The little boy (Danny Lloyd) wasn’t traumatizes at all. He actually had a good time filming the movie and didn’t see the finished result until he was much older. He didn’t stay in acting but he is an incredibly well-adjusted adult who teaches biology at a nursing college.
That's great to know
@@SomethingCinema They filmed the movie in such a way that Danny didn't know he was in a horror movie. I've met him a couple of times and he is very well-adjusted (he's a teacher in Kentucky). Near the end of shooting, he saw a skeleton sitting in a chair around a corner and began to figure out that something was going on, but he never knew he was in a horror movie.
That's great to know... too many stories come out about kids in movies so that's actually great to know
Kubrick's assistent Leon Vitali spent much time playing with the kids; he also found the girls that were cast to play the twins, characters created by Kubrick, they're not in King's novel.
That's great
Jack Nicholson going crazy is the best thing ever.
He was for sure going crazy
@@SomethingCinema I'm sorry, am I missing something? Is there ever a time where Jack Nicholas isn't going crazy? lol
😂😂😂 when he goes to the Laker games lol
@@SomethingCinema true.
😂😂
Shelly Duvall who played Wendy was BRUTALLY harassed by director Stanley Kubrick to create tension and fear in her performance. He was unapologetic and cruel to her. She had major anxiety problems after the fact.
So sad... she was apart of a great film but that's still so sad
Lol yea, that's the urban legend. Not in reality, though.
Oh really!??
@@SomethingCinema All the stories are bits from the 'behind the scenes' film by Vivian Kubrick, taken out of context. If you watch that (with the original sound on) you'll see all the stories. Unexplained by the urban legend tellers is how Duvall, after being broken by Kubrick, could go on to a successful career, and only have mental issues after she retired, decades later. It's also unmentioned that Duvall suffered a severe head/spine injury on the set of her next film, Time Bandits, that may have contributed to her future issues.
Don't take MY word for it. Watch the behind the scenes film and you can see for yourself. I say with the original sound, because I've seen a few CZcamsrs talk about the 'abuse', but they'll turn off the sound from their 'evidence' so as to not spoil their proof.
Interesting... ok cool we'll check it out... thank you
The little boy playing Danny didn't have any kind of post-trauma issues after making this movie. The director was careful to be sure the kid didn't see the scarier parts of the movie, and the kid didn't even know it was a horror movie. They did several takes, having him play the scene happy, sad, angry, scared, etc., then used the takes where he was playing scared.
That is so smart... thank you for this info... we appreciate it
@@SomethingCinema your cool
💛💚💙❤️
I feel so bad for Shelly Duvall.
1980's 'The Shining' is still one of the best horror movies ever made.
It really is
Literally the greatest horror movie ever made!
No arguments on that
fun fact: the book version of wendy actually stands up to jack and is more independent. so jack nicholson (jack torrance) wanted jessica lange (from the ahs series) to play wendy instead of shelly duvall because he thought they would go more in that direction. but stanley kubrick (director) thought wendy being weak would make her staying with jack "make more sense" or whatever. so this is what we got instead🥲
Mmm ok... would love to see the other version
@@SomethingCinema there's also a sequel that's on netflix called "doctor sleep" where it follows danny as an adult! yall should react to it😉
We will do that next
@@SomethingCinema eyyyy😝
💛💚💙❤
This movie suffered a lot of production problems, as Stanley Kubrick had shot some scenes over 50 times to get it right, Shelly Duvall lost most of her hair during filming, a fire broke out at Elstree Studios, Duvall got into arguments with Kubrick, Jack Nicholson slept on the floor between scenes, and Stephen King hated working with Stanley Kubrick and didn't like the final cut of the movie.
We keep hearing that... that's so sad
I dont think King "worked" with him at all after selling him the rights to The Shining. I know he tried to get Kubrick to adapt his screenplay, but Kubrick, wisely, in my opinion, declined.
That's interesting
Yes!!! Oh please do 'Carrie' (1976) soon!! The original Stephen King film adaptation and still one of the very best xxx
Ok cool... can't wait to watch that one too
@@SomethingCinema Oh wicked thanks!!! You'll all love it I'm sure and your reactions are the most entertaining on here in my opinion.
Thank you!! We appreciate the love and support
@@SomethingCinema after the 1976 version you should watch the one with Chloe grace moretz
Oh there's a sequel??
Y'all got me laughing with the way the mother was running with the knife. 😂
😂😂
😂😂😂😂 The things you guys say kills me. "Stop tiptoeing," " she is the worst mother ever" 😂😂😂😂 i can't
😂😂😂😂
The first R rated movie my dad let me watch! I was about 12 and it was on cable. Turned my head on the bathroom scene (nudity) but man my eyes were glued for the rest of the movie. Been hooked on horror flicks ever since! Although I was bummed Scatman Crothers died in the movie. Just a few years earlier he was the voice of my favorite Saturday Morning Cartoon character. Hong Kong Phooey!!!
Didn't know that fun fact... that's awesome... and that's a great R rated movie to start out with... this movie is really good
The mom is the one who was traumatized by doing this film haha
Yeah we heard... that's so sad
Just watched your sleep away camp reaction and had a fun time!! Every time that guy said “that’s camp” I was dead! New sub 🙌
😂😂 glad you enjoyed it... thanks for the sub
I like the way you are showing the video. Keep up the great work!!!
Thank you... glad you enjoyed it
Watch its sequel Doctor Sleep. It's really good.
We will... coming soon
@@SomethingCinema needs to be the directors cut. Adds more things that connect this one.
Good to know
Bull. That film tries, but fails, to ruin The Shining's legacy. It's mediocre at best.
@@1920sBuffaloGuy that’s your opinion. Me and many others think it’s a brilliant movie and follow up to the shining. So off ya go
This was fun watching this movie with you guys! I've seen lots of reaction videos for this movie, but she's the only person ever to notice the pictures on the wall in the BEGINNING of the movie! :D I think SHE has the shining!!!! :D He's right, the movie was terrifying back in the day. Still is! Spooky as hell!
Yeah this movie is still spooky but we did love it
five minutes in.... and the extreme terror on the faces .... it really does give my joy
Yeah this movie is a wild ride
The girl in yellow is literally me watching horror movies. I'll start screaming at the main character and getting mad at the dumb decisions they make 😂 I love your reactions!
Thank you 💛💚💙❤️
1. Joe Turkel/Lloyd plays Tyrell in the original Bladerunner (Hint Hint)
2. "Here's Johnny" was adlib by Nickelson.
3. It took 117 takes for Jack to chop through the door. He used his voluntary firefighting skills to get through all the takes.
4. The reason King didn't like this adaptation of the movie is because he didn't like the changes Kubrick made. This thing was remade
just for King and although the remake was more in line with the book IMVHO it wasn't as good as this one. He has recently come around
and accepted this version.
5. Nichelson and Scatman worked together before in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".
6. Shelly Duvall said making this movie was the worst experience in her life. She was harassed on and off screen.
7. GOOF: They would have made more than enough money to keep the roads open if they had it open for skiing.
8. The real villain is the hotel itself.
9. Watch Dr. Sleep. Danny is an adult and many of the loose ends well be cleared up.
Great facts!!
There are a lot of ways to interpret what's going on in this movie. I place a lot of importance on what Hallorann told Danny about the shining. It's an ability that some people have. It allows you to see what Hallorann called traces, which I think obviously means ghosts, in the hotel. Danny has immense shining power, we know this because he can contact Hallorann from far away. The hotel, using Grady to talk to Jack, also refers to Danny's 'talent'. We know the hotel absorbs people who die there, like Grady, his daughters, and later Jack too. So if Danny dies there then the hotel gets his power. This is why the hotel uses Jack to try and kill Danny. Jack is vulnerable to manipulation due to being a recovering alcoholic who also has guilt from breaking Danny's arm.
Mmm... ok... that's some really nice insight... ok we have a question... can the ghost make physical contact with you or no, because it looks like they couldn't touch Danny or his mom but Grady unlocked the door for Jack... if you can, please explain that
@@SomethingCinema Hallorann said some people don't shine at all, and some shine a little. Danny shines A LOT. If the shining is what allows you to see a ghost, this means the hotel requires the shining as a kind of power source. No shining= no power= no ghost. So, to answer your question, I think that because Danny has been there for awhile the hotel can start to run off his power. This would explain why Jack and Wendy saw nothing at first then later both of them started seeing a lot. The ghosts can manipulate physical things. The ball that rolls to Danny, the open door, and the bruises on his neck prove this. As to why a ghost doesn't just kill them directly, I think maybe they aren't physically that strong. The woman couldn't strangle Danny to death, she couldn't hang on to Jack. The hotel also used Grady to kill his family, so it seems there is something that makes it so people have to be the ones to cause the deaths. That's how I see it.
Ok... really good points... thanks for that... looking forward to the next one now
I heard from a video I watched a while back that they had to do the bat scene 22:18 127 times and that she was so exhausted and dehydrated from crying that she nearly quit. That’s crazy bruh😭🤯 ps. 20:42 Jackson start doing this what y’all finna do😂☠️
That's crazy... yeah that's a lot of takes... and if Jaxson started doing that then he gotta go lol

"Scream!? Who gonna hear him - his psychotic father or his clueless mother!?!"

It seems like in those older years women didn't physically defend themselves in movies. I saw an Alfred Hitchcock film and the lady let herself be strangled like she didn't want to offend the killer. I wonder how real that was to real life.
Yeah they didn't let women characters fight back which just isn't true
Hi Julie yes you are right to wonder. This film portrays an abused, bullied wife accurately. She is clearly fragile
Yeah you can tell
Fun fact that Hotel is actually haunted and you can actually stay there for tourists
We would have to pass on that one lol

The wife was in a abusive relationship. I Guess that's why she was "ACTING" the way she was in the movie. Very scared and nervous.....But She Was Still Dingy/Goofy Too..😆 lol!!
She was scared of her husband even before the hotel

First as always great reaction an some of your . Theories on point on some of it but fun facts first. Jack Nicholson if I remember correctly was a volunteer firefighter. So first they had light weight doors for him to. Chop through with the axe but he took them down to easy . So they had to switch to normal thick doors . They also made sure to keep it secret. That it was a horror movie around the child actor who played Danny . So he had no idea he was in a Horror movie. The only one that needed therapy after the movie was . The actress that played Windy because to make her metal breakdown . Look real the director harassed her an had everyone treat her like she was a nobody and a nothing . By the end of filming she practically had a nervous breakdown . Her hair was literally falling out . She said in a interview about the movie. But she didn't hold it against the director . Here's the thing about the hotel mainly it was built on a Indian burial ground . Side note that always ends well not. So the hotel is it's own living thing. The ghost are peaple that meant a unfortunate end before their time . There so that's whare their spirit is currently staying . They are separate entities from the hotel . The blood from the elevators that's a hotel thing not a ghost thing. There is a connection with the hotel an the shinning . That's all I will say on that Doctor Sleep covers that. Now about The dad there's some theories about that . Especially the end the one that has some evidence in the movie is . He was the caretaker back when the picture was taken. But he got reincarnated the in movie evidence . Is when he said it's like he had been there before. He knows what's behind every corner. So that kinda hints at the reincarnation theory . A nother one is he also had some degree of the shinning. That would explain why he could see the ghost. About why at the end when the mom could see. Every thing that goes back to the connection to the hotel and the shinning.
This is why I love to get movies like this. On DVD or Blu-ray all the cool fun facts and behind. The scenes stuff on the extras if they have them . As well as the audio commentaries you can learn so much. About some movies I watched one like 4 times. Three of those whore with commentaries of cast and crew . So you just see the movie in the back ground. As they discuss what's happening and how they did . Then once with it just as the movie. I'm about to do it again with Wes Cravens Shocker . A sadly lesser known Wes Craven movie. Two audio commentaries the filmmakers an crew then one. With Wes Craven himself then just the movie itself. Not to mention the other bonus features.
Great insight... makes us want to watch it again
Stephen King also hated an complained about this movie. Because it didn't stay exactly true to the book. So the studio finally said if you agree to stop. Talking down about the movie we will give you . Permission to make your own version of The Shining . So Stephen King agreed then he made a . The Shinning three part mini series in 1997 . It didn't do so well tho put it this way . I see both versions and I literally keep forgetting about it. That's why I didn't mention it . In the previous comment because I just remembered that it was made. I'm not saying it was bad but put it This way. It stretched on for to Long an with the breaks . In between each part any an all tension an suspense and . Build up was lost in between the parts . Wich ruined it at the time because with this movie . The tension an suspense just keeps building until the end. Keeping you on your toes but nowadays if you watch Stephen King's version . All three parts back to back it may work . But it was not a good idea when he aired it on TV like that because it was one part. Then a nother part the next day then the final part the 3rd day. So no how could it keep any real tension an suspense or build up . Like that the answer is it could not .
Wow... this movie had a lot of problems it seems
If you guys do a Stephen King marathon, would love to see the Mist. Its the only horror movie besides Halloween that I've had nightmares about.
We need to watch that too... we still have A LOT of movies to do
@@SomethingCinema Yeah no worries!😁 I can promise you I'm sticking around for a good while. My new favorite channel❤️❤️

Ok cool that will help
Fun fact : there’s a fan theory that pennywise is affecting the hotel .
That would be crazy lol
The "Here's Johnny!" line was improvised. Nicholson had to convince Stanley Kubrick to leave it in.
That's 🔥🔥
Oh course it's a reference to Johnny Carson, but it's interesting that the character in King's book was John rather than Jack. Another thing is Jack was drinking Jack in the bar.
🔥🔥
There's been some strange goings on at that hotel. Jack Nicholson in his zone. Shelley Duvall just trying to stay alive. Danny and Tony in a great performance for a boy and his finger. Scatman Crothers wished his Snowcat would've broken down. Grannies coming, lock the door. Enjoyed watching this with y'all . 👍😄❤️

Jack nicholson was a trainee fire fighter when he was much younger and knew how to swing an axe and because of this they went through 47 doors on the axe scene. 🪓 🚪
That's a cool fun fact
Now for something you will never get out of your head once you think about it. Close your eyes and imagine you are watching E.T. Now listen to Danny's voice when he is talking as Tony.
Oh no 😱😱
Uhh, the director is Stanley Kubrick? Who is Duane Odell Knox lol
😂 we just do a fictional character for the director 😂
You totally called the 'GTFO' moment 🤣
😂😂
Stephen King hates this movie. He has stated, “It was horrible, nothing like my writings or how I imagined it to be.” As a result, a remake was made in 1997, it was okay. Not a lot of people know that this movie has actually been remade already. It’s about a 3 hour, three part series that was made for television, but this remake captures exactly what King was trying to portray in his novel, and he likes this version much better. The remake is ENTIRELY different from this movie. The book itself is entirely different from this movie. This was Kubrick’s vision, not Kings.
Someone else said Stephen King hated it too... We blame the studio lol
😃 “F You…F everybody!” Loved this reaction.

It was Charles Grady who killed his family and himself in 1970. So Jack couldn't have been the literal reincarnation of him, because he was born before Charles died. He talked to Delbert Grady in the bathroom. Notice the twins also had English accents and wore old-fashioned dresses. So they weren't the girls killed in 1970. I think Delbert Grady is the Overlook Hotel. That's why he has always been there. Any person can be sucked into the Hotel and become The Caretaker. Jack was unstable to begin with, so his going insane was quick. Also notice Delbert said "we" are disappointed in you just before he let him out of the pantry. Who are the others...all of the murdered people? Since Delbert is the Hotel, he can open doors. There are a lot of deliberate inconsistencies like saying he injured Danny and quit drinking 3 years ago...another time it was 5 months ago. There are a lot of things in the movie to confuse the viewer. PS the woman in the bathtub was a suicide from back in the day.
This movie definitely had us on our toes

Yeah the actor Danny didn’t even know he was filming a horror movie. He just thought he was filming a regular movie ❤️
& The actress who played as Wendy was actually harassed during filming and was terrified because the director wanted her fear to be real. Shelly Duvall has told the story many times, and it never changes. The scene where Shelly was walking up the stairs holding the bat, you can tell how tired she was. Stanley kept making them re do the scene over and over again, which is understandable, but he didn’t let the adults take breaks, and Shelly’s hair would fall out during filming, and she looked very tired. It’s a great movie, I just don’t like the behind the scenes stuff that happened to mainly Shelly.
Stephen King got the inspiration to write The Shining when he was staying at the Stanley Hotel (which is actually haunted.) Stephen King was staying in the most haunted room (217), and had a nightmare that his son was being chased down the halls by a hose, & when he woke up, he went outside on the balcony, smoked a cigarette, and started writing The Shining.
That's what someone else said
