Yes, it is pretty crazy. I have an HOA and I have my own property over 2 acres, but it's also mixed in with mobile homes and per the HOA. If I have a window unit, it has to be covered with some kind of lattice around it, or I can't have it up.

Mount the window ACs underneath the trailer and duct them into the trailer's ducts. We did this at a few beach cottages around here and they worked great. Best part was when the AC would croak, you'd go down to Home Depot, pick up another one, slide it in where the old one was and you're back in business for $500 instead of $5,000 for central air. Very quiet too.

Places have been doing that for years. If you don't pay for electric they will charge a fee for AC because it takes so much energy to run all summer. Or they will say it doesn't look good to have it hanging out window. One option is a portable unit with just a hose at window and nothing hanging outside and barely noticeable. Now understand this. I am NOT an expert, in any sense on this matter so take what I say as mere observation. My mother lives in a Trailer park that, recently, changed hands (ownership) and began to implement changes to their leasing policies. To clarify one little detail? My mom OWNS her trailer. The new owners, of the park, began taking over other trailers as "tenants" either moved out or agreed to the new policies. That happened as people completely moved out. (Many of the trailers there were some form of land contract or lease to own if they were not purchased) As the owners took back plots they began replacing or updating the trailers to then lease them out. The leases changed for these units and plots. One of the item in the lease did concern "Window Units" or installation of HVACs. If you were just renting the trailer you were NOT permitted to use window units without notification. The reasoning, as I gathered, was that these units are heavy and, often, improperly installed. Basically just shoved into the window without the use of any kind of hardware or support, The claim was? Doing that could place undue stress on the walls and frame of the trailer damaging it. The owners offered installation of the window units or HVACs. This incurred a fee, however, and your lease would see a rate change, namely increase in rent, to the rental units. Those who owned their trailers were free to do what they wanted without any rent increase. Perhaps this has become a common trend? One has to understand that if you rent the trailer you cannot do whatever you want to it just because you pay money. I feel for this lady. I really do, but I think the owners, of that park, are more worried about these window units damaging their property (walls and frames of these trailers) than they are about appearances. And be Honest? You know you do see an awful lot of window A/Cs just shoved into the windows in houses. Just resting on window frames with no hardware or support. I do believe the trailer park owners do have that in mind.
