    I'm researching to see if I will be happy with a 23mm offering for Fuji and I really agree with your thoughts around the 8min mark about how 23mm and 1.4 is not really going to give you mad subject isolation anyway, if you want that get a more telelens etc. Oath. And this is why I am feeling the 23f2 might be the real champ (even in 2022 with the newer updated 23/1.4 WR) because you get the value, size and weight bonus over the other two lenses. Now if Fuji made a 23mm f1.2 that would be a different story. I am liking a lot of what I am seeing from the new Nokton 23mm 1.2 but that thing is manual focus and really I need AF for my wedding and event work.
    Without a single f1 or 1.2 lens at 23mm for Fuji... I think you might as well accept the system for what it is and run with the 23/2.

    I love the 23 f2. I've been debating selling my 16 1.4 because I don't use it a crazy amount comparatively. When I started photography, I was taking more landscape pictures and architecture. Not I do mostly portrait and auto photography, so distortion isn't my friend. I use the 23 f2 much more now.

    Hey Matt thanks for the review, Im just wondering if this lens worth getting if I already have the 27mm WR pancake.

    Fuji 23 f2 is lovely lens for what it is, but I hope fuji make some updated small lovely f2 lenses just like what they did on x100v lens.

    Something you might keep in mind, as I decided to get the 18mm 1.4 linear motor. Basically this could work as a 23mm, as you can crop it. This lens is so sharp that it’s like two lenses in one. Close focus is also very impressive.
    At least that’s what I had in mind when I bought it, and it’s one less lens to carry.

      That’s a good point. I was kind of thinking about getting the 16 mm 1.4, selling my Fuji 23 f2 and getting a Viltrox 23mm 1.4 just to have that focal length and try rocking with that for a while

      The 16 1.4 is too slow in focusing and the 18mm is only 3 mm difference at 27 mm 35 equivalent. I absolutely love the images I’m getting from the 18 1.4 and it also has very close focusing. It’s an incredible lens!
      I think somebody can walk back-and-forth for 3 mm. 🤣
      Also the new linear motors on these new lenses as well as the increased sharpness is getting ready for a higher resolution megapixel camera for the future.

      Yeah that’s true I’ve just heard so much about the 16 1.4 and how magic it is I want to try it!

      @@MattJacobs Viltrox 23/35/56 are very nice if you like flat colours, poor contrast and purple fringing.

    Hi Matt, I enjoyed your video. I also have and enjoy the 23mm f2. I use it mainly for video with the xt4 (using IBIS). As you said It is versatile and quite sharp. I only have one complain : when panning using the xt4, I find that the video can become jerky because of Ibis trying to stabilize it. For this reason I have recently used the 18~55mm (ois + ibis) which is slightly more stable. As far as sharpness is concerned, personally I can’t really see the difference (except when using the zoom).

    • @MattJacobs
      @MattJacobs  Před 2 lety

      Yeah I always use the 18-55 on my gimbal with my XT3. Even with no IBIS it’s great!

    For the price, $449 USD, it’s a really difficult lens to beat regardless of brand or system. Solid WR, sharp all the way around while still having some character, the focusing is FAST, and the size is small without being too small. A great one lens for a one body set up

    Hi, how would you rate the 23mm f2 for low light or night photography?

    • @MattJacobs
      @MattJacobs  Před rokem

      It’s fine, just depends on if you’re doing low light/night stuff exclusively, could be good to invest in a cheaper manual focus lens at like 1.4 if you shoot in low light more often than not. The 23mm f/2 should autofocus fine, but all lenses struggle more with AF in the dark and f/2 will get the job done but you could cut your ISO in half with a 1.4 lens. Just a thought, also depends on your budget and if you’re a hobbyist or trying to make $ with photography

      @@MattJacobs Thanks, Matt! I plan to use this lens as my main travel lens (because of the copact size and WR) and only occasionally for night street photography.

    I understand why people use a phone to take pictures, most people have a phone on them at all times but the entire photography experience is missing when a phone is the only thing that you use to take pictures. I have a wide variety of cameras from panasonic, pentax, Olympus and fujifilm each has its own unique features and photograph experience, i have been able to take photos that i would not been able to take with a phone camera.
