Practicing can be boring and can feel like you're not making any progress at times. We all learn at a different pace and better with different techniques. In this video I give you a practice drill to learn so you can get those palming transitions down smoother. Then, I teach you a One Coin Routine to help you put all those palms into a useful routine that will double as a practice exercise and a performance piece. - Zábava

Thanks so much for this, Rick. You're a natural teacher. I'm going to definitely show my support and purchase your work. From one musician/magician to another.
@@RickHolcombe Do you have any tips on how to perfect the Muscle Pass? Thanks in advance!
@@danielkelley7548 It's just a matter of getting the right spot and strengthening that muscle. There's no real shortcut that I have.
@@dadcraft1528 try touching the tips of your pinky finger and thumb together. Now release, but hold your palm muscles in place. The coin will be held on either side between the bulges from your pinky and the thumb. The motion of the coin is created by squeezing until the coin slips off the thumb muscle.
For those of you, like me, who may need to review some of these palms more than once -here's a little re-viewing aid I've created (my small contribution to this great teaching aid -Thx Rick!)
1) Classic Palm (5:47 min)
2) Finger Palm (6:45 min) (hold with just ring finger)
3) Nowhere palm (7:33 min)
4) Second finger curl palm (8:05 min)
5) JW Grip (8:25 min)
6) Edge Grip Palm (8:38 min)
7) Downs Palm (8:54 min)
8) Thumbs Palm (9:03 min)
9) Balance Palm (9:20 min)
10) Back thumbs palm (9:35)
11) Recovery (9:50 min)
@@BaldCardMan r/woooooooosh
LOL. I wish I had read this post sooner. I went through the routine many times noting the times too.
BTW Balance Palm is at 9:30
The drill is pure gold. I’ve been doing magic since before you were born Rick and I can’t believe I never thought to put my coin or card sleights in a logical practice order. So many advantages. Thank you!
Glad to help!
Well said I am new to Magic but my word exactly 👍😎
@@RickHolcombe Hi
Thank you for the content, it's really informative.
I've just started out trying to learn the palms, clips and sleights.
UK based, so practicing with 2p/10p coins.
I'm really struggling with the thumb clips, both front and rear because it hurts my thumb joint when loading into the clip from the index finger and middle finger. I guess this is just a muscle training and will get easier.
I saw a video that shows the thumb clips being achieved from the ring finger, much like the "classic" but diagonally up.
When going into front thumb clip from relaxed where do you start from?
@@JL-qs7er from a relaxed position I usually slide the coin back into thumb palm. You can see a similar type of movement when I show the DeManche Change in the 2 coin practice video.
@@RickHolcombe thanks, I'll check it out.
Hi Rick, this is the guy with the rheumatoid arthritis hands again LOL. I just wanted to let you know this was the first routine that showed up while I was going through CZcams looking at different coin magic tutorials. And it was so amazing the way that you teach and show the different palming techniques and how to get in and out of them. And then turn it into that really amazing routine using those different slides with that wonderful mind-blowing ending where you turn that last coin move into your wallet!! That's how I found your channel and I am so glad that I subscribed to it and I have been looking through all the other routines and teachings that you have which are so many. But I am going to focus on this particular teaching for now until I can try and get the slides good enough even with my hands the way they are to be able to feel comfortable doing the whole routine and learning those particular slights the way that you teach them. I used to practice coin magic and always used half dollars they were easier to palm and work with. So now I need to go to my bank and see if I can get some half dollars to start practicing with again!! That was before I was ever put on permanent disability for fibromyalgia and then the rheumatoid arthritis and a few other issues that came along the way. But I love to take my mind off of those type of problems and Magic has always been a love of mine. I did get to do magic shows before I was ever diagnosed with fibromyalgia.and have never lost my love for it!! And now that I found your channel it has made me very happy. I am in my 60's now. And was diagnosed with severe fibromyalgia at the mayo clinic when I was about 37. So keep up the great work!! And thank you very much!!
I wish I could like this video twice.
Thank you.
I like the fact you incorporated music into this 🎉❤
Holcombe's motion is amazing. I own his lecture.
This is solid gold advice and something you rarely hear or see taught on magic tutorials. Absolutely brilliant, thank you so much for this. This is the first time I've seen one of your videos so I'm looking forward to going back through everything on your channel.
And the rolling retention vanish is amazing!!! So beautiful.
Glad to help!
After recently buying Bobo’s Modern Coin Magic I have been frustrated about how and what to practice. You have given me the marching orders I needed. You are a blessing. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

This the video that has helped me pursue coin magic. I never thought about pursuing get because of how difficult it actually is. But he is exactly right, coin magic is like practicing a guitar in the respect that you must get the basics down.

Was struggling hard to find tips
esources to perfect different palming techniques. Then you came as a messiah with this video !! A BIG thank you man :)
Since I’ve watched this I’ve been performing these drills everyday. Great exercise. I like to go from the back thumb palm right into purse palm, then into back palm and right back to classic palm and start again.
16:37 That sleight (using two coins evidently) is called the "Flying Shuttle Pass". It was also independently devised by Jay Sankey in the 1990's-early 2000's which he marketed for the first time in his DVD "Revolutionary Coin Magic" I believe. And Jay (on the DVD) gives credit to Scotty York for also independently devising this at about the same time as him. Jay was the one to entitled it "Flying Shuttle Pass".
My point was doing half of the flying shuttle to make a coin production out of it. So, doing the flying shuttle witha piece of "nothing". I should have mentioned the full move though. I know better than that. Curtis Kam also came upwith the same general idea of the flying shuttle maybe before both of them.
Thanks for this video-the drill and advice is excellent; it has really helped my progress.
Hello Rick, I am just buzzing through your videos. (Very addictive) I can relate to the instrument workout, I play the drums and had to do roles, doubles, paradiddles, and triples as a workout. When I was in middle school I started walking around with a half dollar palmed. I still always have a coin in my hand and now I even wear one on my finger. Keep these videos coming and I love Recoil by the way. I am putting it into my routine this weekend.
Thanks for the support my friend!
Very well taught, educational and enjoyable. This coming from an old, long time magician.
NICE! Thank you!
Wow. Your coin magic is a work of art. Really makes me want to develop my coin game.
