Ensoniq did it all. Poly Aftertouch. Samplers. Digital Osc's into analog filters. Transwaves. Multitimbral. Workstations. Incredible keyboard splits and layers. Totally underrated. Thanks for all the great vids. Wish I had more time to watch them all, I'm tryin'.

Yeah, the first patch he played (Best Pad) sounded like a variation on the D50 "Staccato heaven" patch. And the third one (Borealis Pad) had a lot in common with the D50 'Fantasia' patch. The second patch (Genesis) reminded me more of the Korg wavestation however.

I love this! I have a TS12 myself and I don't think it gets enough attention as to what a great synth it really is. Strangely enough, the 808 drum-kit that this comes with sounds amazing!

man you have all my favorite synths from the 90s. this is so delicious and lush sounding. the EPS was my first sampler in 1998. I was huge fan of Ensoniq synths and samplers, heavy instruments with massive sounds. the dark blue LCD screens are so cool looking but what a pain in the ass to program they are! TS-12 was on my wish list in the mid 90s but I ended up getting a Roland XP50 instead.. which I still play every day :D

My first Ensoniq was an ESQ-1, which I loved for being multi-timbral (even though I hated the whole move from knobs to buttons thing in the 80's). I still have an Ensoniq SQ2 as my main controller (since it's my only 76-key unit), but also love a lot of it's built-in sounds (I have several factory demos of it on my channel...maybe some non-factory one since I can't verify), which sound quite similar to this. My main gripe about Ensoniq synths is that only the first few models that had analog filters were resonant...all the later digital filters (as far as I know) are non-resonant, so even if I build some basic saw or square wave sounds, I can't add resonance to them to try to mimic older analog sounds.

Of course we are supposed to program patches we like ourselves... I wonder how the SQ series was received when released? I guess it was competing(?) with mighty M1 or SY77. Cheers!

Hi Paolo, some great sounds there!
I'm a beginner player looking at 2nd hand ESQ-1,SQ-80, TS-10, TS-12, budget is $500-800 depending on the model.
Can someone please tell me pros and cons of each model? I know SQ-80 has disk drive and aftertouch, but I read somewhere the ESQ-1 had a more durable keyboard?
How do the different keyboards compare in feeling? I don't like too heavy hammer actions (TS-12?)...
I'm looking for warm 80s analogue type sounds... Being able to practice some piano on it would be a bonus but not a requirement.
I'd prefer the synth to act like a proper synth in feeling and sound :)

Shame Ensoniq and Emu don’t make synths anymore. Would be wild to see what they could come out with in today’s market. Seems to be a big focus on analog synths these days but very little in the sampler category (Prophet X and Quantum off the top of my head) and even less in the digital or FM synth category.

...and Kawai...and Elka/Generalmusic (GEM)...and Technics (WSA1!!!)...and Akai (AX-series)...and Siel...and Oberheim (the Behringer UB-Xa might help out here someday...)...and also Casio (with the exception of the XW-P1 / XW-G1). In addition it's unbelievable that 19 inch synth modules have already disappeared from the market. But why??? Are we all supposed to sit in front of a small table with a couple of monophonic mini-synths? And when will Yamaha finally give rebirth to the PortaSound series of keyboards to have a good starting point for kids (for example an 8-bit sampler with synth-edit sliders, AN1x filter section, some effects and USB/Midi-ports in an RGB-coloured casing)? >>> What a sad and uncreative world.
