  • We talked about the intricacies of the possibilities faced by the IGCSE students where the lack of calculators and diverse guides leaves these students confused. Which further leads to a myriad of psychological and social disturbances that could’ve been prevented with a few precautionary steps and support from it’s family.

    Making the move
    It’d be recommended that the student make the right move at the right time, which is moving to preferably a CBSE school as soon as they finish their IGCSE’s, and carry on their education from here further on. CBSE’s syllabus matches well with JEE/NEET’s curriculum and is thus the most suitable board to attend. However the shift from IGCSE to CBSE itself would not be an easy road, however a few of our ex-students had a few tips that we think would be of great help to you.
    IGCSE curriculum relies on the well-being of the students knowledge and wants it’s students to have options when it comes to learning. However on the other hand, the CBSE curriculum wants it’s student to mug-up “rich” content in order to have the upper hand in colleges.
    To overcome the knowledge gap it’d be recommended that the child prepare themselves the right way. It’d be best of you start practicing whilst in the last few weeks of IGCSE. You should still only focus on your IGCSE exams, however you can implement a few of these actions to start your transition. One of them would include to start practicing mental math, you can do this by avoiding the calculators for minor calculations and later move on to the intrinsic ones.
    Once the IGCSE examinations end you’ll have around 4 months to transition, this is where you can get your NCERT books and join classes , or.. save a whole lot of money by logging on to merit store and downloading our resources at a reasonable price.
    Adapting to the move
    Now that you’ve made the decision and worked your butt off during the vacations it’s now time to implement and perform well in your CBSE curriculum. Make sure you stay on par with your CBSE curriculum as you will not be allowed to give the exams unless you score at least 75% in these exams, another crucial part of the CBSE curriculum are the practicals so donot let yourself hinder there either.
    It’d be recommended that you spend at least 4-5 hours after school everyday practicing and revising what’s been done in school and slowly transition into past papers and NCERT books. The secret to be able to solve JEE/NEET effortlessly is to be able to solve papers in a time constraint.
    You can tackle this by solving as many past papers and possible and checking your papers yourself to understand where you’re having problems.
    Maintaining your motivation and productivity
    Once you’ve built momentum, it’s important that you maintain this. You can either do this by making a time-table with set number of breaks, having enough time for your social and family life. You can even have minimum time-consuming hobby in order to have an outlet for your stress.
    Tips for parents/students/teachers watching
    Be supportive, be interested in your child’s works and wishes
    Communicate
    Work for quality not quantity
    Appreciate each other’s effort’s and often express gratitude
    Believe in yourself.

    To be frank, believing (5:48) that our children can achieve a certain goal is what leads parents to push their children to work harder or join a course, a class or a stream.
    Not every modern day child today is willing to or is able to put in the "hard work and hours" that the preparation of conventional and tough entrance exams like JEE and NEET and now the CUET demand. Yet these children feel left out when they fail to make the grade or if they succeed in making the cut, then too they often wonder if this is what they wanted.
    I am not at all sure that the higher education and professional space is generous enough to accomodate such vacillations without a significant physical, mental, emotional and financial cost being borne by the vacillator and their parents.
    Getting their children to prepare for higher education in this highly competitive world and country in particular takes a heavy toll in more ways than one, on parents too.
    We are told right from the day the child is born to let him/her grow naturally at his/her pace, discover his/her passions etc and then suddenly on reaching high school we are bombarded with information to buy this reference material, that course book or question papers, join this class or that course to help our child ace XYZ entrance exam and ABC should be the number of hours a student preparing for competitive exams must put in. The description box of this video itself advises students to put in 4-5 hours AFTER a 7 hour school + commute to ace competitive exams. Mind boggling indeed!

    I would like to do A Levels and prep for JEE at the same time - starting next yr. (Am an A/A* student.) Is that hard? I do not want to move to CBSE or HSC. Are there minimum subject requirements to be able to apply for JEE - meaning should I be taking PCMB and English in ALevels?

    • @Meritstore
      @Meritstore  Před 6 lety +2

      A level is good from the concept point of view .. but you must get the hang of solving the JEE paper and its structure and time. which means the practice of past 20 yeas papers is very important
      you must solve on a daily basis
      120 MCQs of Physics
      100 MCQs of Chemistry
      80 MCQs of Maths

    • @aham-asmi
      @aham-asmi Před 6 lety

      Merit Store Thanks a lot for replying. 300 MCQs a day! That's 4 hrs approx? I will be writing my IGCSE exams in March 2018 and so will be starting AS level in 2018 which means I will have approx 20 months prep time for JEE. Does that 300 MCQs number still apply?
      How different are the syllabi of NCERT and A Level - wrt difficulty level/content? Does A level cover all the portions covered in NCERT? Will I find it difficult to manage school work and jee prep say if I go for jee coaching classes...planning to take PCMB - considering the practicals and such. please guide.

    I came here searching how to shift from cbse to IGCSE and found this 😂
    Now almost all Indian parents want their child to get into IIT but the truth is it’s damn tough. So then instead of IIT what about those parents who wants to explore foreign universities for undergrad? Keeping the cost aside, shall I get my son into IGCSE from 9th std? Or shall I continue with cbse till 10th and then shift to IB for 11th & 12th?
    That’s the answer am looking for
    Any suggestions are welcome
