She was very professional in my opinion. If you asked for an inch, it's very nice of her to fulfill your wishes, even if the final result isn't great, it's what YOU asked. And she did the right thing by having you come over again for a second haircut. THIS is how it has to be done and I applaud her. I also like you went for the blue line. You can always cut it all over again if you don't like it, but it can take several months to regrow it. You won't mess up your hair by having some strands longer than others, as long as you keep good (or bad) care the result should be about the same, unless you have strands splitting, but it seems she dealt with them properly as well, claps for it again. She seems to be a great professional and you should praise her. If that was the standard you'd not have so many women terrified of seeing a stylist. It's your hair, not theirs, it's your choice, as good or as bad as it is. 😇
Viv, it's not a step back, it's the start of your new hair journey. And, I think the deeper red is a good choice while you're growing out the bleached ends.
Some people are hating on the stylist but she did exactly what Viv asked for and was accommodating when she decided to go back. That's how you build trust, and now maybe next time Viv will be more willing to trust her recommendations, because she knows she won't take it too far. I got bangs once that I thought I liked at the salon, but when I got home I realized they weren't what I wanted and ended up going back to get them fixed and I was much happier. That's just how it goes sometimes.
I've learned the hard way and finally accepted that holding on to length did nothing to repair my hair and just impeded growth and healing. Every trim (after no cuts in 2020/2021), I was getting every bit of growth cut off so I finally in January said cut off all you need to. She was right when she said if you don't get all the split ends, it would keep splitting and ended up cutting about 3 inches but since then it's been easier to keep moisturized and growing like crazy and my latest trim was so easy!
It was the same for me, it's so much healthier since I accepted I needed a proper cut and got rid of all the damage., It's long again now, yet I hadn't had any significant growth in years while it was damaged.
Oprah is a dream stylist. She told you what would be best for your hair, but she left the decision up to you and respected it. I'm glad you went back got the second trim. The final results look great!
Red line… This is such a thick hair problem. We have a ton of hair so we don’t notice breakage until it is too late. Also we can hide it so we hide our heads and pretend there isn’t a problem.
I can confirm oprah is not scissors happy. If you tell her one inch, she is literally going to cut one inch. She will suggest that you need to go a little more and explain to you why. She will also tell you if the trim makes sense if you want it to be too light.
I'm glad she fixed it for you. It looks so much healthier. I'm getting ready for my 1st haircut in over 2 years. Like you, I'm feeling a little nervous. 😂
I'm glad you worked with Oprah to ensure you felt comfortable. So many times we don't feel comfortable disagreeing with our stylist, but they are there to help. It looks great and remember that it will grow back. I had to constantly tell myself this over the past 3 years after I did the big chop in 2020. And it has, my hair is back to the length it was then and is so much healthier too! Love your videos, glad I found you, your journey gave me the courage and confidence to wear my hair in it's natural state!
For 20 years, I was the one behind the chair. I know how hard it is to want healthy, long hair when there's damage. Making the deciding to keep or cut isn't easy. It's even harder when a person's hair growth is slower than average. I commend you for taking the steps you needed to get to your hair goal.
My hair stylist who I, since 2015, met the same way. She was super patient with me, I was hesitant about BIG TRIMMING my ends . But when I saw how thin my ends still were after the cut I wanted, she let me come back later that week and gave me the trim I needed. Since then I only go to get my hair straightened and BIG TRIM a few times a year, but she's cool with that and calls it "My Schedule" 😅 My hair is still below my arm pits. TRUST the process. Oprah is a real one💯
Life happens and sometimes we can’t do all the things we feel we need to do because we only have energy for a few things and sometimes maintaining our natural hair is low on the list. It was brave to let someone you don’t know cut your hair. Whatever happens moving forward, at least you know you’re taking the first step towards prioritizing hair health again by getting rid of most of those split ends. ❤
See through doesn't necessarily mean split or broken hair. You've also done self-cuts so combined with uneven growth rates "holes" in the hair can occur that way as well. That said i personally prefer the hair even and full but understand people wanting to do that slowly! I think the second trim improves the overall look too. NOT a fan of shea butter as heat protection tho 😅
I was struggling with my hair for a bit until I realized this was the issue, self-cut causing see-through ends due to unevenness. I was stressing lol cause I was constantly dusting/trimming my hair and I felt like it was still see-through. This last cut I blew my hair out so it was even. This is why I am not a proponent of trimming my hair curly, but I hate to blow dry it. The struggle is real!
I hear you there. I wear my hair kind of straight (I’m relaxed) but my hair doesn’t grow at the same speed at different places on my head, I usually self trim, I was anemic for quite a while and I’m still borderline most of the time. And for a while, I noticed that the back/crown of my head was a tad shorter and kind of breaking. But it wasn’t where I do my pony tails (I like them high, it’s easier to sleep in, etc.). Well, I spend lots of time driving (traffic is crazy out here), and the back of my head kept rubbing on the headrest of my seat. And the fabric of the headrest was rough. So now I have a satin pillow case on it.
I used to feel worried about having too much hair taken off, but the hair dresser usually knows what needs clipped. I've learned to trust her. It grows back faster when it's healthy because I have less breakage when I brush it.
I'm glad you were able to get your salon cut done in a way that made you happy!!! I've got to say that the shampoo part of my salon visit is my ABSOLUTE favorite part!!!
🙋🏾♀️ My guess is red (yellow, if you got layers). I haven't let anyone else cut my hair since a traumatic experience in 2008 (!), but I'm sure I need to cut off more, more often. It's so hard to do better, even tho i know better, lol. You put your hair through SO MUCH for us, Viv! You deserve this reset. I know you know it's only going to grow faster, now 🎉
I’d go with a little above yellow if split ends/ ssk were my concern, but red would be my go-to if I wanted/needed a restart, especially with it being summer, which is the perfect time to do so imo.
Your hair looks so much better, just keep up with the trims and you don't have to go through that experience again. Your hair now will probably grow even longer.
Red. ❤ I would personally choose yellow but you know your hair the best. Edit: Im surprised you chose the lower level. There’s nothing wrong with gradual trimming I’m going through a setback myself. My hair broke off in the crown almost half my hairs length so i’m trying to grow it all out
It's ok that so many things in life took your attention and priority away from your hair. It's also ok to be sad about what happened to your hair because of it. Your hair is looking wonderful after the salon visits and I'm glad you were able to find a stylist who knew how to listen to what you wanted and did a beautiful job.
I'd go red! I did my second big chop earlier this year after heat damage and growing out my hair. After a while I wasnt seeing length retention. Just had to cut off all damage
I completely ruined my hair with bleach about 9 years ago. I cut it all off, way above my shoulders. It took 2 years to grow past my shoulders again. (I didn’t realize I had thyroid cancer at the time, so it was growing really slowly!) This time, since I did not learn my lesson that bleach and I do not mix well, I am doing the same as you and cutting a couple of inches at a time. So much happier this way! I completely understand wanting it to stay long as you gradually cut the damage away! ❤
I love the end result and am so proud of you, as well you made me realize I cut my hair way to much, my last big hair cut was in December , but I also did get 1 trim since then, and before the cut in December I did get a big cut in August 😅.
I went through that a couple of months ago. I just told the stylist to cut them off. About 4-5 inches of trash ends. My hair looks and feels so much better with it gone. 🫶🏽
This looks great. It's definitely not a set back. Everyone's hair is different and has different needs. Sometimes it's worth getting a big chop to let the health come back so you can get longer later.
Red was my guess, BUT I'm not the one in the chair. I clicked so fast when I saw this title! I was afraid you were going back to the TWA, lol! The new cut looks great and I'm glad you decided to go back so Oprah could trim you up right.
Red is best, yellow is ok for now if you’re not ready to dive straight into red. I definitely would say follow up in 4-6 weeks, 8 if you want to stretch it and take care of the remainder that needs to come off.
Yeah same here, I have wavy middle eastern hair, I did hair mask before I went to the hair salon, they didn't rinse it completely, so I decided to stop doing that next time, it's OK in normal days but not ideal when you have to attend a wedding 😅
I only wear my hair in its naturally unaltered kinky curly state, so I never get trims with my hair stretched.. So I have 0 input on where best to cut blow dryed hair, but I absolutely love seeing hair get revived.. And also love that you made the choice to go back and get the trim you were more comfortable with seeing.. ❤
Hey Viv, I think you did the right think going back. My hair was past bra strap length when I straightened it earlier this year. Only a few inches away from waist length. I trim & cut my hair very often so my ends always look really full. But the bleached parts were just lacked luster. So I decided even though my mom & sis hate that I always chop or trim my hair so much I decided to chop a good portion off. Also due to the fact that my curls are a bit limp & I’m just not feeling it. My hair is now shoulder length but it’s even fuller looking of course & feels much better. Not perfect but it’s a great improvement. I was a bit sad but not sad enough not to do it lol I’m scissor happy with my hair for sure 😅 So it was satisfying to see you go back for that second cut. I was def thinking the middle line for you but I think at least the stragglers were taken off :)
You should definitely try mini braids I usually leave mine for six weeks I wash my every two weeks I massage Rice water oil light conditioner. I wet my hair every four days.
I didnt realize how bad my ends were until I blowdried and straightened my hair. I ordered the Tymo products from your video after you straightened your hair with them. My blow-dryer could barely get through my ends. I literally just stopped and cut off whatever was nappy. Then once it was straight I did a long wolf cut and gave myself curtain bangs. It came out kinda cute but yeah my ends were horrible
You have amazing hair. You are beautiful. "It's fine, it's fine, " and you turn to look at the camera afterthe cut. It is fine, pretty hair as always. Really though, I have been watching your videos for years, you are cheery and bright. You always make me smile. Thank you.
Thanks for this video Vivianna. I need a trim and rinse too (gray hair). I was even toying with the idea of relaxing my hair recently or clipping it myself. You might have just saved my hair with your bravery.
Gorgeous as always🎉and trimming the hair is a major step to healthy hair even if you value length a decent amount of hair needs to be trimmed in order for your hair to flourish. But like the amount you cut the second go round was better you may not get all the dead ends first time but 3 month follow up would help get the rest. I have bleached hair and high porosity hair so moisture leaves my hair a lot however its as healthy as can be and at most i can go 2 weeks at most before washing depends on build up but as for trimming my hair i was told its best to do that every 3 to 4 months because my hair grows fast and sometimes i wait until 6 months and depending on how my ends are usually 1-2inches are cut but as far as protein i use a protein deep conditioner or leave in and every other product is moisture based except the shampoo i really want that clean scalp. Occasionally i take hair scissors and clip any split ends i come across that hair dresser misses but i don't shape my hair i leave that to them😂and i get my hair straightened and dyed every 6-8months but that's because of the red hue color fades
It’s super important you do what’s best for your hair health. My hair is short rn, so the routine I follow is very different from my long hair routine. I trim every couple of months to get rid of ssk and split ends. I usually trim a couple cm, so nothing major, but when my hair is long, I can go longer without trimming, and am a little more liberal cutting up to 1/4-1/2 inch. Bottom line is to do what works for your hair at any given moment. The only thing that stays consistent with my routine no matter what is focusing on protein-moisture balance.
Hey Viv, try boiling water and dropping a few springs of rosemary in it and cover, turn off the heat and let sit over night room temp, then put it on your hair after you wash your hair. Softens my hair and add shine.
I wish more stylists would ask clients about stuff first. Like I get stylists knowing best-but that’s only to a certain extent. Like, a stylist doesn’t know what allergies you might have or sensitivities… many don’t take the time to observe your hair’s porosity and use or avoid certain ingredients based on that. It’s why I don’t go to salons anymore. Last time was when I went to get locs: her website claimed she used natural products but when I arrived I found she used ecostyler gel. I should’ve stopped her and called her out but I didn’t. So I had to wash my hair and scalp just after a few days because of flakes and all of that gel turned into white flakes inside my locs. I don’t know why 90% of stylists want you to pay so much but don’t get your services worth that amount and give you attitude or condescension if you ask for personalized care or bring your own styling products.
I feel your pain, I just did a deep trim on mine because I got lazy and had my hair in buns constantly, the ends felt trashy despite deep conditioning. I realized it was all single strand knots, 3 inches gone and back to nighttime retwists. 😩
You reminded me to trim my hair. I cut off about 4 inches, but I know it will be healthier and style better. Mid line to retain more length or shorter to get better growth
I voted for red, but ultimately it is YOUR hair. At the end if the day do what makes YOU happy ❤. I actually love the darker red. Ppl have to be careful with the Olaplaex. Shea butter as a heat protectant 🤔 you learn something new 😊

Love the owner of this place so warm and friendly 😊
Red
I would want my hair to be parted before combing.
I thought you were not bleaching again

@@Ntyler01mil because the damaged ends broke when I brushed my hair, it didn't get any longer.
A stylist that does EXACTLY what you say? Don't lose her! ❤❤❤❤
I can't wait to see your hair.
Oprah is a dream stylist. She told you what would be best for your hair, but she left the decision up to you and respected it. I'm glad you went back got the second trim. The final results look great!

Yeah she knew it was too light of a trim long-term but she wanted to build trust and let Viv choose. Great stylist!
I'm glad she fixed it for you. It looks so much healthier. I'm getting ready for my 1st haircut in over 2 years. Like you, I'm feeling a little nervous. 😂
You can do it! Good luck 😁
So proud of you for being honest with Oprah throughout the process!! 👏👏 Your fan art background pic is beautiful too
Thank you so much!! 😊
@@VivHairTherapy My pleasure 😊

You been pretty, but you were GLOWWWWWY pretty in this video 😍
The hairstylist was so patient and gentle with your hair ❤
I really thought you were going to do the yellow line but it's your hair and you know what's right and wrong.
lol or I’m just a coward 😅

Love you, Viv!! Definitely thought it needed the 2nd trim!! Can't wait to continue to watch your recovery journey!!❤❤❤
Yay! Thank you! 😄
It's crazy how when unhealthy ends are cut off it makes your hair look longer and full. Beautiful Hair and Love the deep red at the ends
I knew your hair was incredible, but the fact that you had two stylists dyeing it at the same time is amazing!

Yellow would have been my choice for the cut.
I'm so happy that you chose to have a professional trim. That is the surest way back to your beautiful fullness. ❤❤❤
This is the beginning of a beautiful journey.
Red is best, yellow is ok for now if you’re not ready to dive straight into red. I definitely would say follow up in 4-6 weeks, 8 if you want to stretch it and take care of the remainder that needs to come off.
Off topic, but I'm tripped out to see there's actually another person named Oprah in the world lol
I love her! She's a great stylist

It came out kinda cute but yeah my ends were horrible
"...and try to stay relax through disappointment" kkkkkkkkk your comments are the best hahahhah
great video i love that she didnt have a problem trimming again!
You did the right thing by going back. Sometimes we have to just accept things as they are.
When the phone started ringing I thought was my mom's 😂😂😂
Red is the best spot to trim for the most optimal health of your hair. Sometimes we gotta let our damaged ends go. I too need such a trim.
You have amazing hair. You are beautiful. "It's fine, it's fine, " and you turn to look at the camera afterthe cut. It is fine, pretty hair as always. Really though, I have been watching your videos for years, you are cheery and bright. You always make me smile. Thank you.
She did a great job cutting your hair!!! Great job choosing healthy vs length. 😍😊☺️
i can't believe you've not been trimmed at a salon before! the shampoo massage is the best, it's the only reason i ever want to go
Thanks for this video Vivianna. I need a trim and rinse too (gray hair). I was even toying with the idea of relaxing my hair recently or clipping it myself. You might have just saved my hair with your bravery.
Whah Oprah have a salon now! I did see her on the morning news 👏 Looking good Viv, will defo recommend her to my sis x
Terribly courageous of you, but I'm sure it was the best decision to go back and start again with healty ends! Looked awesome at the end!
Your beautiful either way, and that stylist was awesome for not being scissor happy.
I like the color!
So glad it worked out for you! I was already terrified of this title. lol
The majority of us may have thought yellow but it is your hair and your life so if blue is right for you, it is right for us 😊
You’re so pretty 😊
Oooh it’s probably gonna be at the red line 😮
Oh man your stylist is so nice! I remember going in for a Trim and coming back with a bob cut 😢
It looks beautiful!!
Viv your hair looks amazing!
Oprah did great great work for you! twice hehe
That’s my song though!! JESUS YOU LOVE ME TOO MUCH OOOO!! Ok back to hair content
I voted for red, but ultimately it is YOUR hair. At the end if the day do what makes YOU happy ❤. I actually love the darker red. Ppl have to be careful with the Olaplaex. Shea butter as a heat protectant 🤔 you learn something new 😊
