I'm so glad I ordered swatches of different weights/mills before deciding on my first 8 yarder. The photos on the site do not do the colors/textures justice. The one mill I threw in as an afterthought when I was ordering swatches ended up being my favorite of the bunch (Batley) for the tartan I wanted (Ramsay Blue). It's not that any of the others were "bad" in any way but it was good to have them next to each other to compare.
How can you not put DC Dalgliesh at the absolute top in a class by itself? The only artisan mill left in Scotland. They can make you anything you want. Literally.
And so my kilt knowledge grows every day. Thank you.
Interesting to hear! I didnt realize that i like HOE so much until i starter actually making some wishlist items and pretty much all of them are HOE!
Dalgliesh
Hey guys, love the channel and have learned a lot about kilts and such. What I'm having a hard time with is staying in tradition as for clan wise... the tartan colors.I'm not sure as to what clan McKnight came from/with or does it matter? As for an ancestory aspect of it I havent had any luck on that. My grandfather was the one that started educating me about our Scottish/Irish history but unfortunately passed away when we were just getting into it ( I was early teen at time when he passed, I'm 50 now ). So I havent had much luck into obtaining any info other than the numerous name changes of McKnight and the different regions the name came from. And unfortunately I'm the only one in the family that has this interest. If you guys could direct me in a direct to learn more that would be awesome. Thanks.
Next kilt that I get will likely be from House of Edgar's Old and Rare line of tartans (and both the ancient and modern versions they make for my clan tartan are really nice). My current kilts are from Loccharron (I'm not a big fan of the Loccharron ancient version of my clan tartan, at least compared to the modern).

my Other CAR.....
Is a KILT
Seriously though; this is a good video for taking a moment to think about your kilt ( or can apply to anything); and what is the most important detail.
This advice can be applied to making a decision about anything.
Hello good sirs, I've greatly enjoyed watching you videos and have been looking with interest into my family line. My Grand fathers family, James Robert McCoy, (Yes of the Hatfield's and McCoy feud) goes back to 1714 here in the US having come from Ireland/Scotland. I trying to discover if the McCoy family has it's own Kilt tartan, or is it part of a larger clan and shares that tartan. I'd heard from Great aunt Nancy McCoy years ago that our family may have lineage with Clan MacKay. Would you know if that maybe true, and if so how that affects what tartan our family would have?
And love Nick 😂
Which mill makes the nicest looking Gunn ancient color wise? That nice green and blue.
MM or Loch: www.usakilts.com/gallery/13-16-oz-wool?keywords=gunn
What tartan is Rocky wearing in this episode, and from what mill? I really like that color palette.

And kirsty 👍
I'm curious which is softest. I like the look of wool but its very rough
The softest of the mills that stock supports tartans is probably Lochcarron's 16 oz
@@USAKiltsOfficial Then that's my next kilt! :-)
I'll have to see how their different Lindsay tartans look
I'm one of those oddballs that really like HOE ancient. And pretty soon I'll be ordering a premiere kilt in Campbell ancient. So my advanced apologies to the poor soul at USAKilts who will be putting that together for me.
HAHAHA... no worries, Allen. There are different color options for a REASON! Not everyone likes the same thing. :-)
I even bought swatches of my two top picks for 16oz., MM and HOE. Both are quite beautiful. I just like the slightly darker colors.
yeah, there are so many different tartans to choose
