The Honister Slate Mine in Cumbria is the last working slate mine in England. Quarrying for Westmorland green slate has been taken place in the area since 1728. Apart from the mining, it is also a popular tourist attraction in the Lake District National Park.

We had the pleasure of staying at Marks cottage, my two sons and I had a flight in the helicopter from his home to the mine , we then did the mine tour and finally with the boys mum we climbed the mountain, Three firsts for them in one day, thank you Mark you were a good man sleep well sir.

Am a hardrock miner in canada .. much appreciate this video in explaining the ol' ways .. respect to Mark, (rest in peace). .. keep slate industry going , and it's many skilled artisans. :)

I never knew about this mine in Cumbria, I will have to pay it a visit.
I live in North Wales, so I'm surrounded by Slate mines and quarries, some of which I have explored.
Sorry to read Mark Weir was killed in a helicopter crash.
