Why are so many wonderful pieces of music not available on CD? I love "having" them rather than just having access to them. Of course, it's better to hear it on CZcams than not hear it at all, so, thanks for uploading.
We haven't finished discovering pearls in Central Europa's music. Thanks for uploading
What a life affirming symphony. The first movement made me want to get up and do something; I'm not sure what but something.
A really beautiful Symphony from a great talented artist, ten years elder than Smetana who collaborated with him. Unfortunately he had a nervous breakdown at 36 and never recovered, dying still young. Curiously, like Smetana number four is in all his dates. For sure he could have still written great things like this symphony. Third movement is at fantastic, Dvorakian level, and all this Symphony really makes me thinking to beloved Prague. An huge thank you for sharing.
Excellent Romantic age symphony. Again, never heard of Blodek. Thanks.
you probably for got you left a comment here
There must have been, at least at those times, an ambiance, an aura in the atmosphere of that lovely region of Europe, Bohemia, the southern of Deutschland, Österreich that inebriated its inhabitants with its natural beauty where Mother Nature shed her grace upon the geography of the region and all its living creatures making it possible to create these works of art. This lovely music produces the impression that there is a dialogue going on between the composer and Mother Nature. Exquisite symphony. It makes me dream of beautiful and pleasant landscapes, cordial and harmonious conviviality.
You express it all so well! Merry Christmas!
wow you wrote it so nicely - I was born and I live in Bohemia and i love my country. I hope every Czech citizen would see it like foreign people... but I think its the same all over the world - people just dont see what beauty they already have
Magnifique Merci Kuhlau
This is a very pleasing work indeed. It reminds me of the early Dvorak symphonies, of which I am particularly fond. There's an over-arching of sweetness coupled with silvery light that is enchanting. A gentle work most certainly.
The coda of the last movement is everything a Romantic symphony should be. It leaves the listener completely satisfied.
reallly nice music,... not heard of this composer... bravo!
Beautiful, another composer I'd never heard of, thank you for uploading this and also for the beautiful picture depicting Staromestske Namesti, Praha.
A very fresh invigorating and beautifully scored work.
Love the painting of Prague's Staroměstské náměstí with open umbrellas.
I second the comments of Fulvio Polce and Jacques Wilmore - "bellissima ... in pieno stile Romantico" and "never heard of ..." respectively.
That is great music!!!!!!!! Incredible skills this composer!!
È la generazione precedente a Dvorak.
Ottima sinfonia ,bene orchestrata e ottima performance.
Grazie Kuhlau .
Quite a brilliant symphony
This mysterial symphony is full of Courage, Love and Belief in the Victory 0ver evil ! Tepper Michael.
Finale più che notevole. Continua la sfilata dei grandi compositori Cecoslovacchi.
Compositori Cecchi. Czechoslovakia as a state was founded in 1918, this year we celebrate the 100th aniversary. Czechoslovakian nation was a political construction of the founder and the first president of Czechoslovakia Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. In 1993 Czechoslovakia splitted down into 2 sovereign states: Czech republic and Slovakia.
It really is worth listening to and revisiting.
Certamente un bellisima sinfonia in pieno stile Romantico!
Quite nice!! Happy to have discovered another lesser-known composer.
Thanks for introducing another great symphony by a neglected composer.
The first movement reminds me of looking at a distant carnival, through the mist or a light fog. It's also my go to piece when I want to lie down and relax.
Sempre grazie al nostro grande divulgatore.
One of the gentlest symphonies I know. Most amusing in the Trio section of the Scherzo - where the Strauss family join in.
Listening this symphony first time to me, Good may be our people come to love your play.
Like first light at dawn, this symphony opens the eyes to new promise and all the wonders of nature. Evocative of belief in the beyond and powers beyond observation, Vilem Blodek tugs heart strings, pulls at the nostalgic, and wakens dormant loves lives and wonders
THANKS, MY FRIEND, TO SHARE THIS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC
Interesting and very well structured symphony.
What a glorious scherzo!
This is beautiful
Lovely music (and picture). Thanks
What a beauty!
Lovely work. Deserves to be much better-known. (But isn't that true of classical music in general, these days?)
Yes, and also true for many composers, female and male.

Ese scherzo está increíble!
Many years ago there was a record section in the Tate library, Brixton, South London and they had a set of 10 inch LPs of Blodek's opera 'In the well'.
Anybody knows who made the painting of this video?
Beautiful Great sound Lets play more of these genious rarely heard composer
He wrote too little and died at the age of 39
Sinto a presença de Mendelssohn. Belo romantismo.
As good, at least, as any symphony by any other Romantic symphony composer, why aren't Blodek's works available on CD? "In the Well" just doesn't cut it.
Bello lo Scherzo.
Very beautiful scherzo 👏
Fabulous painting - who's the artist? Thanks for posting this!
Good good well. Kiệt tác âm thanh.
Powerful!
très beau scherzo
❤
This is a banger
Actually, I this symphony reminds me somewhat of Mendelssohn. Poor Blodek died at 39. Wish he had lived to write more music!
Thanks for injecting a bit of humour. We do tend to get a bit over serious
@John Davies hahaha, thanks for the humor that Mendelssohn killed him! Even he died decades before Vilem!
No commercial recording of this piece? Anyone can help?
Yes, there are 2 or 3 commercial recordings at the Czech Radio, Prague, www.rozhlas.cz, www.radioteka.cz
Wonderful work, sounds like Dvorak?
As Blodek wrote this before Dvorak wrote his first one, more likely Dvorak sounds like Blodek. Vilem Blodek deserves to be included with the other "big B's" of music in my estimation.
What is the name of the painting/artist please.
Fantastic work in a Dvořák vein....been looking for it on CD everywhere......anyone know if its an official release ?
Nice Symphony. But what has happend at time-index: 30:35 while the last movement? The sound changes there, as if somebody switched from stereo to mono...
I think it have to do that it is an old-ish radio recording, the quality is not always perfect.
What’s the background artwork? Artist?
30:34 what happen i though i have hearing problems. Impressive symphony
Movement three slaps
Charming symphony. But in as much as this symphony is identified as having been written in 1859, and young Dvorak didn't write his first symphony until 1865, it probably shouldn't be described as being in "the Dvorak vein." Perhaps Dvorak's influences weren't only Brahms and Wagner....
Or perhaps Dvorak wrote in the Blodek vein?

L'audio non è dei migliori.
It's sad to think that such buoyant music could have been penned by a composer who was afflicted with the same emotional anguish as Robert Schumann. I'm not being sarcastic when I note that it's a shame Europeans didn't know about the uplifting benefits of Matcha green tea back in the 19th Century.
