's what I was. It don't have to come after a job well done in something. Mania can fuck me up to the point I'm flexing and punching myself to prove how I can't feel pain because I'm super. I can be dangerous to myself and weird to others. And plus I have schizophrenia and I'm not going there. But when I was in track and would win, I'd still feel like shit and would harm myself in the locker room. I'd feel the schizophrenia too. I thought some people in the stands to watch the track meet were demonic but couldn't pinpoint. Shit happens, even when I'm good. That's how my illnesses work.

      Marcelo Rivadeneira No one said for a fact he doesn't, dumbass.

Yeap, there's that, "But" and all the negative trash talk begins. "I love Kapaenick, I truly respected him...BUT". Same goes for Michael Irvin, Dak, Ray Lewis. You can sugar coated anyway you wanted it Stephen but where I come from, it's called "kissing their ass before you spit right on their face". Nice one Stephen. Love you man, BUT often, you're just too cruel man.

    It is so easy to pretend and fake bipolar disorder without a doubt, it is insanely easy to get diagnosed with it as well. Truthfully, if you have something that you hold onto and that makes you sad randomly you can go to the doctor this very instant and say " I literally go from the happiest person in the world to the saddest person in the world simply because i've lost something that's very important to me. I can't come to terms with losing it, but some days i truly feel as tho i've gotten over it and I'm happy as i can possibly be, and bam again it hits me randomly and im down and out and i don't wanna speak to anyone. " that's the exact statement i gave to my doctor and i was immediately told i was bipolar. I suffered from " Hypo mania and mania. When in reality i was just having a hard time accepting things that happen in life. Some people do things to themselves that they can't come to terms with and ultimatley drown themselves just like Johnny did. It's not always a mental illness you're dealing with but simply something deep down in yourself that you have to realize. Do you want this to affect you for the rest of your life yes or no.

      what u say is true but it makes no sense to use bipolar disorder as a fake considering its symptons are very severe and are clear as day. they have an obvious affect on not only the person who has it but everyone that is close to them. ive seen it first hand (my former roommate had it) a 6 year old would be able to tell that something is seriously wrong with someone who is having an episode.
