It's so shocking how poorly the pro-Palestinian side knows history. The Arab-Israeli conflict is extremely complex and nuanced; it's not a matter of "Palestinian good, Israeli bad" or the converse, but that's how they often make it out to be.

What was the language of the country of Palestine? What was the prevalent religion of the country of Palestine? What was the name of its currency and what was the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian monetary unit against the US dollar, German mark, GB pound, or Japanese yen on any particular date? And, finally, since there is no such country today, what caused its demise and when did it occur? If these so-called "Palestinians" are anything but a generic collection of Arabs from all over the rest of the Arab world and if they really have a genuine ethnic identity that gives them right for self-determination, then why did they never try to become an independent and sovereign nation until Arabs suffered their devastating defeat in the Six Day War in 1967? 🤔

The root of the word is still used in modern every day Hebrew (פלש / Invade), every Israel knows that word including arabs. The real issue is that the new word Palastine (English), Palastin (Hebrew) or Falastin (Arabic) sounds different (to the modern/ancient Hebrew root for the word) although it shares the same root. Speaking of which many words from both Arabic and Hebrew share common roots, since the languages conjugate words from semitic languages using roots. You can't expect people busy thinking about their job wife and children to worry about linguistics and origins of words, so it's not that crazy, it's like expecting every American to know key latin origins of words, many don't. However, I guess the conflict is big enough today to shed more light into it. I think that's pretty harsh. I think what happened is she's heard this all her life and believes it to be true. She probably never did the research and may have had literature that confirmed it for her without her knowing it was fiction. She might be very bright. I refuse to get on the anger/outrage train for every error. It just doesn't do good for anyone and I find the ubiquitously outraged exhausting.

I saw a video where someone was stopping people in London chanting "From the river to the sea" and asking them to name the river. It goes about as well as you'd imagine. They don't even look embarrassed when they don't know the River Jordan. You'd think they could at least guess the name of the river considering how famous it is. The positive side is that they actually say that they are not calling for the end of Israel. So it's just a catchy slogan, nothing more.

I even encountered in Quora where a user there is so convinced Palestine is named after a certain king Palesh, I tried to search the name of that particular king but found none. Some commenters there questioned that user but is met with ad hominem from that user. Even on X, I found a user who is trying to prove Palestine as an ancient sovereign state by using a map from Claudius Ptolemy (100-170 AD) which wrote Palastinis , but the problem is Ptolemy lived in the time when Hadrian already won the Bar Kokhba war and then renamed Judaea into Syria-Palestinae in 135 AD. Unfortunately many maps didn't survive to this day to strengthen the case.

Speaking of which many words from both Arabic and Hebrew share common roots, since the languages conjugate words from semitic languages using roots.

Even on X, I found a user who is trying to prove Palestine as an ancient sovereign state by using a map from Claudius Ptolemy (100-170 AD) which wrote Palastinis , but the problem is Ptolemy lived in the time when Hadrian already won the Bar Kokhba war and then renamed Judaea into Syria-Palestinae in 135 AD. Unfortunately many maps didn't survive to this day to strengthen the case.
