Have always been intrigued by these little mercs, love the way the driveshaft/powerhead is angled aft slightly....Runs real nice for a single cylinder....
Do you happen to know the fitting size for the fuel line? I inherited one and have been getting the boat around but needs a new fuel line and fittings .
I've recently acquired the same Mercury. Gives me something to look forward to seeing it running. Do you recommend any tech books on this particular motor? I'm also interested in any websites for good parts. Thanks
I recently acquired one of these 70's 4.5hp and the recoil or rewind spring unwound. Is there a trick to adding the spring tension back to the spring? Looks like there's a slot on the outside of the cowl/hood bolt, maybe a way to reload the spring? John
Hi! I have the same engine and I am kinda at a loss regarding the choke/fuel button. I noticed that you are driving wirh the button in the vertical position. Is that choke or fuel? Greeting from Sweden!
It’s the same as a shallow water drive, it flips down a little block plate that trims the motor upwards, and puts the force from the motor out of the water, as well as makes it take up less depth.
Hello I'm trying to replace the pull start my one put every time 😂 I pull it when it's back together it won't recoil the recoil spring keeps jumping out the notch is there a magical way to fit it lol 😂 never played with the 4hp recoil starter
That outboard would be perfect for a square stern canoe
Don’t underestimate the power of the single cylinder!

Looks and runs nice!

Bend a hook out with 2 sets of pliers
Is that a 2 or 3 blade propeller engine?
I have the same motor and mine is a 2 blade prop
@@kevinkearney398 Is there 3 blade props for these engines?
@@danielsvensson356 I believe so mercury sells a 3 blade prop that fits all 4hp motors
it's a '74. They made it a 4.5 hp for 1975, i think to pave the way for the 4 hp 'Gnat' in '76.
