My 590. Came with a 24 inch bar from Home Depot about 2 year’s ago. I hated it for the flooding issue until I finally figured out how to start it. Now I love it. After 2 years, I finally have a decent saw. Starts with 2 to 3 pulls, every time.
What’s your starting process. I have accidentally flooded mine too.
@@Borophyll I don’t use the button on top. In the morning, I pull the rope with the choke on, 2-3 times until it kicks over. Push in the choke, pull 2-3 more times till it starts. Don’t ever pull the choke back out the rest of the day after it is warmed up. Even if it takes 4-5 pulls. Don’t choke it. Another thing, I would get a set of over sized dogs for it. The dog it comes with does nothing. I got a set one day for about 20 bucks. Make sure it comes with the screw.
That's what is called a full skip chain.
That is a Husky large mount (D009) with a 9.5mm slot and the Echo uses a (D176) 8mm slot so I imagine there is quiet a bit of slop on the fit up but an adapter could be made.
Don't forget to turn the oiler up ALL the way which I'm betting is still not going to give enough oil especially in dry wood so expect some additional wear /stretch on the bar and chain.
The 590 is a good saw and I have one that I have decked the cylinder to .023 squish, reshaped the squish band, muffler moded, raised the exhaust port timing and raised the upper transfers, the intake timing was good so I left it alone. I also did a low jet bypass delete on carb.
I bet it’s a monster, I had Iowa Performance Saws do a muffler mod and retune on my CS590 and it runs noticeably better
@@dentondunn4346 To be honest that is a major gain on the 590, opening up the muffler and getting the carb to be able to tune right. I was able to squeeze more out of mine but cylinders are like finger prints and each one has to be thought of as it's own, what works for one doesn't always work for the next. There is more left in mine but I haven't figured out all the tricks to the 590 and I'm not claiming I have. There are a few pro porters that have figured them out but they are still a bit of a mystery to most.
Good video. Way underpowered for that big of bar. The comments you said about once and a while is right. Not for everyday use, but great show of what I could do.
I run a 27 on my 590 daily. Been buried in more red and white oak than I can remember
Me too.
i have a cs-590 too, can you tell me the model number of the bar and the ripping chain ? thanks because 27 would be great
@@hikemoreh96pro 27DOPS3893 was my bar number I called the echo dealer with, and they got me a bar, and when I got there to pick it up, I just had them do a custom length chain for me.
@@hikemoreh96pro pretty sure I was out of the store for around $150 for the upgrade. It’s been a few years tho.
I had a cs590 with a 28” bar with full chisel ran it for 5 or 6 months. Then sold it
Now I have a ported echo cs400 with. 28” bar and SKIP TOOTH chain
Excellent trimming saw.
You went down in saw size/power? Because it was lighter and smaller?
@@dannyvu9925
For a trimming saw yes....
I always switch up my running fleet
Now I have a. Echo cs800p and a cs500p. And added another cs400 too.. it still has factory 18” bar with 3/8LP chain
Now...the kicker... I have 550$ in all 3 saws
On saw suppliers web site this saw without bar and chain is $369.Spend the extra 125 and get the cs620p the pro model saw . many performance upgrades over the 590 for a little more money .The 620has more power and better components .echo makes some real nice pro saws .The new cs7310p is an impressive saw 70cc class ,very high quality . I have a firewood business and we cut alot of wood year round .The air filtration system is the best i have ever seen, the air filter stays clean it seems forever.
This type of torture should not be allowed on CZcams, and probably goes against the Geneva convention.
Send it out to get ported and muffler modded by a professional and you can run that 36 just like the 18 stock , echos are amazing saws especially if you have them modified just a little bit I have a 620p and 501p and sometime soon I'll have my 7310 I also own a couple huskies and I love em but if I had to choose I'd keep my echos over my huskies they're soooo reliable and durable
How do you like the 501?
@@hunterheideman6417 501 is a little beast , the 4910 Is the exact same saw with a different Tshirt on though so save yourself the money and just grab the 4910 , it's literally the exact same saw nothing is different except the looks , every mechabic who has taken one apart will tell you
I have a echo 620p and echo 800 the bars are interchangeable a 36 echo bar and full chain will work on the 620p
I am about to buy a cs-590 and I want to do a 36" bar setup as well. Only reason being, I'm building a custom chainsaw style saw mill. I want the extra cutting width, as well as the extra bar length to fasten on the track sled on the far side of the log I'll be cutting. I don't do production slab work, and I don't care if the cut takes a long time to make either. Point being, this is a usable option, but I agree that if you decide to do this type of setup, be prepared to make some sacrifices.
You'll blow that saw up doing that. The 590 is too small for a 36 inch bar and milling logs is extremely taxing on a chainsaw already.
I’m a bit late to the party here, but I’m not sure what everyone is so butthurt for. Should you use this size bar everyday, no. But, for a necessary cut it’s more than fine! Calm down all you CZcams “professionals”. Let the saw do the work and it’s extremely capable. Great video!
Can’t wait to get mine. Ordered it from my local hardware store for $355.99.
I like how homeowners who only use their saw to cut maybe 4 trees a year are almost always rocking some type of comically long bar on a saw that's too under powered for it with a dull chain so they can cut a few trees that are 14 inches diameter
don't go and buy anything from amazon. go to your local shop and support your community, and also, always question the judgement of a guy that wears his pocketknife clipped on the outside of the pocket
My local Echo dealer handles the Oregon chain and bars as well. Good products.... and pocket knives shouldn't have money clips on them.
your local shops sell on amazon
Thx
The link to the ripping chain is for a .50 gauge chain. The bar is .63 gauge. I didn't notice until I ordered mine.
I did catch that actually before I ordered mine. But I just realized the bar in the video is a "power cut" and the bar in the description is for a "power match." My order is arriving in a few days. Did you get yours all sorted out to fit your 590?
It's a d176 mount.
Oh my! What did they cut big trees with before 60cc and above chainsaws were introduced. Did all of those chainsaws die when used to cut them? Good job on the video. Thanks
Have to reset the high and low jets for bar swaps.
Good video.
I use my timber wolf with a 20”, I don’t doubt it can make the big cut but I have a stihl 660 for that bar size and it can pull full chisel no problem, you need a skip tooth or semi chisel chain or that saw is gonna die
a skip tooth still isn't going to help very much.
You're working that saw too hard.....when you're at full throttle and cutting hard you need to keep your RPM's up to keep the air flow up to pull the heat away from the cylinder....you're working the saw hard just pulling that much chain and bar and then adding a heavy cut rate and you're putting a huge amount of heat thru the saw. All that heat can't get out thru the muffler so the cooling air on the cylinder is very important. It's important to always keep your RPM's up as high as you can and balance that with the cutting rate. You can wear any saw out prematurely or blow it up by overheating it by overloading and undercooling. The brand doesn't matter; you can do it with any saw. Open up the muffler and you can get more heat out faster but 60cc is too small for a 36" bar and chain....you will always be working a saw that size too hard and it will take a toll on the saw over time......the harder you work it the shorter the time. Sorry, but there's no free lunch. Kindly meant to help.....rgds, La Grange, Texas
Well put sir
By the way, the 590 comes with 18,20 or 24 inch chains. Home Depot has all 3 options. The 24 inch that comes with it is 84 links. The after market bars are 81.
I have some suggestions. The standard mount for the 590 is a D176 and they don't sell anything over 28" in that mount. Leads me to believe you have a 36" d
D025 mount that you jammed into the D176. The problem with that is proper bar oiling. I would check into this if you don't want to burn up that new set up you have.
I believe you can get d176 in a 32 and 36 especially if its oregon bars i may be wrong i have the 620pw echo amd i can get a 32 for it like i said may be wrong
D009's work just fine on the echos. i run an oregon d009 power match bar 28" and it turns it no problem. but its ported and has a badass muffler i fabbed myself. dont get me wrong, the cs590 is a great saw, but in the hands of this meat head, it looks like shit. the echo has its place, even with a 28" on it like mine. anything over that, and you just better find a bigger saw. i dont care how ported it is or whats done to it. the parts on it are just not made to handle that much bar and chain. this guy is a douche tool.
just picked one up with a 24 bar for $389
I use my cs-590 with 28" D176 bar, full chisel skip chain, works great. Key is any extra bar legth past 24" use skip chain to keep cutting power..
Wow, that was painful to watch!! Unless you have one that is modified by a real good shop and basically a hotrod on steroids, don't run a 36" bar on it. Hell, I wouldn't run it with one even if it was built like a top fuel dragster!!
20, 24, and 28" bars are plenty for that saw, especially with stock settings. I have one that I used regularly until I had a few health issues and ran the 20" and 24" setup with a full house chain and cut some very large tree's on my buddies farm with no trouble. I am going to be getting a large displacement saw to run a 32 & 36" bar with a full skip chain to cut up some others on his place this spring. Having the right bar, very sharp chain, & settings makes a huge difference in how good the saw works. Oh, and learning how to run one properly, too.
You can use any bar that fits a 800
That 36" bar has a gauge of .063 vs the .050 of the cs-590.
He linked a .063 chain to go with the bar, as long as the chain matches the bars width that's all that matters.
Can a Ford Focus tow 10,000 pounds? Probably, if on flat ground or going downhill, but it will wear it out and its dangerous. This looks like it might wear out the saw, and seems painfully slow. I guess each to his own.
Need a skip tooth chain
So you say it's possible with the 36 engine bar and chain... I have a 3 by 4 foot diameter Maple log here at my place I have a question can Echo CS 590 Timberwolf run a 42 inch bar and chain?....looking to make giant cookies
Manual says that it can take a 27 inch chain.
Thats the 620 p the 590 is 24" max..
I'm looking to do something similar. Did you use an adapter plate or anything when attaching the bar? Also did you use a 114 link chain or larger?
I have a echo cs680 with a 36" bar it turns it like no tomorrow.
I know you posted this a long time ago... I am trying to do the same with my 680. I got the 363RNDD009 Oregon bar, do you use 114 or 115 drive link Oregon chain? Thanks
@@3824liljohn im not sure I bought the chain that was for the cs 800 they share the same sprocket and drive
At around 7:20 my Timber Wolf 590 with the best chain on the market would have been finished. Also, safety gear?
You are running a D009 mount bar on a D176 mount saw. That won't last long...
I no nothing about bars. Could you elaborate? Thanks!
@@phantomcreamer different saws use different bar mounts. The numbers I listed are Oregon numbers for the different bar mounts. It's not smart to mix and match without using the appropriate adapter, if one us available. Always use the correct bar. You can run into chain binding, lack of oiling, all sorts of issues by not using the correct bar.
@@tylersnider1846 interesting, thank you! If you look at his link, the bar got very low ratings on Amazon because it wasn't the right mount. Maybe it works for the 490 then.
@@phantomcreamer basically he was running a bar for a large Husqvarna saw on an Echo. While it can work, thing like oil hole line-up can cause many problems.
Probly faster to use the 20” and cut both sides
Can you put 27 inch chain on a 25 inch chain saw.
Echo cs-590 timberwolf $375 ebay (+$20 2 yr warranty sq trade
Oregon 28" with 2x ripping chains. $155
It looks like the bar/chain option is out of stock.
Did it survive all the cutting?
Can CS310 saw fit a 36” bar??
get a skip tooth chain
Just stick with the 20 inch bar or 24
The longer the bar the less torque and power you have
Bro…. Chaps please. Especially walking around in shorts with a huge bar. Safety first man.
Put a 42 in on it
If you want a bigger bar buy a bigger saw that can handle that size bar
Why would you want to put that saw through that much stress? I wont go any longer than a 20" bar on my Timberwolf.
When I got mine it came with a 24" from Echo. It pulls that 24 with power to spare, noticeably better than my ms250 pulls the 18" it came with. With a good quality, sharp chain, I'd have no hesitation running a 27 or 28 on the 590. Any longer than that though, I'd use a bigger saw.
24 inch bar is perfect for the 590
20-24 is the sweet spot on the 590 for sure them extra 4 inches makes a difference. I personally like the 20 I’m most situations.
Repeats himself over and over and over...
"Is it practical for everyday use?" LOL of course not...but thanks a million because I just got my 590, my buddy has two and keeps a 36" on one, I was intending to do the same til the forums (Buzz, Arboristsite and OPE ie Outdoor Power Equipment) all basically told me I'm an idiot and it won't work.....Thanks for posting video-proof, I KNEW my friend's not lying about his 36" setup being solid (he also has a modified 590, cannot tell if yours is stock or not) but seeing video-proof was nice, I'd been contemplating "backing off" and going w/ a 32" so thanks a ton for posting this!!
Makes sense, I mean if I have a 12" on my 25cc climbsaw, sure I can bury it and cut 14" logs aloft - I do this quite often actually lol - but yeah it's slow the way your 36" was slow here, because it's my 25cc not my 355t :P But yeah SO LONG AS the user keeps this in-mind, and is aware of the principle of not forcing the saw / letting the saw do the work (and how chainspeed is your primary gauging here, makes me cringe when I see people's default IE to push harder on the saw, you hear the RPM's drop and know the thing's cutting slower AND working the powerhead harder, silly/stupid mistake but made by sooo many "veterans" in this industry!
If yours is modded I'd love to hear what you've done, mine's not even a week old am literally going to put it on the bench and remove the limiters, gut the muffler and open-up (and then screen/filter) the airbox as the air-intake SUCKS for such an awesome air-filter element as the 590 has!!
Thanks again for posting, now it's time to find if I can modify one of those lightweight Stihl bars onto my 590, am willing to pay premium for a lighter bar after finding these 3' bars can be 10lbs+, I mean sure for me this is MOSTLY a ground-saw but there's plenty of times I'll need to be using this from a spar wearing my spurs so lightness = happiness there especially for smaller guys like myself!!
After seeing the lack of chaps and eye protection, I’m not going to trust anything this clown says or does.
I have a lightly modified CS-590 with 24” bar, and it’s great for a regular landowner doing occasional firewood, downed tree clearing, etc.
This guy doesn't even know what his saw is
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. The 590 is actually underpowered for a 20",and is better suited for a 16". Not bad for the money though.
Your stupid how is it underpowered for a 20” it’s a 60cc and has plenty of potential, a 24” works perfect with this saw and I wouldn’t go higher without modifying it and I wont go past 27” anyway. Use your big head and do some research before commenting.
You can use any bar that fits a 800
