Who else wants to see Emma play along to the full song?!
True dat...
Me !!!
Here!
I've been playing drums for 40+ years. I have worked as an audio engineer, I write music and lyrics, have produced records. You have put all the right advice into this, you point to the things that actually matter, both in terms of drumming but also the arranging, how to make THE MUSIC work. I really enjoy drum tutorials that aren't just about the drumming but rather talk about how to actually be a musician playing music, how to work together in a team on a common workpiece. This is one of these videos. Thank you very much!
Thank you!!
Emma, there are a ton of drumming videos on CZcams. I subscribed because you are so great at getting directly to the point while outlining the pitfalls as you go. Thanks for an awesome channel and for re-igniting my love for drumming! Seriously, 100% top-notch. Keep killing it, you make me think I can kill it too.
Fantastic tutorial! How you play is as important as what you play so I love how much you addressed that. I’d love to see a video like this for All My Life. The drum groove on the bridge of that song is so rad
Thank you so much! I'm about to make your day haha - here's my video on All My Life czcams.com/video/feupE-eitCE/video.html
Been drumming for 30 years- love watching your entertaining and informative videos.
Your personality is brilliant. Subscribed for more drummy goodness
i started playing early september and i seriously appreciate your videos with the simple grooves and you sometimes post challenges that really push my skill and like no one else does that! thank you for doing what you do :)
Love the way you speak!!! "Do youself a mischief" no one says things like this anymore, love it 😊
A test of foot endurance?!?! Imagine when these people find out about George Kollias 😬😬😬😳😳😳
Done this song in the past, there is a lot to work on to get it all tight and neat. Thanks Emma!
I love slide bass pedal technique!! It’s just like trying to do an Ollie on a skateboard! I try to use the example of letting the stick bounce is very similar to letting the pedal bounce. You’re catching it on the rebound of the stick and catching it on the rebound of the pedal too.
I’ve been playing drums for over 20 years and have been teaching drum lessons for about five years now. But I still watch your videos because you make your lessons, so smooth and easy to understand. Keep up the amazing work.!!
"The Pretender: A Test in Stamina & Foot Speed?" I am here for when this amazing drummer girl discovers death/black metal.
Dominator - a testament of stamina x'D
Hi Emma, as a recent subscriber I have to say I love your videos. You have an incredibly engaging and clear way of explaining songs and techniques which is really helpful. If I may, I'd like to offer two suggestions. 1- in videos like this it would be a nice touch and very helpful if you could tell us what BPM the actual song is in. 2- When you mention a previous video you've done on a subject it would be great if you could put a link up on-screen. Just some suggestions. Thanks for all the hard work you put into creating the videos and your generosity in sharing your talent. Best of luck with the channel.👍👏
Love playing this song. Good way of testing one's stamina. But myself. Im just an animal and live the energy of the whole song
I love how you explain all the parts. This is short, concise and very clear. I only wish you had actually played the song at the end to show all the parts together
Only just found this channel last week. Brilliant videos and well explained
I have always loved your content. Had to learn and perform this song about 2 months ago, and man- I wish that I had this video available back then. Still, great for helping me improve on what I already know. Thanks!
Amazing video!
I've recently discovered your channels and am very grateful for such thorough videos (especially for reference). Despite having played drums for over 10 years - small concepts and techniques as shown in your videos are *always* relevant to even "refresh oneself with". Added to that - I wish to compliment your "on-camera" presence as you seem exceptionally comfortable teaching music (and to have it translate through video "says something" to me about your skill as a teacher).
From my experience (even recently) - some other great songs to try for these techniques could include:
"Good Grief" - Foo Fighters (Self-Titled Album - also with Dave doing the ridiculously aggressive drumming!)
"Immigrant Song" - Led Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin III - of course I'm sure everyone thinks of "this song" or whatever personal equivalent for "proving to yourself that you have foot speed and foot stamina" haha)
Lastly, and to my (very pleasant) surprise - "Old Brown Shoe" - The Beatles (The Beatles 1967-1970 - THIS SONG!!! Wow - apparently Ringo was saving his hidden strength and stamina for "the one Beatles song he was allowed to play like that on", haha - but truly, this song not only requires massive leg and foot stamina in the chorus, but your arms will feel sore from the entire song and what he's playing on the hi-hat, snare, and sometimes floor toms!)
I'm super grateful that videos and creators like yourself exist and help promote such incredible information and knowledge about technique and theory. Thank you so much even for this single video! I hope you have a blast (beat) of a day!
P.S. - If you love the "heel-toe" technique - firstly, I envy you for having feet small enough to achieve it more easily, hahaha! And secondly, the ultimate "I've mastered heel-toe" feeling is successfully playing "literally anything" by Zach Hill, who I believe is, without hesitation, my favourite drummer and an all-time inspiration! (Also I apologize if you've either heard people rave about Zach Hill too much already, and/or if you've never heard his music before and it only "scares you", haha /s)
First off, let me say, I absolutely love your videos. That being said, I like the look and sound of the videos that appear like you did them in your garage, next to the washing machine; or maybe the mini fridge. The mix in those videos is a lot better. Those videos seem warmer and friendlier; like you dropped by my house to show me something cool. This video, looks like somebody is managing you, and is trying to "improve" an already great product. If you continue with the DW kit, I recommend dumping that 58 mike and use a 57; the mix in this video is thin. If this had been the first video I had seen of you, I would have never followed you. Sorry I'm so critical. Bring back the enthusiastic "girl next door", who comes by to show me the latest cool drum lick.
awesome personality, talent and teaching skills! life sometimes is very generous…
Wow nice new shed!!
Schweet, don't go too far; we love your as you're are
I just played that song in front of 200 people😂
Nice one ..hope you smashed it 🤘
God damm, how was it?
@@Shayos it went very good!!
@@Wwteuninator :D
Thanks for letting us know
you should do my hero killer foot control sixteenths on the kick, hat on 1,2,3,4 and snare on 2 and 4
Good song to learn but if your looking for a stamina challenge I like to use iron maidens loneliness of the long distance runner and out of the silent planet, the second one is a test of the right foot in particular.
You're a really nice person. Thank you for being you.
I think I saw you play live in 2019 (feels like 20 years ago now). Don't remember the name of your band but you guys rocked!!
Ilona Mahieu! Where was it you saw us?
love your videos, and your very cool hoodie! Is it available anywhere? Thanks :)
The rim shot is the pinch harmonic of the drums
ughhhh making me want to play the drums again :0
Love this girl. Funny, engaging and informative. Thank you.
Lovely as always! ☺️ Thank you! This Song is by far a Killersong. Love it so much 😍 missing Taylor so much. And one thing i have to say at last: best Band ever ❤
Can you kindly do one video on finger technique
Lol, I normally use swivel technique. May you explain to me heel toe or give me hints that allows me get into heel toe, to see which one is better?
Heel toe i stumbled on one night. 230 am practicing and made a mistake. Ok not a mistake. Just not what i intended. But what i did sounded light years beyond where i was as a drummer. So i spent the next 20 minutes figuring out what i did. Then the next 6 hrs burn muscle memory into my body. Did i mention im an animal when it comes to drums? My calf muscle hurt for 3 days after. But i had something i could blast out in a whim. Ok i over played it in fills doing hyper triplets and quads.
I tell ya 4 all u new / intermediate drummers. Petals matter! I had a ok pearl. Recently I bought DW 5000 (I think she's using 1). My god the difference it's night and day! Yes i spent $500 on 1. I'm also in a band gigging 3-5xs a month. Money well spent. I'm using less energy and got a lil more speed.
Can you do a video on coming up with drum intros? I was listening to “A History of Bad Men” by The Melvins recently and I find that intro so memorable!
Excellent🤘
“This is rock music, people”…
You tell ‘em!
I love your vidéos and cool energy 🤩 I learn a lot with you.
I don’t understand the angle of your second Tom
Can someone explain to me please ? I’m not an expert
do you have vid or can you make a vid on how to get a faster kick drum? The fastest I can use my kick drum in time is about 100bpm and that is with my heel up. My drum teacher uses a sort of swivel technique so can you do a vid on like how to properly use the kick drum and play it fast?
Heel-toe rocks! 🤘🏾
rimshots and moeller strokes = lots of power and control
How does this compare with Bonhams Achilles Last Stand opus ?
I'd say Stryper's "In God We Trust" is the ultimate single pedal stamina test.
You made me laugh so much as a cheeky drummer.
Might be a bit out of your wheelhouse but would love to see you breakdown some iconic Joey Jordison drum parts.
I think you're amazing.
"... who wishes to remain anonymous" 😂😂
Hi I'm Mees and I'm a rimshot addict.
❤👍👊 have you covered funeral pyre?
Woe!! Hang on! Don't dis the pinky finger sticking out thing.
I utterly have no respect for drummers that hit hard and don't know how to leave that pinky finger in danger.
Try it. It works better .Pinky finger out or in makes a difference. Pinky difference is important.
Tried this today and I gotta say, it really works! Now I've got no pinky... No pinky no problem! 😂
Damn wish you played it I like getting you talk it's adorable but wish you played it after it sat done point
I tried the heel toe but I think my feet are too big to make it effective. So I used the slide technique :).
You don't need a ssmall foot to do heel toe at all, just ask jared from drumeo!
while i agree, it does help though. hard to make your heel hit the pedal if it extends over it by a mile
@@hazardeur That's where the term heel toe is misleading. Executed properly you don't actually use your heel mainly the ball of your foot. Any foot size, any shoe or bare foot any pedal it can be done. As with everything it's ALL ABOUT CORRECT TECHNIQUE!
not really true in all situations. the slower you go, the less that ball-of-your-feet pivorting is true. ever tried to play 130 bpm 16ths with heel toe? yeah. your heel will be used. at least if you want to have the tiniest bit of control and volume @@benking9160
Ничего не понял, но очень интересно
These rack toms make me nervous
Real test is everlong
You must be Dex Starr's sister😅
Everlong is more the stamina test really
Clean and happy for years; gone with exactly ten (10) different substances in his system. Uhu, right?
Are you Gavin Harissons niece? 😂
This took forever to watch and she's not even playing it?
You skipped the intro, didn't you !! =oD I'd love to see her play it tho.
Too much talk !
Good lord, 10 minutes of yapping with 30 seconds of drumming😢
Ur faffing game is quite impressive 😭😭💀
Jusst too much talking...
Not one of our most concise lessons yet that’s for sure 😅
Maybe a test for a not real great drummer.
Good video.👍🏻
Seriosly? Pretender? Try some Archsipre song for stamina and foot speed)) or Dark Funeral for example
Way too much talkin....
