The Dangers Of Low Tide Desert Point - Surfing Lombok

- čas přidán 3. 10. 2020
- Desert Point is well known as one of the best left-hand barrels in the whole world, so we decided to head there a few days ago to see what all the fuss was about!
The waves weren't huge but there were still some excellent barrels being ridden, mostly down at the extremely shallow inside section. 13 year old @bela_nalu (Daughter of Brazilian big wave surfer, Everaldo "Pato" Teixeira) found out just how shallow, experiencing a nasty wipeout at 5:22. Although it initially looked like she had suffered an injury, she was totally fine and was laughing it off shortly afterwards.

Its so nice not to hear any obnoxious music as the soundtrack to these killer barrels. It was so calm and serene. That place looks like a little piece of Heaven on Earth.
Thanks 👍 Yeah, it's an epic set-up and we are back here filming again so expect more footage soon!
Thanks for just having the natural sounds
So mesmerising, I dig the unique angles you guys got, really portrays the whole scene
Cheers, Jacques! Appreciate it mate. More swell on the way 🤘🙂
Great video. Great surfing spot. Surfing is great. You can look at it endlessly.
Last time I visited was back in '94. Back then the only access was by boat. we chartered a beautiful catamaran owned by Capt. Don and I'm sure he's still sailing the world right now. Brings back so much memories, Ship wrecks, Scar reef, Kaz point, Impossibles, etc,. I have done my share owning my scars there but those long rides are unreal! I wished I had a go pro back then Lol! Thanks for sharing!
unfortunately Capt Don from Moggy passed away Feb 2020 from another stroke - he was a good friend
Great footage, thank you.
Looks a glance from straight forward wave direction, like almost a rip tide situation but the rocks sort of are coved, looks safe. lol then the wall of sand sharps to butt lol love it.
On the bucket list! Nicely shot
Thanks. Good vibes from Brazil. 🤙🤙🤙
Awesome edit just ocean sounds and mad waves
the #1 wave on my bucket list. hope to have the opportunity to visit. great vid.
Thanks for the comment 👍 Hope you get to visit one day!
Thanks for not putting any music on. Enjoy that a lot.
Fo sho
Thank you for this.
I'm dying to go to Indo and to Desert Point, shame the place I'm at doesnt allow taking planes and also I couldnt afford anyway. Everyone should appreciate to be there, as lots of people like me cant pay for the trip. Amazing video thanks.
Sick waves out there
Great vid and that last sunset shot👍
Thanks 🤙🙂
Can someone look for my waterproof Kodak disposable please. I lost it on a mean wipeout back in 1995. Had some sick pics on it
Goofy footers heaven. Nice video mate, good drone skills too.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed 👍
The drone footage actually makes the wave look alot less scary than the angle from the shore where it looks like it all below sea level dredges.
Unreal vision! Any chance you remember the swell size for this day? Heading there in a week and would like to know what we're in for. Cheers 🤙
4:19 Helmet and booties, smart man. Does it have random uneven rocks on all sections?
Didn't have a chance to visit this spot back in 2010, hopefully when the pandemic is over😐 Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the comment. It's pretty shallow the whole way along the reef, but the inside section is particularly nasty as it often closes out over almost dry reef!
The low drone angle at 6:20 is so good. Very rare angle. Is it hard/dangerous to set a drone that low? Can you set some sort of hard deck for the drone? I'm beting its hard to make it all come together like that, well done
Thanks mate. So it's not actually as low as it looks, but I would never have tried to fly that low when I first started out. It does get a bit of spray on it almost every time I send it out though. Probably not too good for the drone!
What a spot
Really wish i had waves breaking like that where i bodyboard. It’s so nice.
A couple of bodyboarders were on it the next day. I'll have a dig through the clips and see if they got any good ones 🤙
would love to see some boogies who know how to tube ride here, lts like bodysurfing on a plane. Keep up the great work!
Boas ondas!🌊🌊🌊 excelente!😎☝
Obrigado! 👍🤙
I would have titled this vid: The Pleasures Of Low Tide Desert Point. I'm cleaning the drool off my keyboard after this.
lol you don't even surf, kook!
@@williamthomas9121 I live in Costa Rica. I probably surf more and better than you do. You flap your lips like you flap your arms frikin barney.
perfect video
Thanks 🤙🙂
‘Tis a beautiful thing .... 😍
It sure is! We'll be back next week for another medium/large swell 🤙
Great vid, much prefer the sound of waves instead pounding music! Thanks!
Thanks very much!
Goofy foot dream wave. It look super fun.
Definitely! 🤙
Good camera
beautiful :)
Thanks! 👍
🤙senang sekali...cemburu...so barrelled Terimaakasih atas clip ini. Cgreat surfing. Multo bem. Oh ewow
Terimakasih, Colleen! 👍🤙
Looks like it was worth the trip!
Great trip, but we'll definitely be back when it gets bigger!
Nice.
Thanks 👍
Wicked good video. How is the crowd there? Looks mellow?
Thanks so much! 👍 So there were actually a couple of pros there and most of the locals are rippers too, so I think it was quite a competitive lineup on that day.
@@global_zoo I last surfed there in September 1998, it was 4 to 5 foot clean waves and only 6 of us in the lineup from a boat trip from Bali, on our way to Sumbawa.
@@kristinehayes4885 Sounds epic. I was on a similar boat trip in 2010, but got to surf it with about 60 people 👎
Bang ke pulau sumba dan pulau rote juga, sama bagusnya ombak surfing belum terkenal masih secret 👍
Maybe we will go soon!
What’s your camera setup? It’s smooth!
We have quite a basic DSLR for the land camera - it's a Canon 200D. And we're using a Benro head on a pretty cheap tripod 👍
Is there anything around that you can go right?
Plenty of good rights in Indo, but they don't call it 'the land of the lefts' for nothing!
Sketchy shallow fast and hollow one of the best lefts on the planet
Awesome thanks. Is vid gopro
Thanks! So the driving at the start is taken on an Osmo Action (similar to GoPro), but the rest is taken on our DSLR and Drone 🤙
Don't see any dangers other than a rocky uneven reef. All I see are endless perfect waves.
The inside section is pretty evil, but you have to pay to play!
7:40 is ruthless
heaven
Im dumb, thanks for the video
that's just not fair
Rally good angles
Thanks very much 🙂👍
so whats the dangers? looks like fun little two feet peelers
We were mostly referring to the girl taking a licking at 5:22, and how dangerously shallow and sharp the reef is! 👍
@@global_zoo to be fair it didn't look like she should have been out there, skill level wise
was it relatively uncrowded because of coronavirus?
It has actually been reasonably crowded out there recently. 40+ guys at times...
@@global_zoo weree most of the crowd locals, or surf tourists?... thanks for responding
@@tormarquis Mostly tourists, expats, and some locals thrown in.
@@global_zoo thanks for the info.. I went to Gland a few years back.... crowds can ruin the trip if you can't compete.
I just posted the compilation featuring your content! Had a lot of good clips to work with! Let me know what you think!
Good stuff, Nathan. Creative editing and it's brought back of the memories of the season 👍🤙
I can see a few really danger things in here
1 you’ll hate your home spot
2 you are not coming back
3 you’ll lose your wife and work
Videos like this make me wanna be a goofy footer.
You rarely hear a goofy footer complain in Indo!
@@global_zoo thanks for sharing..nice video...👍
Always 🌐♥️🐈😼 hangin out toooo surf some fun left's when you can ⚡👍
about how deep is it?
About knee to waist deep on that inside section I'd say. Also the occasional dry spot!
@@global_zoo that is insane.
100% goofy foot!?
The girl was natural foot, but she copped a beating on the inside!
Does anyone surf with CROCS (shoes)
on those reefs? Seems like it could help HAHA
what danger? sharks?
local drop-ins
Goofy paradise.
Tinha que ser um brasileiro rabeando a onda do cara
Back in the days, you would share your best surf spots only with your buddies, this was surf etiquette... today you expose them to millions with a nasty click bait on youtube. It speaks volume about how sick and obscene is the world today. Desert point is definitely a near perfect spot but it's only surfable now thanks to the virus. Way too busy otherwise.
Relax, old man. You'll live longer! What a strange and over the top comment
Old man, as you call him, is right.
Old days= no cameras = no crowds.
New days = kameras=kooks + krowds.
Too true.
to be honest the barrels are soft as fuck ....and yes ive surfed it
Go away cheese
