Since vicious mockery is a saving throw spell rather than an attack roll spell, and thus the only d20 roll would be the saving throw, that means that the "nat 20" could only be referring to the Dwarf's saving throw. So my headcannon is that the bard has no idea how his spell works and thinks hes annihilating the Dwarf's self esteem, when in reality the Dwarf could not possibly be more unbothered.

And I'm also fairly certain it's the only edition Vicious Mockery is an attack roll rather than a save roll.
