Diana was only 15 years old here. This isn't the voice. It's a showcase for orphans and disadvantaged children as Diana was an orphan and entered at 14 years old. As far as your next song, Rechenka is a MUST because it's more than a song. It's a world class performance. Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest contralto type and deepest woman voice. Diana was born in May 2003 in Arseniev in the Far East of Russia. She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had 12 pregnancies, only Diana survived ... and she did not love her child, abused her cruelly and tried to I drowned. Relatives found the child with a broken collarbone on the street and shortly afterwards took the 3-year-old girl to an orphanage. Finally there she found love ... from Irina Ponik. Taking a little child into the family was not easy for Irina. Her son was already 20 years old, the daughter 17 years old ... Start all over now? Yes!!! Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared but she all sing songs from cartoons. And so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started ...
During 2008 to 2012 Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions.
Diana's mother became her daughter's manager. Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances, competitions, looking for sponsors is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She took extra sewing courses too. Since then, she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget. She accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary.
After winning a competition in Moscow, Diana's mother was offered to leave the girl in a boarding school for gifted children. She refused and in 2012 her family moved to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana lost her fear that the woman who gave birth to her would kidnap her.
Diana's voice, her perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm were extraordinary even as a little girl and so she impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.
In 2017 she went to Moscow, at the Russian 'The Voice Kids'. Diana sang 'Yodel-Time' czcams.com/video/vKdvaWsd91Q/video.html but none of the judges turned around but the whole audience gave 'standing ovation'. What happened? Next day, a huge scandal broke out in social medias. People demanded for Diana's participation in the competition.
A door had closed but a new door opened:
In 2018/19, Moscow hosted the 3rd season of a unique international competition instead of "You are Super", especially for adopted and orphaned children. The winner of the season (Diana) will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to CZcams and soon she had millions of fans.
Diana won also a scholarship to the College of Music. Igor Krutoy gifted her a small apartment in Moscow. So, she could start her vocal training with the best teachers such as Professor Olga Donskoy (She died of Covid-19 in October 2020).
The break of voice made Diana’s voice even darker and deeper. She has mastered this time very professionally and has worked hard to bring back the lost high notes and has expanded her vocal range, currently from C3 to D6. Her genres are folk-rock, folk-pop, jazz, soul, blues, soldier songs and Diana-stile… tradition meets modernity.
She loves to sing in French, but also sings in English, German, Arabic and Spanish... but only phonetically.
But she is not only a great singer and storyteller, but also a humble, intelligent and hardworking young woman. She also gives charity concerts. She loves her family and her fans. They are 'friends' to her and they are very supportive of her. Diana is grateful that they helped improve her home studio and also supported her future plans. Her Russian Friends have chosen Diana as "National Treasure" (no official title).
2020 Diana graduated from high school a year earlier, as an external student and now, she is a student at the Russian Institute of Theater Arts (similar to Juilliard). She is already composing songs and we will definitely hear her own song soon.
She will only take part in major competitions if invited. Such competitions require a lot of time, effort and strength. As a result, participants often have large educational gaps and problems later on. Diana is a smart young woman. She focuses on her studies, her voice and expanding her repertoire.

It is based on a Russian folksong about a young betrothed orphan girl who goes to the river, the boundary between the living and the dead, to ask her deceased mother's blessing for her marriage.

Ironically, Diana herself was an orphan who was abused and abandoned by her alcoholic mother. Because of this beginning her speech was very undeveloped and she was given singing lessons to help improve her speech. Her talents was quickly recognized and the rest is history.
Appreciate that earlier this year she went on a Russian version of Go-Fund-Me to raise money to pay for studio time. Her home video sharing her appreciation of the gifts she received for her 17th birthday should cause the entire LA music world go stand in the corner and reconsider their lives. She will graduate from high school in May and also turn 18. Billy Elish, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande should form a partnership to protect Diana when she comes to the US. I fear for Diana when she meets the LA music machine.

While there is a superficial similarity between Cher and Diana, Cher is simply not in Diana's league. Diana's tone quality and vocal technique are way beyond Cher's. Context as it relates to this specific performance. This was Diana's second season on "You Are Super" and the next to last performance of that second season (which was a 'champions' season) so the judges were already well familiar with her style and control. It's interesting to note that they tried to press their buttons so it was not too intrusive of the performance. Her first season at age 14 was so impressive, especially her performances of Rechenka (River - a story about a soon-to-be orphaned bride going to the river to commune with the spirit of her departed mom in hope of receiving her blessings) and the French pop song Derniere Danse (in French - though the best version was after the show's conclusion where she gets to stretch the song a little further than two mins - yet that 2 min show performance was priceless because of how blown away the judges were.)

I’m a native Californian and have been listening for years now. I grew up in the 60’s. My family were musicians and sang all of the old songs from the 20’s and up. I have never heard a voice like hers before. I know she’s learning English and speaks fairly well, however I get the impression that she doesn’t think so. Her story is actually worse than I’ve seen mentioned. Truly a Phoenix rising from the ashes due to an amazing loving family who fell in love with her when she was 5 and took her in. Irena’s love and encouragement and support are unbelievable. No pushing just supporting. Truly all of these wonderful people are inspirational, imo. She’s recently come out with some amazing originals that she wrote the music and absolutely beautiful lyrics for. I do recommend the above comments as well as her newer originals “Revelation”, “Next to You” and anything else by her. Whatever she decides to cover absolutely is usually as good if not better than the originals. “Crow, on “The ShowMaskGoon” is a must see! She not only performed on stage but also helped with the amazing choreography. She is amazingly humble, kind, rather shy and a very sweet girl. Her younger stage performance of “Oh Darling”(Beatles cover) is phenomenal as well as at 13 on a school stage “Me Voy” and “Joan of Arc”(or the Arc de Triumph) at age 13 are beyond belief. Pretty much anything she does is from another universe. Please enjoy all of these wonderful covers. I understand that your time is limited but it would be lovely if you could stop the video and comment separately if at all possible. We all truly love that some from Hollywood are paying attention and I personally love your reactions and have for quite a while. “Her lockdown version of “Havana” shows a bit of her personality and I truly never tire of any of hearing her songs. We all love seeing reactors reacting to her amazing talents. Her polyphonic and subharmonic abilities are like nothing I’ve ever heard before. Igor Krutoy and Dimash Kudaibergen both recommend and support her. She’s been offered record deals but is staying independent for now but has worked with some amazing artists as well. Diana's voice, her perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm were extraordinary even as a little girl and so she impressed with her talent in over 50 national
and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant
competitions so that other children could have a chance to win. So, in 2017 on February she went to Moscow, at the Russian 'The Voice Kids'. Diana sang

What happened? Next day, a huge scandal broke out in social medias. People demanded for Diana's participation in the competition. A door had closed
but a new door opened: In 2018 and 2019, Moscow hosted the 3rd season of a unique international Competition instead of “You are Super”, which was
launched in 2016 specifically for adopted and orphaned children. Diana took part and won. These performances were broadcast nationwide, uploaded to
CZcams and made Diana known worldwide. She now has many millions of fans around the world. The final of the international singing competition for
children 'You are Super' took place in the Kremlin Palace. The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote. Diana won a scholarship to
the music college. Igor Krutoy gifted her a small apartment in Moscow so that she could begin her vocal training with the best teachers in Moscow such
as Professor Olga Donskoy (she died of Covid-19 in October 2020). The break of voice made Diana’s voice darker and deeper. During her vocal break, her
voice sometimes went a little crazy. You can hear it in some videos from that time. She has mastered this time very professionally and worked hard to get

First, Diana Ankudinova was only 15 during this performance. Some reactors have questioned if Diana Ankudinova was using Auto-Tune during this performance. The general consensus from many vocal professionals and recording studio sound engineers is no; there is no auto-tune being used, and what many do not know is Diana Ankudinova mastered, and is using a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing which is an extraordinary accomplishment for someone so young. A singer that has mastered the polyphonic singing technique can create one, and sometimes two, different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing which results in many mistakenly believing she is using Auto-Tune when she is not.
The Wicked Game live performance happened in May 2019. This performance was recorded when she took part in a talent show for disadvantaged teens called You Are Super and it ended with her winning the competition after her mesmerizing performance.
The year before, in 2018 Diana was 14 and first competed in the You Are Super competition singing the Russian folk song, Rechenka which she performed in her native Russian language. It was during the 2018 performance of Rechenka that many voice professionals started paying serious attention to Diana saying, she was showing such low, rich, deep, and resonant sounds, and her musicality and stage presence was well beyond her years. But no one was prepared for the contralto sound she produced at 15 in 2019 when she performed Wicked Game!
Diana has said she was unhappy with her lack of a higher vocal range which caused her rejection from the more prestigious vocal academies. After several of the top music school rejections, she decided along with her voice teacher to concentrate on improving her higher range which can be heard in the 2021 inaugural season of a new vocal competition called TheShowMaskGoOn with her interpretation of the Elvis Presley classic, Can’t Help Falling In Love.
There are other performances of Diana in vocal competitions, and performing in concerts but she also recorded videos in a home studio during the COVID pandemic lockdown that were stripped down, without any of the significant flash, fashion, or production values of competitions or concerts. The home-recorded videos of her cover of A-Ha's, Take On Me, and Camila Cabello's, Havana, are 2 examples of what Diana did during the COVID lockdowns. You can see that without the pressure or stress of a concert or competition, Diana is just having fun, and enjoying herself.
