I think it's because, iirc, she has some pretty bad trauma from her childhood. Which manifests itself in such ways. Notice the awkward, timid, shy-ishness from her, she's always a bit on edge and without context that really gives her comfort, she seems to perceive things differently. It's not an excuse, so to speak, but for example just at look how she defended Tom after the fingering conversation. If she really just wanted to create drama, she could have made that into a huge deal, 10x the deal it could ever be with some random cameraman. I think traumas is also the reason her and Strickland are such good friends.

Although punching machines are reasonably exact, there are some variances in accuracy among different manufacturers. You can't compare your score to a friend's unless they both came from the same machine. Though you play against your friends, even if you are the better player, they may obtain a greater score than you.
It's not down to Goddard to decide there's not enough action going on and then stop the fight.. That's not his job, what a clown.
